The journey to Singapore Asus OverClocking Championship 2007 (SAOC) started from 6/7/2007. We gathered in reggie's house and started our journey to Singapore at around 7pm. Me, and irenic took turns to drive with my more than 10 years old car. We reached the Summer View Hotel, Singapore at around 1am and had our yamcha session in a mamak just around the corner. Just before we started, we saw Shamino, Xu Gang and wife (Team Speedtime, China) walking towards us. So, as you guess corrently, we had supper together with two world class overclockers since Day 1.

Cut the crap, straight to Day 1 of the competition. We reached Funan Digital Mall around 10am and immediately register and started setting up our rig. There were 2 teams from K.O.C that is K.O.C 1 with irenic and lolhalol and K.O.C with coolice, sup3rfly and Sanko. Anyway let's start with hot chicks 1st. But only one pic as i'm kinda a shy guy.

Day 1 Competition was totally different from Day 2. Teams were given a short 4 hours to complete 5 benchmarks and summiting it within the given time frame. Once summitted, the result will be final, no changes allowed. TEAM K.O.C was devided into 2 teams in Day 1 Competition. Therefore, none of us has much time to play with reggie's camera. So not much picture taken.

For the record, TEAM K.O.C 2 had changed their HDD for 2 times because of OS Corruption and changed a pair of RAM. On the other hand, TEAM K.O.C 1 had a perfect rig and still had some time for some vga vmod.

For Day 1, TEAM K.O.C 1 performed much better than TEAM K.O.C 2. But they lost the time. On the last 10 seconds final finishing countdown, TEAM K.O.C 1 PCMARK05 was still running the last test. All of the TEAM K.O.C member gathered and watched whether the PCMARK05 could finish on time or not. Too bad, it didn't fnish on time but the scoring for their PCMark05 was actually 5 marks. Therefore TEAM K.O.C 1 didn't manage to summit PCMark05 score and their final overall score was 28. Below was the competition spec for Day 1.

CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Mobo: ASUS P5K3 Deluxe
VGA : ASUS 8800GTS 320MB
Memory : 1GB DDR3 Kingston Hyper-X 1375Mhz x 2

After the Day 1 Competition, each country were given all the hardwares of Day 2 Competition for testing and insulation purposes. As Day 2 Competition was actually battle against nations on Dry Ice Cooling. There were 8 countries all together.

At first irenic ask us to straight away to go back to Malaysia with all the hardwares. He said 'Kita lari lah, balik tukar nickname lepak kat forum. Tak de orang tahu.' But after we beat him out, then only he stop thinking running away with the hardwares.

CPU : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700
Mobo : ASUS Blitz Extreme
VGA : ASUS 8800GTS 320MB
Memory : 1GB DDR3 Kingston Hyper-X 1375Mhz Memory

As usual, we gathered in the lobby in the morning and Visionary assisted us to get a cab to Funan Digital Mall for the Day 2 Competition. We were quite late because irenic couldn't wake up because of the VMOD on the VGA he did. He spent few hours to get it done.

Once we reached Funan, TEAM Singapore and TEAM Indonesia were the earliest setting up everything while irenic still moaning while walking. Our setup for the Day 2 setup was Dry Ice CPU Cooling with Shamino's Pot and Water Chilling on GPU. Thanks to Xu Gang who borrow us his Water Chilling for GPU from Day 1 Competition.

Day 2 Competition was different. Both TEAM K.O.C 1 and K.O.C 2 combined and TEAM Malaysia. Therefore, i had some time to play with the camera. And the day was special cause we had a forumer came to cheer for us. kvmcom was with us cheering us for better results. Thanks for the support. Really appreaciate it.

The scoring system for Day 2 Competition was tougher than Day 1. Each Country/Team was given 25 minutes to run a benchmark and the highest score attained will be summited. Points will be allocated accordingly that is, First = 5pts, Second = 3pts and Third = 2pts. From the start, TEAM K.O.C didn't put much faith of winning any points because seriously TEAM Singapore, China, Indonesia, Australia and Taiwan would definately tops the chart. We just tried to put out a fight for Super PI 4M Challenge as it was our team strongest benchmark among all benches.

