If i recall, warranty on iPhone is not international, it's unspoken rule, they could refuse fulfilling the warranty if wanted too.

In general, US handset has CDMA and GSM, i think you want to get the GSM set with unlock and sim free.

Depend on where you get the phone, there's sale tax involved with US purchase. For instance, NYC is ~8.875%, California ~7.25 while Delaware is zero. It's District based, not just state. You have to pay tax! 

With tax in the mix, it's actually cheaper buying in Japan than in USA because Japan's tax exemption applied for visitor. U get to save the 8% tax, i think the new tax now is 10%.   

If you ends up paying 8% tax, i rather buy in Malaysia than USA. Couple hundred RM ain't worth the saving with risk of losing warranty.

Apple products are worth buying in USA if you can hunt for discount, you could get up to 500 USD on those Mac products in most retail/online store while we don't get any in Malaysia and most apple devices come with international warranty - except iphone (i think)

Alright. Good explanation there. I guess the only downside for Jap sets are those who are into voyeurism cant take upskirt photos because their shutter sound cant be turned off no matter what.
