saw online selling ezcap/y&h hdmi capture card
does it work plug n play? or need alot of additional cables etc?

You won't be able to capture gameplay via HDMI as the PS3 does not disable HDCP.
You'll need to get a capture card that supports Component or composite cables..obviously composite is a shitty solution that nobody should use. |

You can get a chinese made HDMI splitter since almost all of them strip HDCP from the source and your ps3's HDMI signal will go through just fine.
