but nowaday i dono, mebe still can lepas wit agent..

That would be the illegal route. The agent must have done some funny business.

Now, customs will tahan your helmet if it doesn't have a SIRIM mark & JPJ approval.

Now, JPJ require all newly sold helmets in the market to be SIRIM marked. Even DOT approved helmets are not accepted now.

So, buying online from overseas right now will most likely get your helmet confiscated at the end (unless the manufacturer has obtained the SIRIM mark).

Even if you go travel overseas, buy a helmet & bring it back to Malaysia as carry on luggage; most likely it will be confiscated when you arrive.

It will be upon the discretion of the Customs officers to allow it to be brought in.

How sirim test and rate the helmets?

I doubt there testing facilities and their method of testing is better than ece, TUV, snell, etc

This is bullshit.
*
They should be tested according to the MS 1, MS 1-1, & UN ECE R22 standards, for helmets; MS 1-2, MS 1065 & UN ECE R22 for the visors. The helmets need to pass the impact, penetration & retention test (I can't remember the rest of the testing regime).

If SIRIM are accredited to conduct the test & certification, I don't see why they would be less qualified than other Certification Bodies available.

I got in touch with Excel Bikers to ask about their HJCs the other day and was told that their HJCs are imported and do not have SIRIM cert but are JPJ approved.

With that in mind are they still legal?
*
If that is the case they must have done the JPJ's CTA (component type approval) by an approved Certification Body.

I've checked back again the rules that was recently enforced, the main requirements for the JPJ CTA are either MS 1 or UN ECE R22 by an accredited Certification Body.

For bringing in helmets from overseas for personal use, either by online purchase or by flight carry on luggage, if the helmets does not have the JPJ approval yet, the helmet must have a valid UN ECE R22 certification. However, upon entry you will still need to apply for JPJ approval.

If it's from Thailand all they have to do is wear it and ride across border, doubt it will be checked.
Okay so based on what I found here, your helmet will be confiscated by kastam on arrival. According to the guideline provided by JPJ, You need to send an email containing pictures of the ECE tag within the helmet to JPJ to obtain the approval, but how do you even do that when the item is still confiscated by kastam? Doesn't make much sense.
*
This is the awkward part, when the helmets arrived, it will be "confiscated" by Customs. That is when you will receive the Notis Penahanan Kastam.

The best way & only possible way to get the pictures is to request it from the seller before shipping out your helmet. Especially when buying online.

by providing all the required documents (via online system), JPJ will then grant the approval & later present it to Customs for the item to be released.

Any idea if SIRIM also perform tests on visor?
*
Yes, they do. They can test the helmet visors in accordance to the MS 1-2, MS 1065 & UN ECE R22 standards.

I'm planning to get my own helmet for go karting sessions. Can recommend any full face helmets with chin guards?

Affordable one would do for now. Budget less than RM300
