Looks like bokeh effect. This is characteristics of the lense they use / depth of field.

Iphone camera was never good and it is trying to compensate with software application adjustment.

Regretted of upgrading. iPhone x was better. Can't seem to be able to take a "clearer pic"

The pictures you shown are common image artifacts, not just exhibit on phones but modern day pro camera as well. An excessive noise removing processing in dark area on images taken with high ISO setting would give you that painting, plastic look. Most visible on images taken in bad lighting condition. It been there for decade, even the best camera with top tier sensor cost xxx times more than the iPhone has the same faith. So no, i doubt the new iPhone will improve much, may be iPhone 20 or 30. who knows.

I'm sure he still had design input into these iPhones. And Apple did say they will use Ive's company for design of future products too

I think that's the whole point of "Deep Fusion" they teased during the keynote that is coming in a software update later this year - basically some advanced stacking algorithm to sharpen details and clarity.

The picture in the keynote demonstrated extra sharp details on the fur of the man's sweater (Link), but otherwise not much is known about the feature...

My iPhone x was ok. I did some research all of which said xs has this pro

I still prefer gold. Think this i11 gold is so lovely.
