Goodyear releases 110,000km long-life DuraPlus 2 tyre
By CARSIFU | 30 September 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: Goodyear Malaysia has released its second-generation Assurance DuraPlus 2 tyre that boasts of 110,000km durability without compromising on safety and performance thanks to its TredLife Technology.

"This tyre features some of our latest advancements, for example, an innovative tread pattern and re-formulated compound to offer extended tread life, optimum grip, and minimal road noise for absolute peace-of-mind,” said Goodyear Malaysia managing director Alex Ng.

The DuraPlus 2 is now available at all Goodyear AutoCare centres across Malaysia, with sizes ranging from 13 to 16-inch and retails from RM136 to RM293.

Goodyear DuraPlus 2 - 02
The tyre mileage projection was tested by Goodyear Testing Division in sizes 185/65R14 and 205/55R16 on roads in Thailand, although the company also declared that actual mileage may vary due to road conditions, type of terrain, vehicle, tyre pressure and maintenance, climate and driving styles among others.

The new tyre boasts of a new-designed tread and cavity shape coupled with a re-formulated long-lasting compound.

The tread pattern now comes with a symmetrical-design with a larger tread width that allows for a larger contact patch with the road at any given time, and also a higher level of flexibility to rotate in the event of irregular wear.

Goodyear DuraPlus 2 - 03
Additionally, an enhanced cavity shape helps to provide a more squarish and balanced footprint to evenly distribute contact pressure, leading to extended mileage.

Narrow lateral grooves along the side of the tyres, on the other hand, assist in reducing road noise caused by air pumping.

Noise is further reduced with the use of rubber strips between the ply and liner to physically dampen any vibrations.

Through an enhanced compound formula, the tyre’s tensile strength and wear resistance have been significantly improved to ensure high mileage performance.

Goodyear DuraPlus 2 - 04
The use of this compound is not only presented throughout the tread but also along the sidewall to offer long-term resistance against damage caused by environmental factors.

Furthermore, the tyre uses a minimum of two layers of high modulus, low shrinkage ply material in the sidewall which helps to ensure strong resistance to external impacts.

“The new Assurance DuraPlus 2 features TredLife Technology, which is essentially a combination of the symmetrical tread pattern, improved compound and 2-ply construction throughout the tyre. These elements increase the overall durability of the tyre, to deliver unmatched mileage tread life, which is important in a country like Malaysia that has a variety of road conditions,” said Goodyear Malaysia product manager Benjamin Chong.

you ask again after 3-4 years la laugh.gif
duraplus 1 is noisier and less comfortable compared to other brands like dunlop j5 or hankook kinergy ex, viking or even silverstone tires. cant comment on duraplus 2 lol.

but will i use again? yes, if it can last long2 as what their claim, wet performance is acceptable for me. stay away from falken, the least noise out of economy tires, but kinda bad grip when it come to braking and bad wet performance.

> Long lasting
> Noise performance

Pick one

No such thing as both criteria with current rubber blending mixtures and additives.

You want low NVH then the threads won't last until 50-60K KM (let alone 100K KM)

You want long lasting, the rubber will harden by your 3-4th year of usage.

80k km usage so far

At 100k km (after 60k usage), i rotated the front tyres to rear. Now this two tayar side bunga almost gone but still there, the centre bunga condition now bout 60% only.

The front tyre now (which were my rear tyre) are almost like new. Or maybe i can say 80% condition. Gonna have to buy replacement for the rear next year iguess

There is no primacy 4 ST, never seen or heard of one before.
Maybe they put the ST sign so that ppl don't confuse PS4 and P4.
So far never heard of Michelin fake tires for cars.
But for bikes I've encountered some maybe fake ones, but actually it is older models or for other regions.

But seriously, I don't want to confuse ppl, I've seen a few luxury cars with PS4ST. Probably as OEM tires. But you can't buy those at the Michelin shop.

True, then comes the maintenance, ppl buy tires expect to last 100K, but no send tires for maintenance, end up cracking, premature and uneven wear.

thats just 4 to 5 years regular driving. so yes, can last that long. ive been using duraplus on my iswara ever since they stopped making the eagle GA. current set have been on my wheels for more than 4 years now (granted, i dont use my iswara very often). tread still thick. but ride comfort is low. the rubber is quite hard now so road noise is higher. im planning on changing them out soon just because i feel its unsafe to drive on old tyres.

I got a friend working with Michelin Malaysia. ST tyres means manufacture for SEA use as the rubber compound is different from Europe made.

u do spirited driving, cilok here n there and fast during wet
and you're considering eco tyres?

u planning to use the leftover money for funeral service isn't it?
or you're putting it to your life insurance that your family is the beneficiaries

Provided if u keep your car's suspension condition (lower arm, bushes, alignment and camber) to the absolute fullest u just might be able to get full life out of it

i knew one accord user bought the PS4 but made from spain. the different is it does not last long in our hot weather, the rubber kinda easy to botak than mine SEA made PS4 after 20k km.

Yes that's exactly what happen to me. I remember years ago I spend a lot of money buying Italian made pirelli Tyre. Shitty mileage, my friend buy made in prc pirelli Tyre awesome mileage. Apparently pirelli Tyre manufacted in PRC is specifically for SEA countries. Different rubber compound.
