Hi guys, I just got my iPhone 11 Pro Max by signing up on Maxis corporate plan. Been using iPhone 8 Plus for two years and decided that it is time for me to upgrade. Unfortunately the experience was an unpleasant one.
One thing that strikes me the most is how yellowish the screen is compared to my 8 plus and iPad Air 3rd gen. The white balance is totally off the chart. Did a quick googling and find that in fact this is a very common issue. Apple advertised Pro screen but this isn’t pro at all, affecting my business workflow where I use phone for checking design and photography works.
So I contacted apple support chat, then they suggested to turn off True Tone and night mode and did a setting reset. The screen is still yellowish after all these are done. Hence they suggested to go to authorised service provider such as machines and Itworld to let the technician to diagnose what’s the problem.
And so I went to Itworld and machines. Itworld said they will proceed to replace the OLED screen within 4 hours if it is in fact a defective panel. After which they will calibrate the screen, and if unsuccessful will send to apple repair center. If the calibration fails then only apple will provide 1 to 1 exchange. Machines told me that they did encounter this complaints before, and after they sent in iPhones to apple repair center, apple will remark NTF (no trouble found) and return the phones. So they suggested me to contact Apple again.
I went to few retail stores to compare my unit with in store units, and indeed the color is different. The effect cannot be captured by a camera but it is obvious, especially when pulling up the keyboard and compare the shades of grey and button colors.
After that I contact apple support chat again, and they advised me to go back to the service center to let the technician to inspect and diagnose the phone. The technician will ultimately decide whether to repair the screen or replace the whole phone.
I’m hearing two different stories from machines and Itworld. I am not keen on screen repair or replacement as the phone is couple of days old and I believe this is a solely factory defect. I worry about waterproofing capability and reliability after they pry open and replace the screen.
Does anyone face similar issue like above? Would like to find out how the process goes especially for screen defect like this.
Oh crap, I've been a Samsung user all my life and this is the first iPhone I ever bought. I noticed the screen a bit yellow but I thought all iPhones were like that. I hated the screen but tried to live with it. Now reading what you went through, looks like something is faulty which also means I have to get mine checked. Please update whatever advise you receive or what you do after this.
