guys, newbiw question, but at what speed is a helmet consider noisy? I mean like for a full face helmet, at what speed do you really notice there's wind noise?
I've just got a B full license, looking to buy a 2nd hand bike
Only got open face helmet for the exam and riding speed in the school is less than 40km.. Can't really hear any significant wind noise comparing to a riding a bicycle cuz the speed is so slow

Depends on the range of that helmet

My case.  I have one cheaper helmet, hjc is17.  Even at 100kmh it's not quiet ( I won't say it's noisy).  Wind noise is there.

And I have another more expensive helmet  which is consider top of the line from hjc, rpha70.  It's consider quiet even at 130kmh.  So when I'm doing the usually speed I normally do at around 100kmh 110kmh.  It's quiet.  Minimal wind noise.
*
long term slight wind noise will still damage hearing right? Like your HJC IS17, slight wind noise, but over a long period will it still damage hearing?
and how often do you guys here wear earplugs?

It depends on how loud the wind noise.
Faster you go the louder it gets

Good thing is that I hardly ride at high speed.

On the highway 120kmh is good enough.

I tried wearing ear plugs , but stopped .  The pressure build up in my ears is not comfy .  And it's too quiet in which I don't really like, felt dangerous.
*
I'm thinking of maybe wearing earphones when I ride.
since it's always connected to bluetooth, can listen to songs/navigation.. also quite sound proof so kinda works the same as an earplug i guess? Not say fully block everything out but then like you said, if too quiet, it seems very weird

Somehow you need to be able to hear your surrounding.

Last month as I shared I was almost got rammed from behind by a car at junction.  Good thing was that I heard his tyres screech and I moved forward.

got ppl do that with mibuds. my worry if something hit the side of the helmet, would it crush the earphones or earbuds into your ear?
*
something to experiment on for this idea I guess..
I don't think the earphones will crush earphones unless it's a really tight fit and the impact is very strong.
Otherwise might just work.. hmm.gif

Maybe the plugs you use is too big hence the high pressure build up..

Anyways i would always suggest riding with an earplug. 92db exposure for 30 minutes is all it takes to get hearing loss. And 92db is not too far fatched to be exposed to while riding.

NB: higher dBs would take far less time to get hearing damage.
Earphones dont block noise at all - even worse with active noise cancellation since it blasts the same noise that is at 180 degree phase. Which means your ears get exposed to the loud noise even more. If you want to hear songs and navigation a basic Cardo Spirit (<RM400) + earplugs would be the way to go.
*
Does the Cardo Spirit able to join in into other Cardo units?
Also, with earplugs in, won't it block off the sound coming from the speakers of the Cardo Spirit?
Sorry might be newbie question but 0 experience on this so yeah

earphones if earbuds type, wont do anything for noise....

if IEM type (aka ear dildos), with the correct size tip, can help reduce a little... but it really isnt much. earplugs are still the best solution to outside noise.

if ur uncomfortable using earplugs there are many different types out there, even mouldable ones. i find foam earplugs to be the most comfortable as it will expand to ur specific ear canal.

if u feel weird about the silence, just get used to it n raise ur awareness of ur surroundings. after awhile u probably wont even realize ur wearing it.
*
yeah, earphones as in earbuds.. correction on my part.
Samsung buds, they literally block out noise too when just placed in the ear without playing any audio.
but thanks for the tip.. Will lock into those earplugs that you've mentioned

Its ok. I also just started using the spirit less than 2 weeks ago. The spirit will allow you to connect to other cardo units via bluetooth. But the range will be around 400m only with clear line of sight. I use it to talk with my wife (she's riding as pillion).

You can still hear sounds coming from the speakers. The speakers are directly resting on your ears under the helmet foam. You will not get any bass from the speakers but its good enough to hear voices and music.

