Falken Japan's flagship UHP launched in 2016, Stamford Tyres brought it in last year in 2018. Not that many places selling it. I bought 2 fronts earlier this year, and just Saturday 7th September 2019 got 2 rears. Price is ~40% cheaper than Pilot Sport 4.

My quick review, original tyres were Pirelli P7 runflats, after changing the fronts, the steering is very light -- runflats are heavier. Responsive and sharp. Tracks well. Steering response is better than P7, but not the best I've experienced. So far dry and wet performance is better than P7, but have yet to push it because my rears were P7. Now that all fours are FK510, this weekend will be going on the North South Highway, will see how it goes.

NVH better than runflats.

Previous tyres I've used or still in use:
Goodyear NCT5 (hahaha omg throw it away please)
Michelin Pilot Preceda 2
Goodyear Revspec RS02 (shit in the wet)
Michelin Pilot Sport 3
Goodyear Eagle F1 D5 (shit quality for me, 2 out of 4 tyres kaput)
Kumho Ecsta KU31
Bridgestone RE003 (dry very good, I feel its better than PS3, wet lose to F1 D5 & PS3, no confident in the wet)
Kumho Ecsta PS31 (car parked more than driven...don't know, first impression noisy)

TL;DR Got money just buy the PS4 or PS4S. this is the poor man's PS4

What's your size and how much you got them & where? I'm planning to ditch my run flats and heard a lot of good reviews about this tyre. Worth considering.

But not sure if beneficial for my driving style or not. 90% stucked in traffic and light footer.

225/45 R18 @ RM420 for 2 units with balancing and install at Ching Tyre in Setapak.

255/40 R18 @ RM670 for 2 units with balancing and install at Bridgestone Apex Tyre in Sunway.

For my driving style, wet performance is most important. I also drive a lot of city traffic, about 80%. Occasionally road frees up I’ll have some fun. Which is why I decided against PS4 as averagely it costs about 40% more.

If you’re really pure city and no fun driving, you can get the Hankook v12 evo2. For my size it’s cheaper than the FK510.

Further observations: I think the sidewalls are quite stiff. Of course the run flats are even more so, but for normal tyres this is definitely stiff. NVH it beats runflats but against normal tyres I wouldn’t call it comfort.

Just curious, why is wet performance important for you other than the risk of aquaplaning?

Yeah I was eyeing for the Hankook v12e2 too but most of the tyre shops don't carry 225/50R17 size unfortunately, still in the midst of googling around.

I'm more into comfort oriented tyres since I have a baby arriving and she'll be seated in the backseat but since you mentioned the FK510 is not strong in NVH I think it's something to consider upon during my tyre shopping.

Thanks for the input bro.

Aquaplaning, emergency manoeuvres. I drive at the same legal speed, regardless rain or shine, so the tyres must be up to par. And I take corners at quite high speeds (relative to aunties), so if I want to maintain almost the same speed during dry, then the tyres got to be up to the mark in the wet. Because I lazy to brake, I prefer driving smoothly. For the exact same make and model, other owners change brake pads twice as fast as I do.

To be fair, let me observe the FK510. I did not check the tyre pressure yet since installing it on Saturday. Sending it for alignment and road force balancing today or tomorrow.

That being said, you just get the Hankook and save some money icon_idea.gif

What is the thread ware of these fk510? Currently im using PS4 which is so far good ince the day it was fitted. Almost 3years already. Now planning to go for cheaper alternative as my driving is mostly slow to medium. Only a short time highspeed. So feel ps4 abit wasted with the high cost they are selling. Im looking for 225 45 R18

Wow quick reply. The PS4 on the clock is about 55k++with front & rear rotation once since if i can recal last fitted at 40k mileage. Thread still has about 20%-30%. Surprisingly it still grips well on wet.

Wow the use not too bad. I hope the FK510 can last that long then super value for money.

I noticed the price has gone up too, pricing is very close to PS4S for my size. Will get PS4S next round if pricing maintain or go up further.

You guys are talking about the price on Mudah? That seller jack up the price. I bought my rears from a different seller. RM670 vs RM720 by the mudah seller.

Yea i bought from him on Feb 2019, price was good that time. Now when i check back, price has gone up. It is now rm400 different compare to PS4S, no brainer to go for FK510 already...

Mind share your seller? If price is good, i will go for another set with FK510, don't think my set can last until 2020.

Bridgestone Apex Tyre @ Sunway. Special order. I believe if shop around can find better deals. I bought here because convenient for me at that time.

Weekend North South Highway, roads were damp. Performance is good.

