This happen when i am hand itchy wanna recable Stax cable on my KSC75. and i carelessly wipe the voice coil with my soldering iron. hence the voice coil is detached from the terminal.. and it's burned..

therefore, i decieded to reattach the voice coil by opening it.

user posted image
All things that i opened, including KSC75, Stax SR-X, Aego 2 Satelite driver.

user posted image
Stax SR-X driver, the round things is membrane, while the gold colour places is stator.

user posted image
Tachikoma's Aego 2 Driver
Magnet detached, voice coil dented.

user posted image
Front view of Satelite, note that AEGO M no longer using this KOI audio's driver.
it's triangle eh.. =P
flex.gif flex.gif flex.gif

HERE COMES THE KSC75
user posted image
Membrane, and the internal (magnet & Spider) of the driver.

user posted image
Heck it's actually transparent..

user posted image
It's still in perfect form (i didn't dent it) while i take it out.

user posted image
Impedance test on the driver itself..
my multimeter has an error or +0.3 ohm
so the driver voice coil impedance is 58.3 ohm to be exact.
however, i assume that the terminal parts does provide some impedance to make it 60 ohm in total.

user posted image
Successfully attached the voice coil back to the terminal.

user posted image
Front look of the membrane after reattach back to the spider (housing)

Good things is after fixing the voice coil. the sound signature doesn't change at all. no distortion i can hear even amp it loud, really loud.
and it's still kicking hard on my head now.. nice.. =P tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif
so hope this will let ppl know what is actually inside a KSC75. =)
enjoy pictures.. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Yours.. hahaha
that day no sound because i didn't connect it properlly.
and they are in a rush to going back. so i give u my spare driver. =)

and then i was hand itchy wanna put stax cable on it.. and i cough heavily while i solder.. and viola.. stax cable is connected, but not the voice coil. lol

so now.. no more re-cabling until i fully recover...
ur driver died twice (not twice actually, first time is careless mistake by not connecting it properly, which there's a tiny wire from the ground channel accidentally touched the signal channel. so sending everything back to ground, no sound. haha) . and it's kick hard on my head now.
wait u come, i let u test, see u can notice which side i repair by listening it or not..
but so far, myself and several of my audiophile friend cannot do that. =P

i dun think theres really much of a difference la, unless u didnt put them back properly, it would probably be the same. i might need some 3.5mm to 3.5mm cables from you some time soon, oh ya, and my hp890 plug also cacat.. might need some plugs as well.

u really haf much time eh, hows the pimeta parts of yours ler?

BTW, impedance is real+imaginary resistance in freuqency domain, measuring via multimeter alone do not suffice.

wah lau blink.gif you the l33t lar! (no pun intended). Even I dun have the ballz to mess with voice coil...well actually I have no ballz to actually disassemble the whole driver since it is a very delicate thing and the process calls for significant amount of patience (what I don't have) and precision (although I have this laugh.gif). notworthy.gif

The soldering point has lots of craps eh...go pharmacy and pick up some 99% alcohol and clean it with a Q tip, and it'd look as good as new.

I can't do that, once I work on something I'd want to get it done the same day or I'll feel very uneasy and suffer from insomnia. sweat.gif which is why multiple stage process thingy is not quite my thing.

i know this is crazy.

akabane gaved me a MX300 which one side of the earphone has extremely low volume, and distorts when play.
therefore, i open it up..

user posted image
the interior of MX300

user posted image
and i found out that the problems is due to 3 factor.
1. the membrane is poked in, i don't know how they actually do this. perhaps heat.
2. voice coil is not align properly to magnet, hence the voice coil is actually touching magnet, and cannot move freely. and causing a lot of distortion, low volume.
3. the voice coil contact point to soldering place is oxidized.

user posted image
after carefully poke out and reshape the membrane. here it goes.. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
=P according to sennheiser, the membrane is 5nm thick. blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif
user posted image
and i carefully pull out the voice coil... thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

user posted image
reattach the membrane and voice coil back in to the spider and magnet.

user posted image
another look of it. =)
and it's alive and kicking in my ear now. =P

it's a learning process.
i am actually trying to repair some damaged headphone given by fren. however, i still needs more hands on "practical" before i actually operate on that headphone. i need to replace membrane of it.
however, even though MX300 is cheap. i appriciate it. and i don't like see any headphone within my hand is malfunction.

anyway. gtg to airport now.
see ya all around 29th.

wish me good luck, and have a successful trip. so that i don't have to rush other things when i come back. hence more time on can be spend on forum activities like surfing and gathering laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif . lol

Guys, i just meet up with Bro PCWORK and i tested his MX300 what i can say you need a amp to amped it but the SQ is very real and the soundstage is wider than i thought. similiarity is like a ksc75 non recable version. i may say the sound in between yuin pk3 this mx300 more wider soundstage. Good to have a listen/audition on it. Good Job PC BRO.......... thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

the yuin pk3 is on my hand now.
haha
bass of yuin pk3 is more, has more quantity. but both same deep (same quality, same texture) i think
bass of pk3 is more fun.
but this mx300 is more balance on mid,. which from bass to mid it seems quite smooth. and mid on mx300 is really good after recable. =P

and akabane is right, the sound stage is really wide for an earbud. =P
positioning (stereo image projection) is quite well done by this recabled mx300.. =P

hehe
guess what is this?

it's PK3

due to the cable is stiff, (akabane, what else stiff ah??) so i take the opportunity to open it up. however, the whole process is PITA
as yuin glue the earphone with somethings as strong as ELEPHANT GLUE....
user posted image

after more than half an hours i dissolve the glue, i finally take it out.
user posted image

the sponge inside is very tidily fixed..
user posted image

user posted image
but due to the glue stick too hard, and the casing of the earphone is rather soft, on process open it up, i leaved a small scar at the earphone, though small but visible
though i already extremely careful and gentle on this one. however, i can't avoid that
i think the next one i do, i can minimize the scar.

another view
user posted image

another view again.
user posted image

the scratch is not visible from front..
user posted image

now maybe i will figure out what cable will match yuin the most. =P

Both in-ear headphone, one Senheisser, another is AudioTechnica (suspect is imitate).

