Hi, I am 28 years old and i have acne problem for almost 10 years. Recently my acne are coming back very actively..

Can people with severe active acne go for beauty facial? Will this help me to clean my face?

To be honest, i am a little hesitate because beauty shop's workers are not doctors...

But the problem is i have visited so many doctors and my face is still deteriorating.

Subsequent 2nd and 3rd visit, just walk in to buy the medicine to be eat and the skincare lotion.

Medicine around RM150 and skincard around RM10 per bottle. Price might be increased now as I didn't went there for 1 year plus.
Hope it helps.

you can go to Guardian pharmacy (or any pharmacy) and ask pharmacist there for "tretinoin" cream, there's a few brands available, such as Retin A, Retachyl ... etc. It comes in 2 strength, 0.05% and 0.025%, I personally use 0.05% (depends on skin sensitivity)

use everyday at night after shower, I personally mix it with moisturizer and apply on face.

some ppl will advice use 3 months then stop for a while and continue, but I personally use it everyday.

trust me, tretinoin is the most effective solution for acne that currently available, sometimes it does cause skin to peel but just endure it and it will fix the acne problem in no time.

of course the best is still get advise from dermatologist.

*remember pregnant women cannot use this cream.

i think what the doctor given is acutane, a type of "tretinoin", which is proven very effective on acne and oily skin.

however this oral tretinoin is being monitor strictly, so doctor will consider first b4 give to patients, especially women. (pregnant women cannot take this medicine)

another alternative is apply tretinoin cream, it is a bit less effective but also less harm and less side effect.

you can go to any pharmacy to buy low dosage tretinoin cream, around rm 40 - rm60

for me any brands also having the same ingredients, just pick the one you like (or cheapest)

but usually there are 2 strength, 0.05% and 0.025%, choose base on your condition and skin sensitivity.

i personally use 0.05%.

i see. i guess its roaccutane. Not going beauty facial is because you no longer have any breakouts or it worsen your face?

I am planning to have a try but i am a bit hesitate. Thats why i am asking for opinion first. haha

Tretinoin is a type of cream right? its not antibiotics like roaccutane? So it works on your crsytic ance? You only apply on your acne or the entire face? Since this cream is so strong. i guess its similar to OXY10.

I am currently using differin gel which has Adapalene of 0.1%.

tretinoin is a cream, it is very similar to adapalene but stronger (and more effective also).

I apply tretinoin on my entire face before I sleep. I believe it works on cystic acne (but I'm not medical expert)

I have tried both and I switch to tretinoin because personally I felt tretinoin works best for me.

Of course if adapalene also work for you then no need switch, because tretinoin and adapelene are both retinol.

the roaccutane you speaking is oral tretinoin and it's much stronger, that one must be prescribe by doctor and cannot get from pharmacy.

Had the same problem. Been fighting with acne for about 10 years.

I believe it's because of my genes & hormones bcus my sister had the same problem. But mine is so much worse. I dont even wear any makeups!

Skincare that Ive tried: Low range to high class product nothing seems to solve the problem completely (SKII, Himalaya, Kiehls, & u name it)

Treatments that Ive tried: Medication from Klinik Dr Noh, Facial & Medication from Klinik Dr Ko

The Facial & Medication from Klinik Dr Ko shows the best result although still not eradicate the whole problem

But after I stopped the Facial & Medication, the problem comes back

Honestly, I'm exhausted from all of the time and money spent to fight my acne problem. So far all are temporary solutions. Cause the problem is in the gene and hormones.

Now, I'm trying to get pregnant. Which is even worse. I can't use almost every acne fighting medication.

Not looking for a solution. Just sharing my story. Just so exhausted.

Had a tough bout with Acne about 10years ago, fully recovered however the old scars are still there though fading as years go by. I still do get the random 1 off acne that will pop out after heavy rounds of chocolate/nuts but 1 acne is managable.

When i was suffering with cystic acne, visited a dermatologist in Klang. Old guy back then not sure if he is still practicing. Was prescribed some antibiotics to control the breakouts, a tretinoin like cream to be applied at night and acne-aid soap to be used for washing. The breakouts stopped within 3 months of the treatment.

Roccutane/Accutane is an isotretinoin.
Tretinoin is a retinoid.

Those are 2 completely different thing that works differently.

Don't freely suggest people to use those without properly explaining them & their usage. The side effects can be really nasty to the point you'd wish you have acne instead.

There are some comments about acutane (tretinoin).
Take note this is prescription medicine.

And if you are female must take it very seriously.

This medicine had side effects of getting abnormal baby.

The effect may persist after stopping for 1yrs or so.

I took this medication but I am a male. Less side effect. The results is good. Initially it become worst then getting better.

Yea, it's not a good idea to wash too frequently unless you're using a moisturizing wash.

Your skin over produced oil to protect itself when it's dry. It's our body self-defense mechanism. So if you further strip down the oil that your skin, it'll produce more oil. Focus on moisturizing your skin, that's more important. Eventually your skin sebum production will normalize when it's not so dry. But of course don't expect, overnight results la.

