Hi guys,

I got a call and offered me Astro Ultra box to replace my current pvr. With the new ultra box, the storage will be on cloud.
Currently am using Maxis Fiber Home 30Mbps. Not sure if this is sufficient. I was told that it works similar to Nexflix.

Based on my understanding, there are pro and con as listed below.

Pro:
- able to view some channels (at the moments) in UHD such as sports.
- storage will be on cloud, which means you can watch your recorded program anywhere (on the go) on device such as phone and tablet.
- better UI and user experience

Con:
- as storage will be on cloud, recording and viewing requires internet connection, which means if internet is not stable, it will impact recording and viewing.
- contract 2 years

Just wondering should i change to ultra box. Appreciate your opinion on this. icon_question.gif

Anyone here participated in the beta program, maybe can share your experience and thoughts on this.

Thanks in advance.

Have 4K TV or not?
If not, better stick to current PVR.

Free installation and device. If not mistaken, your package has to be min RM100 or RM150. Contract 2 years.

still using astro dish. The internet is required when recording or view your recorded program, as the content is stored on cloud (not in the external hard disk inside pvr decoder).

The package is inclusive of the broadband internet charge or the internet is a separate charge ?

Astro subscription package only. Not sure if your astro is bundled with maxis, do they consider that as your total subscription.

Just to clarify that, you are entitled for the upgrade to ultra box, with free installation and device (ultra box), provided your astro subscription fees is above RM100 or RM150 (can't remember). There is no additional charges for this replacement / upgrade program.

Well I have just upgraded to Ultra today.
The decoder is fast and responsive which I really hate with the old PVR decoder due to the slowness and lagging.

Yea, agree with you that the current PVR really laggy...that's one of the reason i am considering giving this ultra box a try...

How's the UHD channels?

how's the recording speed and viewing from cloud? You may have not tried at this moment. Please do share with us here once you managed to try out ya. thumbsup.gif

Btw. what's your home internet speed? maxis?

if course that's what they would say to upsell. you need 15 to 25Mbps for 4k streaming with good quality. i'm sure would use the internet for other activities while watching the 4k content.

unless astro's coding with a crappy low bitrate like their full HD contents, then it might just be enough

Yea, agree on the upsell strategy. That's why hope someone here already using ultra box to share with us the experience vs the internet speed.
