It is not life treatening bad, just don't want it to be a habit till older age. Some say might alter teeth orientation. For me I just don't like the smell that generated after.

I sapu cili on the thumb. Work like magic. Ahhahahaha.

Just kidding only. But I do give my daughter once when she was more than 6 month. Accidentally actually, handing her some food with my sambaled finger. Make weird face, but no tears. I'm impressed actually.

Your child just 'discover' the wonder of hand and is now exploring them. Soon she will discover her toes. Just make sure her hands don't touch any dirty surface before putting in her mouth. Or give her a teether, but you have to trial and error until you found a teether she likes. My son went through 5 teethers before liking his current one. But still slip his hands into his mouth frequently. I just make sure to frequently clean his hands.

My kid did not suck on thumb nor use pacifier.

But I wouldnt have an issue with her doing either, i read up on it and it seems pretty harmless.

Yes, its quite hard to get rid of the habit of using pacifier as they grow up. But at least it is more hygiene than sucking their fingers.

But it does not affect the growth of the teeth nor the arrangement of the teeth.
My elder and 2nd daughter used the pacifier when they were young. They have neat teeth arrangement. Where else my youngest son never used pacifier and his teeth arrangement is quite awful. And he has the habit of biting other kids during a scuffle <shake head>.