The thin wire from the coil of the driver is disconnected from the headphone cable. very serious injury i think.

one more faulty Apacer player, one channel no sound the other one got sound.

When will u leave serdang?

after hours of operation, i finally opened up the YUIN PK1 WITHOUT ANY visible scratch.. hehehehe
phew.....

see the white / blue glue, that's is as strong as elephant glue... even more stronger as it is not "crunchy." it stick really strong, yet slightly elastic.. some more the plastic of PK1 is seriously soft.. user are advised not to perform this on ur own. do it at ur own risk.

now is the easy part to recable it and snap it back using some UHU glue. next time this particular pk1 is much easier to open back by UHU glue. =)

Bro scottie, i think i can send ur Sony and this Yuin to u by next monday.
this friday i have exam though (11th)

finally got my 'buds back & wanna offer my thxs in acknowledging the great work PCWORK did in recabling my Yuin & Sony earbuds. the workmanship is almost perfect to the effect that my 15yrs old Sonys look, feel & perform as new. excepting cable choices (or lackof rather which cant be attributed to bro PCWORK but more bcos a lack of local sources) there cant be any complaints.

on the SQ side, both 'buds exhibits a slight upper freq brightness (perhaps even harshness) while the bottom-end wasnt as extended nor defined as i previously recalled. this i attribute to the new cable needing some cooking time. all in all, im stoked & super pleased. thxs again bro PCWORK. anyone needing an earbud (or other cans for that matter) recable & can supply his/her own cable wont find a better craftsman than PCWORK rclxms.gif nod.gif thumbup.gif

ps:to anyone owning old Sony earbuds, dont throw them away but instead have it recabled by PCWORK. its almost as good as the Yuin PK1- bliv it or not wink.gif

glad u enjoy them. ur Pk1 is easily can be opened by next time (which i don't hope it happen) as i use UHU gum to glue it, instead of elephant glue.
so ur pk1 doesn't have to gone trough all the difficult part to recable by next time. just open it up and solder.

ur Sony is a big monster,, big as it's diameter is 16.5mm
that's the biggest i ever seen,. while pk1 only has diameter of 13.3 mm.
compare that.. eh
it's like comparing a 5.25 inch woofer VS 6.5 inch woofer.
lol

i indeed has several old old school sony earphone which i bought and seal in vacuum pack at 1998 years. and it's well keep until now. the sound can indeed fight with yuin pk3, and some extend to pk1.
but. it's not available anymore. current sony all were quite bad imho.

What i hear frm your old sony earbud is better far frm current earbud produce by sony. Nowdays sony even a high price not even a upto the expectation.

I think maybe around 3-4 months later my yuin pk3 need you to recable it. Currently is stiff, As i aware my pk1 is different cable frm pk3, means the pk1 i get is a latest version where they already retify the stiffness of the cable.,

Anyway i really enjoy daily when i go to work.

Bro PCWORK im stoked to say that after a coupla days of 24/7 cooking, the high-end tizzzzz exhibited initially is gone or substantially toned down at the very least. either that or its a bad case of psychoacoustics unsure.gif blush.gif

on another great note (pardon the pun wink.gif its crystal clear to me that the Koss cable pawns the ori Yuin cable. as of now & subject to my superhuman powers of TotalRecall (again...pardon the pun laugh.gif ), the Koss-cabled PK1s are not only cleaner with greater clarity & detail, imaging has improve with a lazer-like precision instead of the blob it was. all in all- 2thumbs up for bro PCWORK thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

bro Akabane, if bro PCWORK is amenable to recabling your PK3, i highly recommend u to run (dont walk la) to shove it him. if not, perhaps a note declaring your everlasting love mite move bro PCWORK to action - otherwise beg, cajole or threaten! u wont regret it...regardless of the ori Yuin cable (or other unspecified parts brows.gif ) stiffening or not. the Koss is a better cable thumbup.gif .

as for my ancient Sonys (MDR E805 for the curious need2knows) with the bigger drivers, it still isnt a match for my PK1s. while both has similiar bass quantity, a well driven PK1 triumphs over the Sonys in bass quality, is fuller & smoother across the range with better imaging & perhaps superior micro-info retrieval. the preceding statements is only true with the CAVEAT being a well-driven PK1 (while the Sonys have no such requirement although there were improvements when amped). all in all & honest be told, i wouldnt be too disappointed if i only had the Sonys to accompany me at beddie-bye time.

me thinks similiar to PCWORKs 10yrs old MX500, my old Sonys sound grand not so much cos of burn-in but more bcos these items (& alot of other things for that matter) are simply better made - both in materials & workmanship. for 1, im quite positive that both these old Sonys & MX500s arent of the made-in-china variety. nothing personal against China made products but its not exactly TopSecret that alot of those products leaves alot to be desired. just my 2cents ofcos. thxs again bro PCWORK for the greatjob rclxms.gif
