As title mentioned, as there is no apple store in malaysia, has anyone ever make a purchase from apple online store instead of buying from authorised retailer like machine/switch? Interested in buying a macbook pro from the website as there is a student discount of rm 400. However, i am afraid if there will be any problem.

No issues. All warranty will still be covered by authorized reseller like machine/switch. Go ahead and make the purchase if you have the requirements for student discount

Machines and other apple resellers also has student discount. So if you are uncomfortable with online purchase, can go for these resellers

A small crash if you dont like, they can exchange for you. but authorize resellers cannot. Haha

I got my iPad from switch, and I was very pleased with their customer service.

Even got it engraved! No hassle

Buy from Apple online store. There is no incentive to buy from authorised resellers. Not to mention unknown third party.

Dun cheap out and regret later.

At the end of the day, in my opinion, it all boils down to preference, convenience and discounts. Otherwise, there's no concrete reason to pick one over the other.

I prefer purchasing products from authorised resellers because I quite enjoy the traditional shopping experience, but I have purchased products off the Apple Store (app) and I've had nothing but fantastic experiences thus far.

If you're entitled to the RM400 discount on the Apple Online Store, then my suggestion would be to go for it!

Bought iPhone 6 previously, no issue

I have bought an iMac, iPad and MacBook Air from the online Apple store. Also a few accessories over the years. Never had a problem with the service and delivery.

Whatever you do, just avoid Machines. I've had (repeated) bad experience with them. If you're looking for an installment plan, Switch has one of the more lenient requirements (if any - gotta double check).

yet another hit against Machines. few of my friends had un-pleasant experiences as well. Wish official Apple store would open then all the rest can close.

Between 2011 and December 2017, I made online purchases from Apple Store Malaysia online: an 27" iMac, 3 MacBook Pro's, 2 iPads, 2 iPhones and 1 iPod Classic. All delivered with no issues and all still in use today. While I was studying, I applied for education discounts, no proof was asked of me. For the first Mac I purchased, I did receive a phone call from Apple Singapore; I thought they wanted proof of education, I asked where to send it. However, lady said, not necessary, she only wanted to verify address and credit card details as it was first large sum purchase from my Apple account online. All MacBooks and iMac, education pricing were applied for, and proof was never asked from me, but I guess they could do a random check in the future. Delivery was done by DHL Express, all were trackable. Main reason why I ordered online was because I wanted them spec'ed up, and Machines (and other Mac brick & mortar stores) often do not carry different models other than the base/standard models. Also, engraving was done by the online store too! I got my iPod Classic engraved.

To share another positive experience, a friend of mine purchased iMacs from Apple Store Malaysia online for work; when he had issue with one of them, he called Apple customer support and had a conversation with Apple on the phone (which included trouble-shooting and then agreement that some thing wasn't right). Arrangements were made with little hassle. The guy providing customer support sounded like he was based in the USA, and was very friendly, there was no fuss to get it returned with no need of documents or proof. He just said, put the iMac in the box it came with. Apple had DHL Express picked it up right from his house to be shipped back to Apple for free - whilst under warranty of course. Saved him a trip from carrying it all the way to a store.

I noticed that the online store only sell the latest model but other authorized seller sell older version.

Can I know how to get an older version from the apple online store as I cannot seems to find it

Other seller can sell older versions cos there's stock at their warehouse...

Very unfortunate that they dont have refurbished units in the Malaysian store. Usually very good value.

If you buy an Apple product from Apple Store Malaysia, could you just walk into any authorized store (Switch, Machine) for servicing? My friend had a bad experience in servicing his iPhone in Machine, and was told that the iPhone wasn't purchased from their store.

You should not have any problem servicing your apple product at the authorized service centers if you buy online. Usually the apple warranty online should be valid at their authorized service providers also. But if you jailbreak your phone or made modifications to it on your own then won't apply already. If you're having problems you can email apple then bring the warranty details or email from apple as proof.

Yeah, I had no problems; walked into Machines at Mid Valley before to have my MacBook Air serviced. They don’t care where you purchase it from, just make an appointment, and then you speak to their service team, and they will try to trouble-shoot. The costs of service or replacing any parts will depend on whether your device is still under warranty. They will send your device off to Apple Singapore or their local authorised service centre. You will just have to bear any costs incurred, if out of warranty. If still under warranty, or if you purchase Apple Care, any Apple Store globally will accept servicing for free. I had another issue with my MacBook Air purchased from Apple Malaysia online store, and I went to the UK for studies, and Apple UK fixed it for me free. No proof of purchased needed because you would have purchased your Apple device using your Apple ID, and that is linked to the Apple Store online and has all of your purchases made in history, which has serial numbers. So they have warranties attached to those devices automatically.

Yeah, I know!! I would purchase refurbished units in a heartbeat, because apparently they have better QC when reselling. USA & UK refurnished units sell like hot cakes for their value too.

The Apple Malaysia online store doesn’t sell A LOT of other stuff too, compared to Apple Singapore. So hard to get accessories like external RAID solutions, LG Thunderbolt 5k monitor, etc.

I try to get my partner MBA 2017 but all out of stock .. surprisingly they sell 2015 model

That sounds positive to me, because it is totally different than what I heard from my friend.

Asked for a reserved 2017 model but no call back and no one pick the blardy phone .. So worst case scenario is get the older version from Apple authorized re-seller ...

Apple Online store doesn't do reserved... how long ago did this happen?

Actually I was thinking of getting a refurb 15 inch when the 16 inch came out. But at the end, for that amount of difference, would rather have the latest machine than start thinking later if I need to upgrade.

Didnt know about the better QC, that will logically be true because they have to check every unit manually.

I did the reserve at Machines and not through online store on last Sunday.

Always bought my units from the online store since it started in Malaysia. Sent my macbook, iphone and apple watch many times for repairs, no issues.

I had an apple watch bought in HK with Apple Care+ which covers for screen breakage. I broke my screen a year ago and sent it for repair in Malaysia thinking they will charge me the 200 bucks for each repair of screen as stated in the contract. Initially they said that I have to pay full price (not the 200 bucks apple care+ price), but after 2 days called me back that and said they will repair the screen totally FREE after consulting with Apple. They didnt repair but replaced the apple watch. Totally new and I am still using today.

May i simply assume buying directly from apple store is way better than authorised seller? Coz im planning to buy iphone from apple store, but the only problem is my current place doesnt allow any direct postage. Unless if i want to let the whole world know about me buying an iphone tho.

But anyway, thanks to OP and it was great to get some insight before buying something.



Anyway, may i ask you guys whom had much more experiences either i get to check the phone first upon delivery or what? Im a bit worried bcoz i always get something-is-wrong unit whenever i buy devices tho

for the Apple Online store, keep the original packaging, and if there's any problem with your purchase, just call the hotline 1800-803-638.

Why use M2U? Just use your card. Debit or credit is accepted. Debit is linked to your SA.

is it normal to get charged extra 1% when buying from their online store? My invoice for apple watch SE was rm1349 but I check by Credit card statement...got charged 1362.49 insread...wtf

So i had the same anxious feelings and when i called DHL they said apple ships all of their stuff under 1 airway bill from china separate to your airway bill so that is why you dont get the individual update etc. You will see the update when it has arrived and ready for delivery in 3-4 days after.
