Hi,

I am getting the keys to my new house next week hence already starting to source for items.
For wardrobe I was planning to do pole system as I thought it would be cheaper and less bulky compared to a traditional wooden wardrobe.

The prices for a wardrobe costs between 3-5k.
However the prices for a pole system costs RM7-8k from the 2 companies that quoted me.
That is quite significantly higher and both were without sliding door (which I think is a must otherwise it'll be dusty).

Now why I think it would be cheaper was because it consists of a few pole, hanging rods and planks for folded clothes. Much less items compared to a wooden wardrobe.
But since that the prices are much more expensive I don't think I would want to proceed.

Is it possible to DIY this? Buy the pole, rods and planks myself. Either custom made from factories or sourcing them from China?
I tried googling it but couldn't find anyone DIYing it.

the shelves and poles are fairly easy to install but if you want the doors like in your picture then DIY would be very difficult

you can find cheaper pole system at http://ginmit.com

instead of pole system, you can also take a look at Ikea's Algot system which is similar

Hi thanks for the input. Any idea where I can find the poles and shelves?
I found Ginmit a few days ago, still waiting for their reply.

Pole system can directly source from Taobao if you want cheaper alternative, just give them the size and the layout you want, make sure you can communicate in mandarin with their people

A lot of furniture in Malaysia is overpriced, if you want cheap you DIY

Hi. Yes. After getting multiple quotations for a wardrobe ranging from RM5.5k to 8+k it really got me annoyed. How can a 200cm x 200cm wardrobe cost more than a bigger kitchen cabinet (if melamin) with quartz counter top mind you?!

And some more quotations on pole system went as high as 12k! without a door bangwall.gif

I would like to DIY the pole system but I don't know where to get the drawers though. And I will need to source the aluminium materials. I will also need to get someone to do the door as I don't want to leave it open as it will get dusty. BUt I am pretty confident it will be below 3k.

The other option is to go for steel pole as that is easily available but needs welding though. Not sure if that is a great option. It is cheap but maybe not suitable for a wardrobe.
