I'm currently residing in The Square @ One City, Subang Jaya. Getting Fibre Internet here is a real hassle. I have to pay 2K deposit to MCT management just to be able to get either Time Fibre Business (no personal packages available) or YTL Broadband. Those are the only two options available so no Unifi Air, Maxis Fibre, ViewQuest, etc.

Naturally, I looked for an alternative and came across Digi Infinite 150 which seems to be almost perfect. There's no quota and as I have 4G LTE coverage here according to their map, I should be able to download games at 15-20 Mbps (in theory). I should mention that Digi Infinite 150 isn't really unlimited. Once you hit 1 TB, they cap your speed to 5 Mbps.

But that's not all. Community posts on Digi lead me to believe that the company throttles speed when the SIM is tethered to a 4G LTE Modem. I need to know how bad the situation is. Should I get Digi 150 Infinite or should I bite the bullet and just get the available Fibre Internet for nearly 3K?

TLDR: Does tethering to a 4G LTE Modem throttle Digi Infinite 150 download speed?

You mean tethering from a modem?

It does claim to have unlimited tethering, but speeds vary throughout the day depending on the congestion.
But say if you hit the 1TB tethering quota, the tethering speeds drop to 10Mb/s? Which is still acceptable in my opinion.

No throttle.
Performance depends on your device & reception of course.
Just using some cheapo D-LINK DWR-932C MiFi here, generic LTE device (not dual band / LTE-A which are way faster)
connected to PC - on a good day I can get 40mbps. Usually just 20~30mbps ish.
Ping is fine, in the range of 60~90ms playing game from Singapore server.
Bet I can get even higher speed if there's an antenna port available on the modem/mifi ranting.gif
The old Yagi 3G 18dbi antenna seems to have positive effect for LTE connection as well, when I was using previous modem with antenna support.

If anything it just the upload can be a bit slow, dunno if just my device issue.
Hard to even reach 10mbps upload. Most of the time just really slow.
Not really ideal for things like Youtube content creation.

Just make sure to force LTE mode, the 3G mode might be really slow.
Dunno if just area problem or intentional.

Never hit the 1TB range so dunno what happens next really.

I actually bought 60 gigs of data for my Yoodo sim near the start of the month. That's why I haven't used it yet. Plus, the modem will be in my hands tomorrow! Honestly, I would use it to download stuff but my Note 5 heats up like crazy if I keep hotspot on for too long. I totally get you though.

So the modem arrived yesterday. Tried it out. Gotta say, I'm bummed out sad.gif Max I got was 1MBps on Speedtest on every device. Not saying that that's terrible speed but I expected around 3 MBps after 0:00.

Firmware on the modem (TP-LINK MR6400) is updated. Modem is placed near the window and I double checked 4G LTE coverage in my area. According to Digi's coverage map, I have excellent signal connection where I live.

I haven't tried to move the modem around though so maybe I'll try that today.

Didn't you try getting a prepaid SIM beforehand and try out the download speed in your area?

The Huawei B618 is above my budget unfortunately. I didn't buy the TP Link one on random though. I followed the list of recommended modems in the Digi Infinite 150 main thread. However, I didn't buy a prepaid sim and try first. You're right that I should have.

That said, Digi Infinite 150 is literally the only viable option in this area. Either that or I shell out nearly 3K to get 20 Mbps fibre internet.

try locking it to use LTE-only.
1-bar LTE is better than full-bar 3G.

I heard and read many recommended the B618 exclusively as well to work with Infinite 150. Perhaps you need to look at your budget in the perspective of buying Huawei B618 vs the RM3k for 20mbps Raj.

Hey guys, quick update before I go to sleep. I moved my modem 2 feet to the right and now I can download at 3 MB/s. The speed isn't constant but way better than the measly 1 MB/s I was getting yesterday.

Will buy a socket board tomorrow so that I can move the modern right up to the window. 2 feet made a difference of 2 MB/s. 1 more feet might add 5 more megabits.

Before you say it, yes I'm dumb. I honestly didn't expect that huge of a difference 😅
