Hi there!

I was recently awarded first-class honours for my degree as I'm a final-year student and have completed all my subjects. I am now awaiting graduation next year (April 2020). Does anyone have any information on whether the PTPTN loan repayment exemption for first-class honour students still exists? All the information I see online is very confusing and blurry ever since the new government took over. I have so many questions.

Is this exemption still a thing? Is it only for a selected group of people now (B40? M40???) How will I know if I'm eligible? Who do I contact to ask? How to I apply to try my luck? When do I apply? Now or after I'm officially graduated?

I have worked hard and it will be pretty sad if this thing doesn't exist anymore hmm.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated! (:

If you graduated before 1 Jan 2019, then yes. Else, no more first class honour free conversion to scholarship anymore.

You may want to thank them people prior to you who don't want to settle their PTPTN despite having the ability to do so.

Reason also partly due to brain drain. The 1st Class honor goes to work overseas or in Singapore.....this mean Malaysia educate or pay the cost to groom a person 25 years old education....then Advance Country like Singapore get to use their brain at cheap cost...

To allow 1st Class....means in Malaysia, all sector must open to merit.....means, you try retain these smart young Malaysians to contribute to economy and work here. Else you educate them for nothing when they go to US, Singapore, Australia or even to China...then wasted.

Berita tahun 2012, scandal Najib songlap 1MDB belum terbang lagi.

If Najib used the songlap money and pay all PTPTN loan, maybe can even give 3 more rounds of free education.

Hi TS, I'm in same situation as you, also graduating next year but already finished my studies this December.

I just called PTPTN care line, and they say still got the waive exemption thingy, no need B40, so wait till the transcript out just follow the steps , fill up form as stated in their website!

Anyways congrats! I know it's a lot of work to get first class honours so you deserve a pat ! Hope it helps 🙂
