I'm currently looking for a display upgrade since I've been sticking with 1080p for so long, it's time for an upgrade.
I have like a wide price range there but i'm looking for options and opinions on what's best to get atm.
Have yet to decide on how much I should spend, but i'm willing to spend up to 5k for a good display.

Current PC spec: 7800X, Asus X299-E Gaming, 1080ti, 32gb ram
Budget: RM1.5k - 5k
Games: I play all kinda of games. All rounder.
Currently I think I'd prefer: 27'' or 32'', 2K, 144hz, IPS/VA panels.

I've narrowed down to a few choice but if you have others I don't mind.

Budget route: Acer Nitro VG271UP (RM1.4k)
2K route: ROG XG32VQ (RM2.1k), Asus ROG PG279QZ (RM ?? Can't find any seller who sell this one yet with G-Sync)
4K Ultrawide route: Alienware AW3418DW (RM4K), LG 34GK950F (RM5.5k), Samsung CHG90 (RM4.6k)
Makan Maggi route: Asus ROG PG27UQ(RM11k) Yeah not buying this actually lol.

Let me know if you have better suggestions, or I could narrow down my list as well. I tried 4k last time, while I think it's gorgeous for watching videos, and gaming(with some lower settings since current hardware is still shit)...Windows scaling I found is quite an issue still, and the worse thing about 4k, has to be browsing, everything looks so bad, but I was testing it on some 4k 60inch display tho lol. Leaning more towards 2K resolution, and 144hz. Also any of you guys could recommend some colour calibrator guy if there is a one. Also freesync with nvidia cards good meh now, since that works now?

Why not 32 inch 1440p at 144Hz? LG has the 32GK650F (G-Sync compatible, according to this list https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ej9...RNJY/edit#gid=0 , VA panel and 144Hz) for RM2399 icon_idea.gif

IMHO 1440p 144Hz is much better than 4K at 60Hz as you can actually see the difference moving from 60Hz to 144Hz brows.gif

There's also the Gigabyte Aorus AD27QD for RM2499 if you want to go with the IPS route (and wants a smaller display) icon_idea.gif

Yeah the LG one not bad, but according to rtings testing, the performance not as good. Gigabyte Aorus AD27QD looks dope btw. Will consider that one at least nod.gif

I think the PG279Q might be also a decent option too if you want native G-Sync compatibility - however the Aorus is certified by nVidia themselves to be G-Sync compatible BTW icon_idea.gif

Also, do you play a lot of fast paced games (especially competitive FPS)? If you play a lot of single player games (especially games that have a lot of dark scenes), you should consider getting a VA panel instead of an IPS one as VA panels tends to have deeper blacks and better contrast icon_idea.gif

However going with a VA panel will have slower response rates compared to IPS panels icon_idea.gif

Here's a review of the LG monitor:

PG279Q a bit expensive for a 2k monitor imo. hmm.gif Very expensive hmm.gif
I think if I go 2k price range would be around RM2k to RM2.5k is nice. But RM3.5k pricing can go ultrawide or 4k laugh.gif

I forgot to mention what games I play. It's actually every type of genre tbh. I also have a PS4 and a Switch as well. Thanks for mentioning that, forgot to mention what games I play. Tbh I don't do much FPS this days, but when Cyberpunk comes out, i'll probably gonna play it a lot haha.

IPS or VA panel is fine for me, but I do design as well, so i think IPS is better for this kind of stuff? There is one thing I worry about tho regarding buying a monitor.. it's that I like to use my desktop in a dark room.. so light bleeding might be an issue for some monitors.. which is probably hard to know if it's not on rtings reviews.

Thanks for the youtube link, I forgot about that guy.. i'll look into it.

Since you intend to use it with consoles (consoles don't really support ultrawide - it will end up with black bars), so I'd recommend going with 16:9 monitors instead icon_idea.gif

In your use case, I think an IPS panel may work, but the issue is you need to deal with panel lottery (especially your use case says that you intend to use it dark room), as IPS panels tend to have IPS glow or backlight bleed sweat.gif

Console wise I have another tv for it, so not a problem still. Since it doesn't go above 60hz anyway for console games, yet.

