QUOTE(watabakiu @ Oct 5 2019, 12:24 PM) Not ideal but still fine, as long as the type/level of tires are comparable. For example like me, I currently use Continental Extreme Contact Sport at front and CSC3 at rear, both are UHP category. Or last time on my wife's car V12E2 front and PS4 rear. Better not mix different categories for example UHP and mid range/economy tires coz it might alter the handling noticeably becoming more understeer/oversteer. |

If ps4/ps3 combo still ok. |

tyres are the only patch of contact for your car and the road, it is extremely important to have the best you can effort as safety is paramount, unless your life is not worth it

It doesn't matter.
As long is not left and right are different. But do remember the characteristic of the tire are different. Might need this at rear or that at the front and etc. |

All tires are build for traction, control and road holding - does different tire at front and back influence the function that is build for?? Unlikely - it is not ideal but don't see major issue at all - usually the front tyre worn out at least 70% faster ahead of the rear if its not rotated, unless you are really diligent going to shop to do that on quarterly basis, most will end up with uneven tyre wear - changing all 4 tyres are usually recommended by the shop - as it means customer spending more, shop will exaggerate the impact, otherwise its a non-issue..

Ideally…. All four tires should be the same. However if you’re in a situation where you have to replaced two of them….. The new tire or the one with better traction should always be placed at the rear. Why? Because it is important for the rear to have traction when you’re doing high speed cornering (whether its dry or wet). Simple logic, front high traction….. rear low traction…. During cornering, rear loose traction and oversteer occurred (yes, its fun for drifters but its not funny for normal drivers) If you don’t believed me… do a simple google or go Youtube and search for ‘New tire Front or rear’ and see it for yourself.
Why tire shop always tell you to put new tire on the front? I had friend whom once worked in a tire shop and told me… Front tire wears out faster than the rear, hence you change tire more often… (if you’re not the type who do tire rotation regularly) |

Hi, newbie question, does this matter if it's front/rear wheel drive? Or it applies to all types? Why tire shop always tell you to put new tire on the front? depends on the situation. I use softer side wall tire at the back and harder side wall tire at the front.

QUOTE(vinnyming @ Oct 10 2019, 10:22 AM) It applies to all.... including 4WD & AWD (I know some would argued that it doesn't matters if the car has traction controls.... but trust me, it makes a difference especially when it comes to safety) |
