E3 2007: PSP Redesign Unveiled
33% lighter; video output added July 11, 2007 - During Sony's E3 2007 conference, Sony Computer Entertainment President Kaz Hirai debuted the long-rumored redesign of the PlayStation Portable. At first glance it doesn't look very different, but Hirai insisted gamers would be able to tell the difference as soon as they laid hands on it. The new PSP will be 33% lighter. It also will have the ability to output high-quality video, to a TV, for instance. Users will be able to connect the PSP to a bigger monitor and share their photos and videos. The PSP redesign will be available in September in Piano Black and Ice Silver. A PSP Entertainment Pack will include the Ice Silver version, Daxter, the UMD Family Guy collection, a 1GB memory stick, and will put gamers back $199. Oh, and right after this announcement, Chewbacca walked on stage. Microsoft and Nintendo conferences: pwned. He was there to announce another new PSP pack for Star Wars: Battlefront. It includes the new Battlefront game, Renegade Squadron, and the Ice PSP with Darth Vader printed on the back. Source: http://psp.ign.com/articles/803/803439p1.html |

here's the video that explain a bit of detail of the new psp
personally what impress me is the video out connectivity. they've ditch out the Infra red and i bet the IR fanboys would definitely angry the UMD door structure.. seems a bit no-that strong as before.. because there's no steel frame inside the door. maybe will be an issue also. 199.00 USD = 687.177 MYR wohooo.... hope there'll be someone organizing bulk |

Still has the same old massively-uncomfortable-to-use-analog-stick-for-prolonged-periods problem. And I think Sony must've done something to the firmware as well..

dont be like ta-082. it rejects firmware below 2.0.
you havta patch it before it can be downgraded. which took quite a while to do so. the bad side-effect is when the patched mobo upgraded to official firmware 3.40 etc2. it'll brick. thats what i've heard of |

Even using normal letterbox tv? If not..that mean this new psp also not strech la kan? erm.... Official pictures from Sony. Can you spot the difference? It seems there's no sharp edges on PSP Slim, more like rounded edges.

QUOTE(DFlo @ Jul 13 2007, 10:23 AM) Time to get your 2nd PSP. Anyway, another poison for you. QUOTE(Joystick.com) ![]() We spent some alone time with the newly announced PSP redesign. At first glance, the system appears to be identical to the original system, but getting our hands on the system revealed that this is, in fact, a significant upgrade to the original. The most immediate thing we noticed was how light the system is: the original was in no ways heavy, but the new handheld is certainly much lighter, without making it too feathery. The glossy new finish of the redesigned PSP is very attractive, although we're afraid that it might attract fingerprints much more easily than the already susceptible original. Regardless, the shiny new sheen makes the system makes the original look dull in comparison. ![]() The new system is thinner, mostly due to the newly designed UMD door. Instead of having mechanical gears that force the system open, this system features a latch that must be opened by hand. The door feels much more secure than the original. According to John Koller, dropping the system won't result in the UMD shooting out, as it did in the previous system design. In addition to being slimmer, the new system also has redesigned buttons that feel much more responsive than the original. The D-Pad and face buttons all have a little bit more resistance to them, making the tactile sensation of using the system that much better. Unfortunately, Koller explained that the analog nub is not improved, although we found that a brand-new system works better than our system from launch. ![]() There are also a few more minor changes, such as the omission of the unused IR port. The Wi-Fi switch has been moved to the top of the system, where it's less likely to be hit by accident. The Memory Stick port was moved to the other side of the system, and is much more cramped. We're a little disappointed by that change, because it makes swapping the Stick out of the system a little bit more difficult than previously. The new headphone jack (pictured, above) not only moves further to the left of the system, but utilizes a new pin system that allows for the system's video-out. Component or composite cables can be used for TV out, but Koller explains that PSP game output will only be component-compatible. Movies (of both Memory Stick and UMD flavors) can use either component or composite cables. The video output of UMD video is especially impressive, due to the UMD's high video resolution. Many people have forgotten that UMD movies are encoded in DVD resolution: 480p. We're certain that this new feature will make UMD movies more viable than they have in the past. ![]() We're very excited about the new PSP redesign. Many were quick to write it off when it didn't appear to be significantly different from the original. However, it's clear that this is a significantly better system that not only looks better, but feels much better. We can't wait for the retail release later this year. QUOTE(Ninja @ Jul 13 2007, 10:58 AM) Haha.. But I'm seriously not impressed with the chopping of the back grip-thing.. Can't comment much since I haven't lay my hands on it yet Added on July 13, 2007, 12:28 pm QUOTE(mfa333 @ Jul 13 2007, 12:20 PM) Most probably separately? Sony's a money sucker, remember? Can't comment much since I haven't lay my hands on it yet Aisey, not enough poison eh... let me give you some more... QUOTE The 4.3-inch display remains the same, but the new unit will now include a video output that will let the PSP to output gameplay, movies, and photos to a TV display. The component cable we saw also had audio connectors to offer complete AV connectivity. The actual composite, s-video, component, and D-Terminal (Japan) cables will be sold separately, price TBD. The PSP we tested was able to play back a Spider-Man 2 movie clip at 640x480. The video on the big screen looked sharp with minimal loss. ![]() QUOTE Sony was able to slim down the battery size while maintaining the system's 5-hour battery life by decreasing the power draw of the unit. You'll be able to use old batteries from the original PSP to double playing time, but the standard battery cover won't be able to fit over it. Sony will offer a high-capacity power kit that will come with its own PSP cover to fit over the larger battery. ![]() QUOTE Sony has doubled the built-in memory from 32MB to 64MB, and the new PSP will also be able to speed up game load times by storing UMD data in temporary memory. The new PSP will also be able to recharge over the USB data connection. The rest of the pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Source: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6173974/i...e;picks;title;1 |

even the console will be sold at cheap price, the AV cable might cost a bomb...
