it's hard to make a general list. everyone has different taste of audio signature. some prefer samsung, some sony, some cowon and while some apple(with mod)

if u want a list of (popular) mp3 player, head to cnet for it.

sony A820? i guess u either in US or Japan. if Japan, go for P2 since A820 japanese model still tied to sonicstage IIRC. else both players are good. among the best sounding flash player. dont forget cowon D2 too.

D2 and P2 are both touchscreen.

P2 selling rm8xx here. A820 no sure, if not mistaken, not even launched yet here

sony has good sound but not very good. they have tweaked the sound of their played to sound nice. usually more bass. samsung and cowon are more neutral.

P2 also support bluetooth but imho, stick with wired earphone for best audio quality. ditch the stock earphone and get a better one to justify ur future player

it depend on ur earphone too but generally stock ipod sound not really great. if storage is high priority, go for zune80 instead.

look at sony, samsung and meizu brands. all those are great sounding and can fulfill ur needs.

Clip is highly regarded for their good SQ and durability. nice choice

1. Sony doesnt support loseless.

2. Sony dap doesnt have high power output. SE530 is 37 Ohms, still consider low impedance. try beyer 250 Ohms and it will make the player sound mute. Sony dap is 'famous' for their low power output.

Long battery life?

try iAudio 7, rated 60 hours MP3 or 10 hours video.

second close is cowon D2, 52 hours MP3 or 10 hours video.

new gen of ipod SQ are on par with the best. they are using Cirrus Logic DAC, not those cheap Wolfson DAC. this Wolfson chip used in iPod are not the same as those better one used in Meizu/Cowon.

if u want iPod, get 4G Nano, 2G Touch or 120GB Classic. all these are equipped with newer DAC.

imho, it's not the legal issue thats matter. it's common sense. do u wanna risk your life just because u wanna listen to music?

why dont u feed the music from your DAP into your car audio via LineIn?

ipod = itunes dependence.

if u can live with itunes, then it's ok. for me, Drag N Drop is the way.

all previous iPod sound crap to ok without iMod. current newest gen (4G nano, 2G touch) sound really good according to head-fi (<- fanboy infested site). try 4G nano if u want.

but rm300 cant get u any new ipod, even 4GB out of reach unless u want shuffle.

P3 currently only available from HK if not mistaken. Quite expensive too.
