I used to ride everyday to work with a fake Taichi backpack.

After 5 years it's worn out. Now I ride with a fake Dainese tailpack.

1) Tankbags just get in the way. I dislike having a bulky bag in front of my chest. Rimassss....

2) Panniers add too much to the width of the bike.

3) Top boxes add too much to the length of the bike (and they're fugly as hell).

The backpack you should go for commuting is Seiberton backpack or OGIO Mach 5. These two bags are good for commuting. To go for a medium sizes backpack is to go for AXO backpack.

I ride with my timbuk2 messenger bag for 10 years. Rain or shine no problem. It's not waterproof but on my back in the heaviest rain my laptop is still dry. L size is big can fit 5kg rice bag if need be or you Childs diapers.

I bring my laptop at the back, not comfortable riding. Changed to smaller bag it feels better but the small back can't put extra stuff other than the laptop. Anyone can recommend a good solution? One problem is hot, I enjoy very much riding without a backpack but caring a backpack does solve an issue, like the need to store my glove and some other stuff.

Before you decide on the bag, there are few questions you must ask yourself.

1- Is comfort your only priority?
2- How about safety of your laptop in case of an accident, lack of armour in the bag can damage the laptop but also could protect you from injuries
3- Rain is a common foe for bikers here, so you want it to be completely waterproof or just water resistant, big difference between the two.
4- What is the budget you allocated for it.

I have used several high end backpacks including from Kriega (its an over rated brand), but in the end I stick with ABS Hardshell backpack. Not only the bag is about 25L in capacity but the hardshell will protect the contents of the bag from damage. I had a high speed accident, with this bag except for few scratches on the outside it was perfect and my Macbook was not harmed in any way, as there is a separate laptop compartment with security straps. Furthermore these bags come with a rain coat to increase water resistance, but I would still advise to purchase a separate one. The cost varies between 400 to 600 bucks, but they are well worth the investment.

Good luck.

I'm using deuter backpack with aircomfort...as my mountain biking bag, even for riding.   Not hot.

Hiking bags are nice and comfortable to carry because of ample ventilation space, but they are meant for hiking not a crotch rocket lol.

Any kriega r20 user here riding sportsbike? Is it worth the price? How about the ergo thingy? Im using us10 to put my baju hujan and shoes cover, padlock as well as chain spray. Need backpack to put my 2kg laptop. Now using normal laptop bag. Very annoying cuz the strap will fly around and 'slap' you when riding above 100km/h and the shoulder strap also not really comfortable.
