Hi, just brought a used Hyundai Starex 2010. The AC is extreme cold. Turn the knob to red zone. Still very cold. What's the possible problem? From my observation, the compressor like never cut off. I have been searching around on Internet, no solution found. Possible is the knob problem or ac thermostat? anyone out there can help?

the knob should be linked to a board.
might be the control board for the AC gone bad.

better take to svc centre and check

Ha? Compressor never cut off then will easy spoil? My understanding is usually AC cycle off when cold enough and cycle on again when less cold, just like myvi or proton saga. Correct me if I am wrong. I still see heater pipe there. I assume no deleted.

Deletion does not necessary mean physical deletion, normally there is a valve / sensor that control the opening of the heated water to "warm up" our A/C. I supposed the prev owner had unplug the power connection of that valve / sensor.

Check the high pressure and low pressure switch first.
Then check whether heater function is working or not.
Heater core could be looped to 'delete' its function.

Newer HVAC system mostly require both heater and AC to control the climate.

Or better yet just bring it to the nearest AC shop.

After I remove the battery and tray, found 2 open pipes hidden underneath which is not connected to else where. The heater is by passed by previous owner. cool2.gif

I am thinking to connect back those 2 pipes. Just worry will causing any leaking in some where. huh.gif

yes, sorry for short term "delete"

afaik, compressor that doesnt cut last longer. its just they use hot water to warm ur aircond, which tend to leak etc.

I assume compressor running constantly is more last as long as we do maintenance once a year maybe. The maintenance I meant here is open the AC system, flush out the old oil and clean the expansion valve. Fuel consumption wise cannot complaint.

After much consideration, I think I will not put back the heater line. Just let the AC constantly ON. In a hot afternoon, inside car feel like in Genting Highland. thumbup.gif

What about cold days or rainy nights? Will it be too cold since the aircon compressor runs all the time and the heater has been deleted?

This car is having pros and cons.

Pros I can observe are:
1) Spacious after last row of seat removed.
2) Air con super cold
3) Small steering turn

Cons are:
1) The car is heavy to move
2) Reverse camera not so helpful, is mouthed on top of rear door
3) Engine not so powerful, slow pick up.
4) Coolant temperature running at 94c to 95c
5) Oil cooler leaking
6) Power steering bush loosen, causing steering pull to left and sometime pull to right.
7) Fuel consumption around 10L / 100KM
8) Sliding door is heavy to open and close