The earplugs really remove the wind noises which are generally high frequency range. But all other noises are still audiable albeit slightly lower than what we are used to. If you do plan on getting something like a Cardo, i would really recommend getting used to riding with the earplugs first and getting used to the lower sounding noises you get. It should take only a couple of rides to get used to. After that you can add the cardo/music. This way you will not immediately feel like you've lost spatial noise.
*
yeah alrighty.. For sure will be taking some time to get used to riding without any distraction first (music, earplugs, etc)
gonna be aware of surrounding while riding until I'm comfortable enough to be riding with those in my ears.
What do you guys think of KYT TT Course helmet? Anybody here have tried it? Quiet enough? Considering a entry level helmet and low speed riding (max speed 120km/h maybe?)
Or any good entry level helmet to recommend? Max budget RM 650 - 700

I second the recommendation to try the rpha 70 with the normal fiberglass/carbon shell. I use one myself. Decent aerodynamically, very quiet, fairly lightweight. The built in sun-visor is great since you dont have to worry about bringing a second visor if you are out all day. The full carbon version is only slightly lighter and only in black so to me, it wasnt worth the price premium and i like a brighter helmet.
Just to note if you are buying HJC helmets. HJC and the dealers are sitting on quite a lot of old stock, so do check the manufacture dates. If you dont mind older stock, you can get them at a serious discount. I paid 1500 for mine.

Also due to the old stock, the "carbon" look trim on the helmet inner liners may start to peel. I had my helmet straps covers and cheek liners replaced under warranty by HJC malaysia so all good. its mostly aesthetic issue so no big deal for me.
If you can wait, maybe wait for the new 22-06 helmets that are just coming on to market. You might even get the older 22-05 helmets for cheap.

Otherwise if you are stitting on a 2000 budget, you can also explore the Scorpion lineups. Also excellent helmets around the same price range as the RPHA range. There may still be some older stock of carbon EXO 1400s left in stock, assuming they have the size.

technically there's no issue with buying an old helmet right? Is there a recommend shelf life? or is it similar to a tyre that you wouldn't wanna buy when its been manufactured and stored for a long time?

Hello guys, I'm planning to get CB250R around end of year and am looking at HJC helmet. Should I go for IS17/C70/I70 (same shell just old and new version) or save my wallet with CS15?
*
Hey guys, same question to this one..
I'm gonna go buy my first fullface helmet once my balaclava arrive from shopee.. cuz usually shops need you to wear one before allow testing
Anyway, currently im looking at 2 brands for first fullface helmet

HJC CS15 (RM450++) - seems like more suitable for round head?
KYT TT Course (RM450++) - apparently more spectacles friendly, unsure about the head shape. All they mention is just 'Asian Fit'

Also, I think TT Course uses micrometric buckle/strap, but I see shops sell Double D rings as well? Kinda confused on this
As for HJC I think it is Double D rings but its like a 5-6 year old design already. Not sure how old are the existing stocks in the market. I see some shops are running very low on stocks and only available for the bigger sizes ( L / XL)

how effective are the vents actually? and what's the speed needed for it to be effective?
My Zeus helmet also have vents but i feel like their fake :/

both at a similar price range, but wondering have any of you guys tried these helmets before?
I have a round head shape, even wanna buy specs can be quite a hassle for me due to my wide head
Currently using a Zeus helmet, forgot the model, but its in XL size (used for riding lesson and test - currently riding nearby while familiarizing with my bike - z250)

I wear glasses n I just use a buff instead of a balaclava...i tend to lick my lips alot so balaclava x best coz itll get wet hahahah

DD ring may be the safest out there but that doesnt make the micrometric strap unsafe...its still a pretty good system...alot of ppl tend to treat non DD like its a disease simply coz DD is rated as safest. If micrometric unsafe doubt itll pass ece testing.

Anyway..there is a way to convert DD to clip style easily...

https://shopee.com.my/product/1898292/18510...69-1666923904.9

Claims to surpass snell standards...i ordered one from ebay couple of years back but i cancelled it coz accidentally ordered wrong color n never got around to re ordering...now got this on shoppee i think im gonna reorder after i get my helmet liner reupholstered.

a buff is like a skull cap right? just covering the hair until the forehead? maybe I could have gotten one of that together with my parcel sad.gif
oh well.. i need time to get used to everything..
the clip adapter actually looks ... scary :/
