I dont know where to ask this so i resort here.. me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex once and i end up pregnant.. i know its not something to brag about but I don’t want to abort the baby..I’m muslim here in malaysia and my boyfriend is non muslim and he’s not malaysian.. if i were to give birth to the baby is the baby eligible for malaysian citizenship? The father is korean nationality and obviously not muslim so my question is do we have to get married first in order for the baby to be eligible to get malaysian citizenship?

yes. the child would be a malaysian, the father section would be empty, ur child will be 'bin Abdullah' in birth cert and in IC

Are you both planning to live in Malaysia or South Korea?

Not sure yet..because he’s actually a student here.. he will have to go back to south korea february next year.. but probably if i were to raise the baby maybe i will have to move south korea with him.. especially here for muslim they say child out of wedlock will face the stigma of “bin abdullah”.. in korea they dont have stupid shaming culture like this..

have you talked to him about it? will he marry you and take care of the children? Will you be able to take care of the children on your own?

I see.. dont malaysia have dual nationality as well? Because i saw somewhere dual nationality exists but i dont know if it applies to my current situation..

Why don't consider marrying in South Korea, and South Korean citizenship for your baby? Then later apply Malaysian PR for your baby

Currently if you give birth in Malaysia the baby will be Malaysian. If you give birth outside Malaysia, the baby won't get citizenship automatically. If you somehow plan to give birth in South Korea, you going have to check the law there. Worst case the baby don't have any citizenship, and that's a huge problem.

How many months is the pregnancy? If it's less than 3 months, and if you are willing, marry someone else immediately so the baby will inherit someone else name. If you are willing.

Nowadays can be name other than Abdullah.. Rahman etc.

Malaysia does not accept dual nationality. You either be a citizen of Malaysia or another country. Can't be both. If you are caught with dual citizenship... Your Malaysian citizenship will be revoked.

First thing first, have a serious conversation with your boyfriend first - work out a solid plan and next steps.

Personally, think parents from both sides will need to know and be involved as well as both of you are still pretty young.

Having a baby is a totally different kind of commitment (and a huge one). Hopefully, you and your boyfriend, with your respective families involved can work out a sound solution amicably. *fingers crossed

Don't give wrong advise. It was in the news the other day.. If child born outside of Malaysia by Malaysian women, you might have headache getting Malaysian citizenship

My advice, have the baby here. Even if you will marry him 1 day, I assume it will not be before your due date. I don't know the law in korea but I don't think it will easily grant citizenship out of wedding lock. Recheck again, have a talk with your bf. Not just make decision out of assumption.
If you delivered your baby outside of Malaysia, no automatic citizenship of Malaysia will be awarded. Have to apply, and don't know how long will be accepted.

Marry someone else? Not easy for someone to accept also.

1. You can keep your little “blip”, but.. he/she would get an Abdullah as his/last name. (Out of wed)

2. Easier to apply malaysian citizenships for your baby in the future if you give birth here(Out Of wed). Give birth overseas is not made of cupcakes and rainbow if you are not fully loaded, in legal relationships, on a legal visa.


3. Your baby won’t get dual citizenship. Choose one Either become malaysian citizen, or other country’s citizen, can’t be both, applied for all malaysian regardless what’s your status, even if you are a royal or minister’s daughter, Only One Malaysia! 👆🏻🙂


4. Without a wedding certificate, your baby can get Korean citizenship, would much easier if you give birth in korea, if you give birth in malaysia of course would be complicated.. the father needs to apply and do all the heavy duty paperworks then submit to the korean Embassy. Your baby’s original birth certificate would only filled by your name, without the father’s name if both of you are not married. The father needs to apply rayuan to court and usually Followed by paternity test. Once get korean citizenship, her/his Malay citizenship would be revoked. But remember, you might loose your child forever if after granted korean citizenship your boyfriend make U turn and don’t want to marry you. As your child is a korean National and no marriage certificate. If you choose to give birth in SK, please think what Visa you’ll apply to stay in South Korea without being kicked out right after or before gave birth because of overstay. Safer option is marry first and get a spouse visa.


5. If you planned to get married, better act fast.. as procedure to marrying a foreign citizen is quite complicated, especially for moslem.
