Quick question. have some left overs old school ICE amps (RF x 2) and speakers.
Would like to give the car stereo a refresh.
Would these sub 1k android players be able to match the sound of traditional cd player brands like sony kenwood etc
Would be mostly using spotify/YTmusic and waze/google maps.
So i will need 2 amp output..
I sincerely doubt if there is a true DSP in these price range..more of just equaliser.

Even china pioneer now also come out same design with the topway ts10 lol. If u use mostly spotify, u wont differentiate much because limited by the sound quality of spotify also. Amp and speaker change edi can give big difference liao compare to car built in.

Hi guys

I’m planning to upgrade the HU on my 10-year Honda city (2008-2013 model), but I’m a total newbie when comes to ICE.

I just want a good quality HU with reverse/360 camera and can support Apple CarPlay. There are so many Android HUs out there that I don’t know which are the better ones. So, I think I’d just go for more well-known brand like kenwood or pioneer. Any brand/model that you can recommend?

Thanks

Recently got the TS10 android head unit with sim slot.

But it couldn't properly detect the right sim or network carrier. Inserted a digi sim and the system displayed it as either maxis or celcom or umobile or unifi or digi. Yet in all occasion, it does not have proper network connection.

Kinda giving up on it now. Probably will just get the cheap phone as semi-permanent hotspot for car internet.

Anybody has issues with the head unit looks kinda washed out? I can't even see the road properly with Google Maps. I wonder if it's the screen, or because these Chinese HU are not properly scaling (screens are 1024*600, but the apps are 480p upscaled, and the 16:9 internal ratio does not fit the screen weird ratio)

Havent used GMaps on HU, I think I only tried it once when got it for first time, so cant really compare. Been using waze, and its all fine.

Let me check it out tomorrow. Any pictures, to compare with?

Using Maps directly from within the HU

Using Android Auto with Headunit Reloaded at 480p scaling

Both are unable to properly show the roads, unless they are highway which are marked in yellow. I wonder if I can change the contrast of the HU, but I can't find any settings for that

Looks sharp. What model are you using? I feel I might need to go into the factory setting for mine

EDIT:

Went into factory settings and found out that brightness (actually white level) was +50. Setting it to 0 fixed the issue. I presume the installer feels that the screen looks murky on it's default setting and tried to compensate for that, but leading to the washed out look

Good that you had solved, i was about to suggest to clear the data and cache at setting->app->maps

Mine is a very old model, 5 yrs ago and only has 2GB Ram, if one is getting a newer one, better to go with 4GBRam or above.

Mine is called Convex, but similar to any other Chine OEM model but it has 4 video out so works well with my 360 cam recording.

Thanks. i am interested because it seems yours are using the correct resolution, while mine looks like it's not the correct reso for this 1024x600 screen (you can see the text are not smooth and jagged, tell tale sign of bad scaling). Since I am mostly relying on Android Auto via Headunit Reloaded, i don't actually mind the low RAM count, as bulk of the processing happens on my phone, and the HU is just the output

I just went old school today, bought a Pioneer 2-din with Android Auto/ Apple Carplay.
It cost around RM2k with installation. What I know is the price for Android unit 6+128 also around RM1.5k, so I decided to go with a reputable one, at least I know that these old schools are more expert in audio quality than those coming from mainland.

Maybe I am really old school, but happy with the quality so far..

Pioneer is a good model, you cant go wrong with it! biggrin.gif

BTW it should come with 3 yr warranty, right? Which model and size did you install? May I know what is the number of video out?

I am noob when it comes to ICE.
I got Pioneer AVH-ZL5150BT 7inch for Toyota 200mm size, yes 3 yrs warranty
Not sure about the number of video out.

The sound quality is great even with original speakers

If you are not looking for something to install those apps or watching movies in your car, than yeah, the Pioneer that you bought is a great head unit. If I had the budget I'd rather go for it too, especially since it has sharp pictures (compared to the blurry smear mine currently has).

So on Eonon head units, the USB labeled carplay/Android Auto does not support USB hub, only the other one does. Took me hours to figure out why I can't split my USB which I did successfully with an older head unit.

Since the Eonon came with a free DVR camera, the shop installer plugged it into the non car play USB connection, and it was only after reading the documentation again that I realised I need to use that USB instead
