Hi dear all!
Did anyone here ever apply to write thesis in English in UKM?
I am currently enrolled in master research programme and am really shocked to find out that students are required to submit their thesis in BM. sweat.gif
I heard that there is a possible way to get around it though - by having a foreign collaboration or foreign supervisor...
But the thing is my research does not involve any foreign collaboration...
Is there any other valid reason which can be used in the application? hmm.gif
Mind to share your experience?
Many thanks in advance! notworthy.gif

I thought everyone knows that you have to write in BM in UKM.

Which field are you in anyway?

How about writing an email to a foreign lecturer (especially the expertise) in your area to get his approval to be your field supervisor?

Read some papers and let's say this particular author has written a lot of papers on your area of interest, then quickly go write him an email to ask for suggestions, etc. and then later ask him if he can be your field supervisor.

Some have done that before (but not in UKM).

Try to find an external examiner from abroad who is an expert in the area. In that way, your thesis should be written in English.

There are multiple ways of writing your thesis in English. You just need a letter from either your superior (if you are working) or sponsor (if you have scholarship) or any letter in general that justify you to write in English.

If I am not mistaken postgrad in UKM are now no longer under IGS (I think it is called PPS in UKM), your faculty has the right to decide. Hence it is quite easy to get approved. I suppose just ask someone to write a letter (even your past employer or superior) should do. Talk to your graduate coordinator to find out more.

However, I don't think foreign external examiner will do as mentioned by others. A friend of mine used this excuse and in the end he would have to convert his thesis into Malay and got a local external examiner instead.

Hope this helps.

Nope I don't think most IPTA allows that (maybe co but not main) due to logistic and cost

you dont have a strong reason to write in english. Thesis in BM have a lot of advantages such as low similarity index for plagiarism. you can direct translate with minimum rephrasing for your literature review. all sciences and engineering words and terms are already listed in DBP.

Holy crap.

In USM, we have a choice to write in BM or English. Even the master's degree coursework exam papers are bilingual - we may choose to answer in either language.

I'm a student of UKM and currently writing my thesis in English.
I've had a letter written by my sponsors and still got rejected. In the end, I enlisted the help of a foreign supervisor in USM.

Hi, I am an active Internet user, because I am a student and this is logical, and I try to make the most of the information available. I write similar works myself, I have a lot of experience, but I often use cool resources. For example, I recommend going to and exploring the Observation Essays, very interesting materials created by professionals using examples of various cases and situations from real life, books or anything, good luck with your study, you should like it!
