Looking at it objectively, if what were presented are true to the letter, this is one of the best featured smartphones. I believe desirability for most if not all is very much dependent on the prices.

Everyone is install gms once get the phone.. Lol
We should just use hws to support huawei
*
By buying the phone is already a sign of support for Huawei. Installing GMS is a necessity for most because of the apps they need.

Buy the phone should support this too.. Lol

You buy a gadget to satisfy your needs and requirements of the device. And by selecting a specific brand is support enough for same.

Cant doubt that. No matter how good the wired earphones are, you can beat the convenience of going wireless. Especially when you are in cramped places like the trains or airplane.

Though I agree with you on the convenience but it does affect the battery, for obvious reason and that’s why I don’t use them often.

Please elaborate. Are you saying you only JUST sideloaded GMS and it’s working? Or you did that sometime ago and are not experiencing any glitch? TQ.

They are new owners who just got the phone and after installing GMS, they are experiencing "Device is not Play Protect certified" error message keep popping up on their phones. This is already a known issue and it seems like Google is trying to put a stop to new devices being sideloaded with GMS.
*
I know. I am asking him because he stated he has not problem.

i think only new phones got issue. mine, i did it in Feb 2020. no issue.
*
Yes, that’s what I want confirmed. Actually, to be more precise...not just new phones. Side loading GMS does not work now, on any phone.

Same like most of us here. Hopefully Google wont try to pull some stunts now by disabling ours.
Yup. I think its pretty much confirmed. I thought Google or rather the Americans are against Huawei only? I didn't know gms doesn't even work on other phones. Would custom roms be affected then?

Mate, this is a Huawei Mate 30 series thread. So, when I stated not just new phones but others, it is vis-a-vis this brand/model, which are not new as well. Trust this is clear... smile.gif

Hi bro, I transferred your question to the relevant thread smile.gif

Anyways, here are the answers: -

1. Waze - Installed via Petal Search. Works without problems.
2. WeChat - Sorry, I don't use WeChat, but it is available in Huawei's AppGallery, hence I'm assuming it works without issues
3. Starbucks - Installed via Petal Search, works as normal
4. Maxis - Installed via Huawei's AppGallery, works as normal
5. Grab - Installed via Petal Search, works but can't pinpoint a location on the map. I've used GrabPay and Grab Food (delivery to saved address) without any issues though.
6. Touch N Go (am assuming you mean the e-wallet app?) - Works as normal, installed via Huawei's AppGallery
7. Facebook - installed via AppGallery, also works as normal
8. YouTube - using Youtube Vanced as an alternative - no ads and has PIP mode without needing a paid subscription. Bliss!

For me so far, the two main apps I missed are CIMB Clicks and Air Selangor (to pay my water bills, hahahaha) - no options for those just yet.

Hope this helps.

Thanks mate. Yes, you are of tremendous help.

Besides looking at the other phones which for various reasons I am procrastinating buying, I now will definitely consider Huawei P40 Pro, a phone if not for the lack of GMS, I would have bought much earlier.

Cheers.

Actually to be realistic, it's actually never, Biden already made it clear that the trade war will continue with China

And even if Biden really decides to revoke the ban, I doubt Huawei would wanna get back GMS either, since they already invested a lot on HMS

If they were fooled once, I bet they wouldn't wanna get fooled again in the future

Harmony OS is already on track and it's obviously the path that Huawei is heading, because they have no reason to stay with their current stage of Android which is not even full fledged or keep dreaming that they would ever get back GMS, in the end users will suffer and they will also suffer a lot in the long run if they don't come up with a solution (and Harmony OS and HMS are their solutions for their future), they're lucky that people like some of us here are still willing to spend money on their products when the we're the one who need to do some hassle in order to try to get the usual experience that we need

That's why if one relies a lot on GMS, just stay away from this brand for the time being.

You have some valid points. However, Huawei is business savvy enough to know not to be egoistic. They took cognisance of the fact that without GMS, their sales have and will suffer. So, if given an opportunity to jump back on the bandwagon, they will. I believe that they would do it but meanwhile keep maturing HMS until such time that it is on par or perhaps even better than GMS.

But right you are. It would not be in the very near future given what the President elect of USA has said.