Yeah those panel lottery. What's the best panel or tech for those who use monitors in dark rooms btw. I guess I need to research on this.

VA but it really depends on which panel to get though icon_idea.gif

But I'm not so sure about color accuracy sweat.gif

I have 32GK650F in the US, bought at $326 including tax -> about less than RM1400~

I would say it is pretty good, but RM2399 in Malaysia is rip off

A lot pretty much are a rip off in terms of price here, can't compare to US sadly. sad.gif Also if you have anything you would like to recommend let me know. I'm using Amazon US to compare local price as well to see if there is a huge difference or not before buying most of the time. Wish we have price matching practice here. Also not long till Black Friday, should just wait for best deals.

I think due to the fact that our hardware prices are always at RRP and there's no deals whatsoever so that's why it's that expensive sweat.gif

Unless we can eliminate the distributors and get manufacturers to sell directly, there's not much to be done TBH sweat.gif

Most likely best to go with the budget route I think. Which is the Acer Nitro VG271UP. Could spend the rest of the other budget on a new phone or VR headset haha

Kinda worried about the black uniformity on this one tho. Looks a bit too bright when it's black, and also maybe not good for a dark room. In a well lit room, might have bad reflections too.

I think not bad going the budget route for now, considering the next lineup of gpu could actually do well in 4k maybe. laugh.gif

Looks pretty basic and good for the price tbh. Would consider that againt the Acer Nitro.
I just worry about the black levels for 1k priced monitors, seems to have light bleed and stuff, and black level issue for picture quality.

Damn this one looks really good. G-Sync lagi, best part 5x USB 3.0 lol
Personally I'd consider this on my list now, but I kinda wish RTings site has this reviewed.
You have this personally?

I think that Alienware monitor is definitely my pick if i'm going ultrawide.
Still dilemma which to choose from, not in a rush to buy one yet, probably in a month or two, do some more research before buying lol laugh.gif

Since my current display is a TV, i'm a bit spoiled in terms of contract, black uniformity and etc.. Looks like if I'm going to a real monitor, I have to live with not having this, unless I go with OLED.

Yep. Using it right now with my 2080 Ti. Loving it since G-Sync worked perfectly with absolutely zero flickers
Previously using Samsung C32HG70 but it sometimes it flickers when G-Sync is enabled. Although not blaming on it entirely since the C32HG70 is actually a Freesync monitor, not a G-Sync monitor
Now using C32HG70 as my secondary monitor

I've always been a fan of 32 inch monitors. Have used five 32 inch monitors. Can never go back to smaller screen

1. AOC AG322FCX - 1080p 144Hz Freesync v1
Worst experience ever. 1st unit flickers after 3 months, got a new replacement unit, same thing happened after 2 months. Got a full refund after returning it to the distributor

2. Viewsonic VX3209-2K - 1440p 60Hz normal monitor (overclockable to 84Hz)
Work monitor. Bought 2 years ago & still working perfectly until now

3. ACER ED323QUR - 1440p 144Hz Freesync v1 (G-Sync compatible)
Quite a good experience but gave it to my brother

4. Samsung C32HG70 - 1440p 144Hz Freesync v2 (G-Sync compatible)
Great monitor while I was using dual RX 580. Now using it as my secondary monitor to display Outlook, WhatsApp, HWMonitor & MSI Afterburner while I play games & watch movies on the Z321QU

5. ACER Z321QU - 1440p 165Hz G-Sync
Bought it at the same time I bought my 2080 Ti. Best gaming monitor I've ever had

Thank you for this input.. now i'm tempted to get the Acer Z321QU. laugh.gif
My current display also 32inch, and I think it will be hard to go back to smaller screen, same case with smartphone as well I guess. So i'll be considering that monitor seriously. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Oh yeah, how is the windows scaling, browsing experience? Good? Do you use your display in a dark room? Wondering if black looks gray and etc when it comes to dark room.

Somewhat confused about Predator Z1 since the model name is also Z321QU. I guess we talking about Predator version since it's G-SYNC. the Acer Z321QU seems to be freesync

Z321QU is Predator Z1. There are 4 Predator Z1 models. All of them is G-Sync, not FreeSync
