Hye, i will try to make it as short as possible.

My house, very kampung. No Unifi or Unifi Air, as per TM.

Side note : here is the situation, front of my house, maxis data can reach 3.7mb/s. Walk 6m inside, not even whatsapp can work.

But,
1) There is a Tm technician, came to repair phone and he said, my area actually can get Unifi Air, but not at rated speed.
To think abt, my current Streamyx, used to be at full health : now, it simply sucks, at almost twice the cost of Unifi Air.
UnifiAir, let it be way below rated speed, it will be still worthy.
*Nope they never managed to fix my streamyx anymore after multiple reports, or care about it anymore.

2) My neighbour, around 50m, but even deeper into forest, somehow(also NOT offered by TM) uses UnifiAir.

SO, I NEED TEST IT FIRST.

1)Can i use my phone to test UnifiAir speed?

2) I can't borrow my neighbours' router and see if my house also got coverage.
But, at same time, i can't subscribe UnifiAir with router since it's subject to 2 years contract - no way i'm going to have faith in TM to keep the speed.
SO, ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS TO TEST IT ? willing to buy SIM alone(without contract), once to test it first.

If you got samsung phone or any rooted android phone. You cqn lock 4G and disable band 5 and test the speed is ok or not. Worst case just cancel the sim. UnifiAir use LTE band 38 and 40 like yes4G

Yes u can get sim only. This 1 no contract. Advanced payment rm100.

But must use hp / mifi modem that support 2300 MHz TD-LTE (Band40).

U can view the phone that support LTE band 40 here:
https://m.gsmarena.com/results.php3?s4Gs=40

for modem, can try refer here - https://www.4gltemall.com/ue-by-spectrum/ba...it=25&mode=list

unifi air cannot make/received call. pure data.

if u have a phone that support band 5, 38 & 40. u can test. if u are outside of band 38/40 coverage, band 5 speed is still can go 20mbps if your place not congested.

find out where the tower is using cellmapper app & cellmapper maps
https://www.cellmapper.net/map?MCC=502&MNC=153
https://www.cellmapper.net/map?MCC=502&MNC=11

borrow neighbour TM UnifiAir sim card. Ask neighbour for help. Seem like neighbour understand how mobile wireless work. He like DIY guy who dont care what coverage maps said

MTK soc smartphone can select band with Super MTK engineering app. Get one 'no ads' versions.

Band 5 is slow. Look like you don't have free unifi bebas sim card either.

unifi mobile (prepaid n postpaid)
unifi air (broadband - pure data cannot call n sms)

both using the same coverage. hence as at now both type of sims support Band 5, Band 38, Band 40 of unifi (under 502153 & 50211)
the limitation now is the device. not easy to find modem/phones that support all this bands

i am a unifi bebas & unifi air user... both sims put on phone and also tested on B618-65d modem

So I heard unifi mobile can connect on 4G celcom if unifi has no coverage. How to know if your phone is on 4G celcom or 4G unifi. Cause my sister got 4GLTE on her phone using unifi mobile, but my area is not on coverage map of unifi air. I wanna use Air since my only other option is streamyx

I have never seen my unifi mobile n unifi air is riding on Celcom (50219) 4G. 3G yes but not 4G.

My experience on 1 week with unifi air 1 week alwiz riding on 4G unifi (50211 & 502153).

Unifi mobile 3G can ride on celcom and connected if u have 3g quota
Unifi air 3G shows NO SERVICE. I can see 50219 (celcom) on 3G but not connected to internet. Air will only connect with unifi 4G regardless what band (5/38/40)

But about the disable band 5 things, i don't what is that, care to run me through that? Need to use software, that requires rooting ?
Also i can use my brothers Samsung Note x(will update here soon).

Thats what i myself read from internet. But thats not the case.
And i have feeling like being cheated. Price were never reduced, still at RM110.
The actual speed, the stable 4mps is also no more. Instead getting 1-2mps kind of speed, ping was really bad, despite being streamyx.
Called last week(5th times year) to which they reset my port i get speed close to 4mps, and after a week, start s*** again.
And they dare to ask if they should open a report and tell, only if Tm fault, free of charge, otherwise got extra charges.

This sounds really bad. So typical of TM to shift the blame and victimize their customers. Switch if there is a better option or choice instead of being at their mercy.

If your phone not rooted cant lock band. If rooted can download network signal tools in play store and disable any band that you want. Unifi Air uses band 38 and 40. But unifi mobile uses band 5 (850Mhz) band 38 (2600Mhz) band 40 (2300Mhz). If you put in sim card to your phone chances are ur phone will see band 5 signal is stronger because 850Mhz can penetrate further and deeper than higher frequency like 2300 and 2600. Our smartphone is really a dumbphone cause they only measure signal strength but not the speed that it has. Usually band 5 is congested and speed is less than 5mbps for my case. So thats why i disable band 5 on my phone.
As for samsung phone there is hidden menu accessible by ussd codes that can let you disable any unwanted LTE band. I forgot what the code is, google away.

Even their most cost effectively plan, have data lmited, usually maxed at 60gb, i cry, lol.
Maxis called today, just to inform they are srry that my area is not under their coverage.
I think if Tsunami come, my area sure go under radar very quick.

60GB for today's modern age is just too little or unacceptable. Should try scouting around for one that offers unlimited quota but you might have to bear with the limiting speed. Better than nothing.

Tsunami attack? Sounds dangerous and serious but in Malaysia I doubt that happens very often, especially after the 2004 incident. Stay safe Bro ✌

Any suggestion from you?

True, the convenience of having mobile internet makes thing so much easier. Only the speed performance is limited if compared to fibre internet but better than nothing if still stuck with copper Streamyx 😅

Set apn to unifi
think that full bar most likely is band 5 haha signal strong but speed so so

The ussd codes for samsung to change radio function i think is *#2263# if im not mistaken. Tried in my fren s10 it works last time. But not sure about the codes. It was long ago.

Or

Just buy modded modem from shopee. Personally using huawei b310 now. So far ok la. My place can get 10-15mbps on band 38

I have a similar problem, i was thinking to do long range wireless bridge however i have to erect two towers 40m which is quite expensive. Now im thinling about using this booster for unifi air.

Here i need some opinions about doing this:

If im not mistaken, unifi air is working as the concept with mobile signal? No? If it yes, then i can proceed to buy booster antenna, position it direstly to the tower and connect to unifi air.

Is it possible to do this?

I thought only the Qualcomm/Snapdragon SoC Samsung flagship devices can lock band. I never heard of local MY Exynos being able to perform locking bands. Please do correct me if I am wrong.
