that is something to do with the exchange.

If HKEX, it is like Msia Bursa or SGX, need min. 1 lot or 100 shares.

US stock can buy just 1 share.
*
Yep, it varies based on stock exchange.

Also, for HKEX, it also very well depends on the stock which you are purchasing too. For example,

Tencent: min lot is 100 units (i.e. 1 lot = 100 units)
China maple leaf: min lot is 2000 units (i.e. 1 lot = 2000 units)

For US, as mentioned, minimum is 1 share. smile.gif Though, for fractional shares which was mentioned too, I had friends trading it, but never explored it personally.

Hi guys, newcomer on the replies here! But had been reading posts here for the past few months hehe tongue.gif

That said, I made a video to actually summarise some key info gathered from this forum here to help those who want to open one. Basically a video guidance contrasting to the text guidance over here in Lowyat.

It's a very long video but hope it can be an additional resource for those new ones wanting to open an account!

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and have just registered my IBKR Pro account early this month.

I have funded my account by sending USD via Transferwise a few times without any problem but on my latest attempt I could not proceed because "Transferwise could not accept payments to this recipient".

When I emailed them for clarification, this is the answer that I received :

We do not support businesses or transactions which are involved in any of the following categories, such businesses or transactions may be declined. While this list is representative, it is not exhaustive, and we reserve our right to deny our services to any customers who exceed our risk tolerance.

Most likely, this comes under either 1.2.1 or 1.2.2, or 1.2.3 in our terms of use , which fall under
1.2 Unsupported businesses and transactions

Anyone encountered the same problem? Can this problem be solved without abandoning Transferwise to use other fintech companies?

anyone tried changing trading permission?

its says i need 2FA enabled, but i already did

is 2 FA = login from browser + authenticate with phone right?

I have experienced this before. After 2FA, still cannot change the permission = you're not eligible for that product!!
You can contact TSG if you want.

Usually for other trading permissions, you can change easily. Certain trading permissions have additional requirements. You can check IBKR website.

Yes, I registered my account with TransferWise and just transferred USD to IBKR. Made online payment of MYR from my local bank to TransferWise's local OCBC account.

On IBKR side I just clicked on 'make a deposit', chose USD, clicked on 'bank wire', put 'Transferwise' as sending institution and specify the amount in USD. IBKR's recipient details came out in the next page and I used the details in my TransferWise page.
The only change I made is I only use the first 8digits of the account number given by IBKR as recipient account number.
The personal number Uxxxxxxx I put as reference so that IBKR can track.

Managed to transfer 5 times without any issues. IBKR received the money within hours and held it for 4 days before crediting to my IBKR account

TransferWise charges RM57.25 for every RM10K transferred in USD to IBKR.

I am told that this is cheaper than what local banks charge.

It would be a loss if future transfers can no longer be done via TransferWise

Well done!! thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

Just another question, is your IBKR account linked to TSG or just a pure IBKR account?

Well, if you want to buy Berkshire, there's the cheaper class B option.

Ya, i know that.
Just giving him example of one stock price with super high price. So imagine buying that without fractional share

Oh, didnt know about this. But i rarely go look at China stock or HKEX.
Good info.
Is it due to the min. Transaction? In that case actually per trade cost actually not that cheap..

I registered directly with IBKR. I have been trading US & HK shares via local investment banks prior to this. When a former classmate introduced me to IBKR I decided to give it a try as the fees are very much lower

Hi all,

I would want to setup a foreign trading account preferably to trade in the US stock market. I have been quite a profitable trader for years and overall in Bursa Malaysia. I believe it's time for me to venture out. I'm talking about physical shares and not other financial instruments such as CFD's etc.

Hence I would love some suggestions about which broker should I choose based on the following criteria:
1) Low brokerage fee
2) Easy to setup and convenient for settlement
3) Withdrawals and deposits are easy and the profits could be easily remitted back and convertible instantly to cash (liquid)
4) Trading platform is user friendly.

Are there any local brokers from those who are very experienced in trading in the US stock market that it would be a good one?

Thank you in advance for your time and advise.

Your answer can be found here.
Alternatively use trading 212. Issue is funding and withdrawal is going to get expensive as you are going to be use TT with banks.

I was considering to withdraw fund from IBKR to Transferwise multicurrency amount, but it is temporarily close for service now. The Transferwise blog post list out quite a few of local bank option.

https://transferwise.com/sg/blog/best-multi...counts-malaysia

Anyone tried withdraw money from IBKR to multicurrency account offered by local Malaysia bank e.g. PB, RHB, CIMB ...

Public bank multicurrency account looks a reasonable low cost option besides Transferwise. RM30 annual fee, USD 1 transaction charge.

nick8233 if you are planning to use Trading212, keep in mind the withdrawal method = most commonly method used for depositing money.
