I've recently moved to KL. Being new here, i still don't quite know where everything is. I'm planning on meal prepping during the weekends for lunch and dinners on weekdays to shed some extra kilos.

I'm looking for:-

Mince chicken - i've seen some frozen minced chicken for sale in stores like Giant or Tesco, but the fat content is quite high. So i'm looking for mince chicken made from chicken breast or chicken fillets, doesn't matter if its fresh or frozen. Can't afford the super premium stuff either.

Mince beef - Same as the chicken. Seen frozen mince beef but fat content was high. Can't really afford the aussie beefs too.

I pretty much am restricted to public transport in kl. So anywhere accessible with lrt, mrt, ktm, brt will be fine.

Thank you in advance

KL is a wide area, so when you omit which area in KL that is near you, then the suggestions will be general.

I hear NSK is competitive in fresh grocery but there are no NSK or Econsave near me. You can compare prices between Giant and Tesco, althought I believe Tesco would be more competitive because they use central distribution which means their fresh produce is not as fresh as Giant.

Just a word of caution, minced meat is not better than actual meat but they can be cheaper, which is not good because health is vital.

Village grocer has lean minced beef.. but i cant recall whether they have lean minced chicken or not. Why not just buy chiken breast and dice it nicely.

When any of my friend ask me how to buy meat, my answer is real simple.
Go Tesco and see their meat, remember the color and how it looks like. Never buy meat that looks like that.

Giant to me is below average, acceptable as last minute substitution when you can't find meat else where. Jaya and Village, each branch has different quality. You gotta buy it, wash and try to sniff if there is any funny weird smell. Cook it with plain water and see if it taste one kind, if yes, don't buy from them in future.

Look for meat shop that provides mincing service. The shop near to my housing does that, i'm not sure if that's common but they do that. After I buy meat from them, the staff will ask if you want to cut or mince.

I will never buy meat from Tesco, Giant nor NSK, Econsave is out of the list, they have no sense of hygen, everywhere is air busuk, the whole place smell busuk.
I will also never buy pre-minced meat as I do not know which part of meat they use, what they have mixed it, how the original meat condition looks like.

Last is pasar besar but you gotta get there early since their chicken is not placed in a fridge, you don't want to leave your raw meat under room temperature for too long (5 to 60 Celsius is danger zone)

One trick, when you shop meat in hypermarket, try bring the meat to bright cold-white light source to see the "real" color, the meat under their fridge with slight purple-ish lighting tend to look much nicer. When you bring them to day light source, you'll surprised rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Just want to share. I bought Ramly Chicken breast at Bdr Tun Razak outlet, 2KG at RM20. Really cheap.

Before this been purchase at Jaya Grocer.

Eating chicken breast everyday for dinner & supper now i got boring already. Most of the time i cook grill like Nando's style with their souce. Sometime i do with BBQ souce, lemon & herbs.
