tats why u all dont understand our statement... if u r going for FULL HD, u need to get 40" and above. If not, then can go for any screen size. Hope u all understand.

What Lotus is saying is, no point downloading 1080p blueray rip movie online to watch on a tv screen 40'' or smaller as it will be the same quality as a 720p .....

If your using above 40'' ( i am using 42'' native 1080p resolution ), then 1080p sources would make some difference in picture quality.

I watched in the shop a 1080p movie play on a 52'' Sony Bravia LCD HDTV. I was very impressed wub.gif

Added on June 13, 2008, 12:52 pmHow do i know whether my PS3 is outputting True HD ?

my setup is configured as the following

PS3 to Yamaha RX-V663 AV Receiver via HDMI.

Av Receiver connected to HDTV via HDMI.

On the receiver it says PCM. Does that mean the true HD sound is working or isn't it ? Any ideas ?

Jonc does that mean i get the full benefit of true hd and nothing to worry about biggrin.gif ?

My receiver also supports decoding of true hd if needed.

In the PS3 audio settings i just ticked everything available since my receiver and PS3 both support everything.

Is this incorrect ? Should i untick some stuff biggrin.gif ???

bluelotus - i tried PS3 wireless streaming from upstairs router to downstairs where my PS3 is. For 1080p content it lags a lot. But when use homeplug it doesn't anymore. I am however now using popcorn to stream media because it supports MKV, H264 and XVID :]

Hang on.

So your saying the PS3 cannot pass through true hd to my receiver to decode ? So if i select passthrough for audio to receiver, then i only get the core audio only ?

If i setup the PS3 to not passthrough, but instead decode itself, then connect to receiver, which is then connected to HDTV, would that work ?

How then should i setup my PS3 in that case biggrin.gif ?

It's a media streamer hardware. It's more flexible than PS3 in that regard which is why i got it. Pretty soon there will be Ogm support nod.gif when the firmware update comes.

I use it to watch movies and anime i download online so far it plays 85% + of the stuff i download.

Nope you will only get core dolby digital and dts through optical not TrueHD / DTS-MA. Irregardless how you setup you will never get get the full HD / Lossless potential as long as you use optical. You must use HDMI connection.

As i said earlier, PS3 do not bitstream the lossless audio to amp for decoding but will decode it internally and output as 5.1 / 6.1 / 7.1 PCM, hence you'll get the PCM displayed in you amp. Mind you, PCM is a heck lot better than the normal dolby digital / dts.  wink.gif

Thx. Now i feel less worried laugh.gif

BlueLotus - Popcorn does subtitle support. So far it hasn't let me down. I thinkt the subtitle support meets 90% of my needs.

Some anime video it will go beyond the edge if the sub is too long. Sometimes when got some foreign characters it won't show properly. But mostly the experience is good so i can forgive some small problem which will eventually be fixed in firmware updates thumbup.gif
