When any of my friend ask me how to buy meat, my answer is real simple.
Go Tesco and see their meat, remember the color and how it looks like. Never buy meat that looks like that.
Giant to me is below average, acceptable as last minute substitution when you can't find meat else where. Jaya and Village, each branch has different quality. You gotta buy it, wash and try to sniff if there is any funny weird smell. Cook it with plain water and see if it taste one kind, if yes, don't buy from them in future.
Look for meat shop that provides mincing service. The shop near to my housing does that, i'm not sure if that's common but they do that. After I buy meat from them, the staff will ask if you want to cut or mince.
I will never buy meat from Tesco, Giant nor NSK, Econsave is out of the list, they have no sense of hygen, everywhere is air busuk, the whole place smell busuk.
I will also never buy pre-minced meat as I do not know which part of meat they use, what they have mixed it, how the original meat condition looks like.
Last is pasar besar but you gotta get there early since their chicken is not placed in a fridge, you don't want to leave your raw meat under room temperature for too long (5 to 60 Celsius is danger zone)

When you bring them to day light source, you'll surprised