110km/h I don't hear the tyre noise, hear more wind noise.

So far I'm happy.

What car do you used it on?

I see on mudah 255/35/19 is rm 860. Do you think i can get it cheaper at the place where you bought yours?

Im in kelantan so its hard to survey around for tires. Here they jack up the price of course.

Shop name there what... call yourself.
I call for you, people say it’s my shop and I start this thread to promote my own shop...

Wet performance and NVH are good, slightly let down on steering response.

I even tracked at sepang with this, so far so good  biggrin.gif

The only question left is the mileage life on these. PS4 seem to go >50k km for the same make and model as mine.. if I can get almost the same, I’ll stick to FK510z

Did emergency braking, ABS kicked in, no squeal no skid no drama. Stopped with plenty of distance from the car in front.

Nice.

What happened to this tyre? Totally vanished from mudah listing now, no more selling in our market? Even the relatively new re004 already have quite some listing....

I think the distributor for Falken is just sleeping. Not that many dealers selling it, not much promotion.

What's the average price of FK510 for 215/55/17?
Can't seem to find it on muda, shope or even laz.
Is it unavailable?

Call Apex tyre in Sunway. They carry it. But not sure if it comes with 55 profile.

Roughly 30000km already on these tires. Still going strong. Going for the 3rd alignment and balancing soon.

It’s still consistent. Heavy rain lately so got to be careful with the puddles.

Went to my usual tyre shop. My rears were gone, well worn and one side had damage -- this is not a fault with the tyre, but external damage that can happen to any tyre. My fronts were still good, shoulder wear due to poor alignment previously but not severe. I could continue using it, but I had to change the rear.

Thought about taking Falken FK510 again and just replace the rear pair, but backside itchy and I have been driving more spirited lately. So decided to go for PS4 for all 4 corners.

PS4 costs ~40% more than the FK510 for all 4 corners. Immediately, I noticed that the PS4 is more responsive in the dry, the FK510 is not slow, but the PS4 is just more responsive to steering input. And, on the same road, same tyre pressure, PS4 feels harsher -- I believe this is due to stiffer sidewalls.

Bear in mind I came from P7 RFT -> FK510 -> PS4. The FK510 was a definite improvement from the P7 in all ways and especially NVH because its not a RFT. The PS4 first impression is quicker/more direct steering response relative to the FK510.

Is the PS4 worth 40% more? I don't know, need to drive in the wet to confirm.
But based on dry performance alone, my answer is no, especially if you ferry people using your car, the FK510, despite "less" responsive, is not poor, and its not as stiff as the PS4.

I still think FK510 is a very good tyre for the price. But I wonder how does Sime Tyre Continental MC6 compares to the FK510.

Should've tried the F1SS or F1S. F1SS should be a bit more expensive but F1S is like FK510 prices or even cheaper.

No 255/40 R18 for my rears

The F1SS more expensive than PS4? I don't want to spend more than PS4 lol.

thanks for this feedback which i share tested my friend's car (same model as mine) on FK510 while i am on PS4.

Cool. Now I wonder how long the PS4 lasts, and if it lasts longer then it may be worth the premium. Wear tests put it slightly behind FK510.

QUOTE(6UE5T @ Dec 9 2020, 10:01 AM)
Oh ya, doesn't have.
F1SS actually not sure how much, haven't checked around,  just a hunch it might be more expensive.
*
Probably, according to tire rack the F1SS tread wear is 240 versus 320 on the PS4. No third party test on the wear yet. Of course the rating can't be compared across. I'll most likely go for MC6 after this PS4.

As per tyre review UK, fk510 win PS4 in wet slightly, if your Goodyear better than fk510 in wet, then you no need try PS4.
*
I think it may be because FK510 feels less adept in the wet when it is near end of life. At least that’s my experience.

I don’t think PS4 is any more amazing than FK510 in the wet. My impressions still hold, the PS4 is sharper in steering response than the FK510, and have a better feel of the road, more direct.

That being said, I don’t think it’s worth the premium. But let’s see how many KMs I can do on the PS4. Then will know if the FK510 is the true value king.

~33k average. Reason being I swapped the fronts first, then the rear. It still had some life to it when I changed, but one of the tyres were damaged so I just changed all four.

why la this tyre on my car size, 235/45/18 sold pricier than a PS4? I ask almost like 4 shops, all quoted same or higher price than a ps4
*
Maybe cause it’s uncommon size?
It’s definitely not better than PS4

Note: I went from FK510 to PS4. I still stand by my recommendation. It is a good choice if you don’t want to spend more.
