I am using whatsapp registered with a number which no longer in use. Found out that number is now being used by another person.

Can that person access to my whatsapp ? If yes, anyway to stop it ?

Since the number is with you now and the person forgot to delete whatsapp....
you get to see all his secrets.....
but whatsapp messages sync with gmail, not whatsapp number, so you get to see his contacts, but not his messages.


Lesson of the day, if you want to axe a number, remember to delete your whatsapp account first.

I think its the other way round. The other person now owns the number that ts is currently using for whatsapp

it doesn't sycn with gmail la, is gdrive btw once new login it will base on the phone gdrive account not old one.

to use google drive, you need gmail, thus gmail = google drive la....
but either way, unless the person downloaded whatsapp with the same google account, it shouldn't sync messages...
numbers and contacts though, might stilll be sync'ed


from my experience, if you dont choose to sync cloud messages and only sign in, your contacts will still be there, but not your messages.
so new owner will know who you have contacted before, but not necessarily why you've contacted them

Happened to me when I moved to Qatar last year. Many numbers sold in Qatar are recycled numbers.

So, when I registered whatsapp with that number, hoping to actually use it, instead was greeted with so many groups (previous user 's groups). No older messages was downloaded to my phone, though.

Ended up cancelling that whatsapp (and also IMO) account. Since got many random Indians messaging me using their alphabet... Too many groups though... I think I only announced the change of ownership in one or two groups before I cancelled the whatsapp account.

why didn't you just stay and share their bob and vagene collection with /k?

Kenot... Bunch of old retirees... Maybe a few to be retired guys. They mostly (when speaking in English) talk about stuff in their community, investment in property and what not. Nothing of /k interest.

I mean, the guy I "inherited" the number from probably also went home because of retirement.

He is the boss now he can access your acc anytime. When he sign in WhatsApp you lose access to it immediately.

the whatsapp-gdrive sync is per device.
even if you sync to same gdrive, each device will need to get its unique login tokens.

which device signed into whatsapp the last, owns the whatsapp login. it would have logged out previous sign-ins. active only in single telephony device + optional access via web.whatsapp.com

repeat the same for truecaller, as it needs you to sign in before you can delete EXISTING stranger's profile.



add:
your visible whatsapp contact list is your own contact list.
signing into a stranger's whatsapp number does not supply and append their contact list into your contact list.

if the new owner install and login whatsapp, you will be automatically sign out.

since whatsapp is using your Google drive for backup, he wont be able to load from the archive

Cannot access since most backup is either local or Google. All you can do is to tell your friends and family to delete that old number from their contact/whatsapp/groups.

Whatsapp won't stop that old number from using their service.