Because most of the Team member didn't believe on irenic VMOD skill, therefore we asked Xu Gang to check the VMOD for us

irenic looking at Xu Gang as if his skill is on par with World Class OverClockers, too bad that wasn't the truth

Throughout Day 2 Competition, our team was lucky having a proc that could run 4.5GHz Super PI 4M stable. According to Xu Gang, his proc could only run 4.34GHz the most while TEAM Indonesia proc mainly stable on 4.2GHz to 4.3GHz. For the 1st benchmark, our best Super PI 4M score was 1m 05s edging TEAM Indonesia with 1m 06s. However, both teams didn't manage to break into the Top 3 Chart. 3Dmark01 was the second benchmark and out of our suprise, we got 3rd Place with 72k score while TEAM Indonesia took the 2nd Place with 74k score.

The third and fourth benchmark was PCMark05 and 3DMark06 and both TEAM Malaysia and TEAM Indonesia heated out with close fight. TEAM Malaysia had a better proc but TEAM Indonesia was very good in tweaking. Finally, TEAM Malaysia lost to TEAM Indonesia with around 300 points difference for PCMark06 and 200 points for 3DMark06.

Both TEAM Malaysia and TEAM Indonesia were like challenging among ourselves ignoring other teams as we sat in a table facing each other. But it was a damn happy challenge where both teams cheering each other. We really enjoyed that moment. All the stress on us but relieved with cheering each other. We are happy for TEAM Indonesia that got the 3rd Placing for Day 2 Competition. They totally deserved it. And they were very friendly OverClockers and tought us lots of tweaking skills after SAOC.

However, need to mention here TEAM Malaysia was really lucky on Day 2. We could put up a fight cause there were a few team's vga couldn't work properly because of condensation. Especially TEAM Singapore where they had problems with their card leaving them no other option than to pull out. Same goes to TEAM Taiwan and TEAM China.

After Day 2 Competition, all the teams were invited by SAOC Organiser for a dinner banquet in a Thai restaurant just next to Summer View Hotel. TEAM Malaysia, TEAM Singapore, TEAM Indonesia and TEAM Australia made it to the dinner. We had a great time there knowing each other more and sharing some OC Tips especialy TEAM Indonesia. Both TEAM Malaysia and TEAM Indonesia was very very close after the competition. But TEAM Malaysia wasn't sharing any tips, we only steal the tips as we don't have any OC Tips usefull.

Group photo after the dinner, again irenic wants to steal time limelight, insisting standing in the middle pushing away Shamino. By the way, the first guy from left, first row is Benny Lodewijk if you all remember.

alieamin: here a tip, PM coolice, sup3rfly or irenic. 3 of them was the oc-er/tweaker. me and lolhalol was just watching over the rig so that the light keep on blinking. i recommend irenic la. he's he main man of this event. as you can see, he's the main charactor. before this it was coolice. maybe next time it would be sup3rfly or irangan. haha...

jy14: thanks. anyway, the result was way beyond our expectation. we tot we would sapu bottom placing. it was a great 1st live oc competition for us. now we are worried that we might not keep it out in near future competition. we need LUCK. hehe... regarding the pic, i'll try to dig it out and post it if possible. thanks for your idea.

anggajaya: TEAM Indonesia was the closest team with us. they were really friendly especially Benny Lodewijk if you remember him. but he told me that his account in Lowyat.NET was banned or something like that. i hope he can works it out with the mod/admin here. anyway, the indon team lepak in ocindo.com, you can find them there. seriously, they are very good. the winning team for Day 1 Competition even beat coolaler on Aquamark after they won the competition. it was like a oc demo.

anyway, i updated the scoring chart in the last 2 post. courtesy of vr-zone.com
