I stopped buying lenovo after finding out they don't have their own service centre in Malaysia - it's via 3rd party store in Plaza Berjaya.

I had problems with HDD, and sent it there. They formatted and told me not to update Windows 10. Beat that.

Now, going to give my lenovo to some kid, I just bought an Illegear

I have seen resellers sell Lenovo laptops without windows - comes with FreeDOS or other linus iterations

but I have never seen new Thinkpads being sold by unofficial lenovo shops or online, and these always come with Windows.
*
got, but very low end models.
Used to be you can get E145/E135 AMD Brazos models that cost around RM1.5k with windows.
without windwos cost like Rm1k only....but those things will be damn slow in today's usage

either M$ really clamping down on pirated OS or manufacturer just wanna make that buck

I disagree (but just my opinion). Thinkpad laptops last long, with only the battery that may need replacing if you want longer hours

Other than that, plenty of people on /r/thinkpads are rocking older laptops including the X220, X230, T4xx series, etc.

I was on the used X1 Carbon 1st gen for a few years, before I made enough money to buy a new X1 Carbon 6th gen. The 1st gen helped me make so much money, I gave it to my sister because it is a good, sleek-looking laptop. Love her, love the laptop.

I wish I could say the same about my T430....
my little brother now practically cane skip gym because of it laugh.gif

Bro, run the keyboard tests when you COD ya. You may or may not like it. Thinkpad changed their keyboards a few times across the generations, and some models are released with two different keyboard manufacturers, one of which is better than the other. I don't know, because I was/am not in the market for 3rd gen

Anybody knows where to buy oem replacement battery (external) for t470?
Around Klang valley.
*
got seller in /k garage sales, but i wouldnt recommend.
original battery only Rm300+
whereas OEM battery cost for thinkpad will be 200 give or take also.
but quality vastly different.

ori battery can last you 3-4 years. while OEm battery can die in 6 months

you also have to worry about firmware upgrades negating the ability to use OEM batteries

Thanks for the advise. Will opt for original batteries.
Did a search on garage sales but all are selling laptops instead of batteries.

Any shops recommended?
*
if you based in Shah Alam, I have my guy la.
but otherwise, i'd say walk into any Lenovo concept stores (there's one in PJ digital mall, 1-2 in lowyat)

doesn't matter.
at the end of the day, it's price/performance.

of course, when going premium like a Surface or Carbon X1, you'd be stupid to go for AMD option la,
but low end options like Intel i3 at RM1700 or R3 at the same price, you'd be hard pressed to get the i3 with CPU just as slow, but no better iGPU

Guys, I am going to need a dock for my X1C6, dont even need an eGPU, just the dock will do.

What do we have in the market? The one from Lenovo official is RM1k. Any similar docs for less RM?
*
original dock can source 2nd hand.
typically they're the same for multiple generations.
but latest *80 series (along with X1C) changed to type C interface, rather than pins on bottom of laptop.
so you might have a bit of trouble.

but i'd just go with original docking....
there are no OEM docks for THInkpads afaik, else, just use a 200-300 bucks TypeC output.

Guys. Do you guys know where to send ThinkPad for repair? My ThinkPad screen was broken and roughly how much it would cost? I bought it last year July.
*
depends on what screen.
if normal screen. 14 or 15" can repair at any shop at less than RM200 per panel.
If touchscreen, but normal size 14" 15" can ask first....maybe 500 per panel.

If X series 12.5"...........u deaded.....
If Slim 13" or 14 panel, can ask normal shop also at RM300++ per panel.

If sked, can ask Lenobo. call hotline only for onsite technician
but either way, replacing your screen shouldnt affect your motherboard warranty.