Everyone's skin is different, that's why a lot of skin related question don't have a straight forward answer. What works for others, may not work for you & vice versa. Just understand your skin & its underlying problem first. Then be patience & disciplined on your road to recovery. A lot of people want instant results. Depending on the problem, give it roughly a month before you judge whether the solution worked or not.

Our cells need time to heal & grow too. Takkan telan meds today, sapu today or laser today, tomorrow terus can recover into flawless skin? As long as the underlying problem isn't treated, it'll keep on recurring. Plus, looking at the amount of wrong info circulating around here, really face palm doh.gif

i think the root causes of my acne recurring is due to the one doc 4 steps laser treatment i went in the past few months. (i am not sure but i am suspecting).

my acne is quite terrible now, its super swollen with a few heads on the acne.. you can imagine that creepy....

Trying to make thing simple, just cleanser, toner and moisturiser, no more acne cream. because i think acne cream will dry down the skin, causing bacteria to clog.

I really hope things will be okay.. i feel pressure and depress seeing my acnes coming back......all the best with everyone facing the same issue as me... i know its not easy.

I used accutsne 10 years ago and it cleared my skin.

But acne still come back occasionally.. until I found the trigger one day. It was the condensed milk in coffee that I drink. Every time I drink coffee, acne will come out within hours. As long as I don’t eat or drink the trigger, I don’t get acne.

I think it’s not the product or pill that really matters. Find the trigger. If you have it everyday, there must be something in your daily life that cause it, food or lifestyle. And apparently dairy product is a common trigger. Try stop taking any dairy product for 2 weeks and see if acne stop popping. Mine definitely.

I underwent 4 times of their 4 steps laser treatment at one doc medical. It's basically a treatment to lessen your oil production and look more elastic. The first treatment I feel OK, but starting from second and so on, my face got deteriorated. However, I didn't realise until the 4th treatment, the beautician will normally advise us to do their 4 steps laser treatment first before doing the pico laser which is for scaring purpose. I think it's only suitable for people with smooth or less severe acnes. People like me who has cystic acne before, better don't try.. Will regret. I signed for their 5k package but didn't use now.

If you've had problems for very long, a natural solution like this might help. It's not so harsh on the skin so it if doesn't work at least it won't make things worse.

But the best is to see a dermatologist to really understand what is the problem. Especially if your skin has an allergy to chemicals then trying new products or expensive ones won't work if those products have that chemical.

I had some acne issues earlier this year as well. Didn't go for doctor option this time. So, I tried this facial treatment brand called HerbaLine at Desa Hartamas (They have other branches as well). No commitment and quite affordable. After 2-3 treatments with them, my acne went off. I bought some of their facial wash/skincare products as well.

Now skin is clean and clear!

My skin is almost clear now but I used to have eruptions all my life. Usually diet & lifestyle (stress free) are helpful. Lasers and peels were not good except those procedures could help with acne scars.

Acne treatment is not a one size fits all treatment. You have to know what exactly triggers it and what are the best steps and best ingredients to counter it. What better way than to go to licensed dermatologists. I promise it will be worth it!

Oh, Isotretinoin capsules. A long long time ago, I suffered from EXTREMELY SEVERE acne for 13 years. Yeah, Accutane is pretty strong stuff.

Do take note that for some people (me included), the acne will slowly come back after stopping treatment.

This medication works by shrinking the oil gland hence reducing oil production. Stop the medication and the oil production will slowly return to normal and acne may come back.

My face is very oily, so 4 months after completed the treatment, the oil production gets to normal, and slowly acne is coming back. I foresee that if I ignore it for a full year, my face will get as it used to be, so I continued taking Accutane on and off just enough to keep the acne at bay. But this is not healthy for the kidney too.

Few years after that, I just googled this medical article about Zinc deficiency & acne. So I tried taking Zinc supplement just trying my luck. To my amazement, 3 months after that, acne is cleared and they never come back. Have a lesser oily face to boot. So till today, I'll just take zinc pill as my daily supplement.

In all honesty, I don't think that zinc alone could have cleared the severe acne when it was at its peak. I still need Accutane to fix that first but after the severity has decreased to a manageable level, then Zinc can keep the acne from coming back. Or maybe I am just zinc-deficient I don't know, never really got it checked.

TLDR: Accutane can probably clear up most cases of very severe acne problem that is beyond saving. But should your acne come back after the treatment, you'll have to find the underlying reason as to why you have acne in the first place & get that fix if you want the acne to permanently go away.

Well, I have big pores all over my nose. Taking Accutane doesn't seem to make the pores visibly smaller. But the oil production on the face still gets drastically lesser.

But, even if Accutane can make pores smaller, I think it'll just grow back to normal slowly after stopping from the treatment anyway cool2.gif

Hello, is anyone experiencing acnes specifically on chin/jaw only? Don't really seem to be able to figure out the cause. Is it because the chin/jaw is too oily?
