Opps, had been refreshed!!??

yesterday i post here to ask what is the difference between Edifier s5.1 and s5.1m.

i juz knw tht the main difference is the size, RMS and of course the price. Besides these, is there any difference in sound quality?

The price difference is about RM100, so which one is more worthy to get?

Thx for your help.

M3300 SQ is quite not bad for music at the price RM230. if u can increase a bit your budget then try to get S2.1M RM399, really good SQ. the tweeter look like better quality one

yea.. what i can say is M3300 provide "adequate" bass for movie also, but if u want more deep bass and good SQ also there is no way to get such thing at this price range. positioning is very significant too, i saw most of the shop put M3300 at the rack doh.gif hence, the bass can't reflect from a solid surface. that's why ppl test over there then conclude M3300 not enough bass. subwoofer need to be put on the floor then only feel the bass

i will take M3300 over VS4121 any time due to better satelite SQ and well controlled bass. but whether which one is nicer u should try it by yourself because my personal preference might different with your preference, same to others.

Is there any difference compared to a 4 speaker/satellite system?

Very funny..haha, and not funny also...the reason you want 5.1 is surround if only two speaker, how you get that surround...if you want two speaker only then get a 2.1...Why waste money... biggrin.gif But I saw a sony brand home theater...DAV-FXG9K...is a 5.1 but can put it in two speaker or put it to 4 speaker...price??? Rm2600... tongue.gif
QUOTE(killdavid @ Jul 6 2007, 06:42 PM)
A very happy M3300 user here. Its the best in its class, that is the <RM250 bracket. Of course some of the gurus will say it is still lacking in this dept and that but come on lah ....its only RM239 don't compare with more expensive ones lah. Some will say M4300 is better, still both are strong products from Edifier.
*
A bit agree with you but I hear M3300 treble is not bad...If for my music totally out for me....R401 bass seems better but discountinue, so can't recommend to you...luckily I get one b4 discountinue...I hope he can choose which suits him...different people different taste....can't tell with words for good quality speaker, test it to believe it...hehe tongue.gif

Dude, do some research next time.
The first letter (e.g. 5.1) means the satellite units. The next one (e.g. 5.1) means the woofer unit.

Hi everyone,

Currently I am looking for a speaker to use at my workplace (desk). I am leaning towards 2.0 speakers. Budget is rm250-rm300. Mainly using my speakers for listening to music (mp3) and radio (online). Gaming is out of the question since I am not supposed to play games when I work. Movies, well I might when I have no work. So bottomline 95% music.

I went to a shop at BJ Complex (Penang), the salesman quote me RM180 for M3300 cause its a display unit. Do you think its adviseable to buy 2.1 compare to 2.0? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Regards.

a good sounding 2.0 usually is bookshelf size speakers, but it usually advised to put it on speaker stand because of two reason: the side is bigger thus it might take space in your table and the woofer in 2.0 is responsible to produce the bass so u need to put on speaker stand for better sq and wider separation. a good 2.0 is never need a sub woofer to do the bass job, they even can have better bass than those with sub woofer.

but some ppl might not prefer on this way, they want something smaller side speaker. hence, satellite speaker come in. satellite speakers are small enough to fit in your table but it is too small, not able do the job in bass, so it need a sub woofer to assist in the bass part, this is the idea of 2.1.

so 2.1 u was eying on M3300, for 2.0 u can have a look on R1900T3. for me i always prefer 2.0 for music(except aego m tongue.gif ), 5.1 for movie.

one thing bout display/demo speakers, never ever ever buy them unless you really know the shop owner a lot.a demo speaker went through additional wear and tear than the rest.they are runnning 12 hours straight usually, running at a volume higher than usual hearing level and certain speakers which dont have protection or cover for the drivers and tweeter is also subjected to more damage.

conclusion,i highly advise NOT TO BUY DEMO SET.

well,if you want a speaker that wont disturb others while playing, maybe you should check out the MP230,its a highly portable mini speaker.

hmmm, personally i prefer Edifier S2.1M more than over Edifier C2,its not my liking tongue.gif .if remote is a must, maybe can try Edifier M3310,but i prefer Edifier M3400 hooked with the TV.much more easier to work around with its RCA input.

2nd thing,if you are using it mostly with astro,go for direct connection instead of going through the TV,its much more better to me.

xbox 360?check out if your cable support up to 5.1 channel or not.if its not, consider changing it to the 5.1 cable and get a R501 MK2 for surround sound gaming and Halo series will never be the same again,if its only 2.1 and you dont plan to change, try the speakers that are more towards powerful bass.any of the below is great improvement from the normal TV speaker.

cheap -->expensive
Edifier M3400,Edifier S2.1M,Altec MX5021

then maybe you can consider edifier M2300???though slighty more expensive than M1310,but its a great improvement overall.somemore it fits your budget perfectly.with much more powerful bass,i think its better to pair M2300 up with the 360.

remember to test it out 1st.trust your ears most

i think u better don't get creative although the sound quality is good, go to their forum u will know the number of returning S750 and G500 set to Creative for repair. most of them just dead after use 2 month only. this is the example of user review, although they give very high score on the sound quality part => http://www.pcworld.com/product/userreviews...serreviews.html

Hehe, yeah that's truly a let down for creative's speaker.. because some fo them they are using the BASH amp and it produces a lot of heat.. or maybe it's because of the electricity that blow the cap.. but actually the problem isn't that serious too..

We have some sifu here to repair them too bcos normally it's bcos of the blown cap, if some channel doesn't produce any sound, it's 90% caused by the loosen cable inside the amp (they have cables for every channel to connect to the amp). Just open it, and tighten the cable, or fix their position by some UHU gum or what.. But still, not many ppl are willing to open up the amp unit as it's a bit risky (void warranty? im not sure hehe)..

Anyway, it's still a let down point sad.gif

Damn clear? Without a soundcard it's like putting a cloth in front of a speaker, do you understand how it will sound like? A sound card will improve it but then, M3300 is still clearer.
I have to agree VS4121 is for trance music and movies, not for musics.

no offence, but u certainly are the 1st one i have seen in lyn using "damn clear" to describe VS4121 laugh.gif

no doubts, i have tested too many times on VS4121, fren's unit and lowyat plaza also. my fren's unit is the 1st batch oh, heard that altec speaker always the best at 1st batch, the later batch will start cut cost on material. i have the same feeling with walabies, don't you feel the way of VS4121 sound like taking a cloth cover the speaker? have u notice the mid-range driver are facing the table? such a design how to sound clear? u can try let the speaker satelite lie down let the mid range facing u then u will find it actually sounds better than normal... lolz this is solely the satelite problem, the subwoofer part if u compare it with atp3 u will find that atp3 have more accurate bass, VS4121 bass is somehow overwhelming the mid and high frequency sound hence it sounds blur in general, unless u turn the bass off then it may clearer but how can we stick with speaker that no bass? biggrin.gif

Well, another thing was very important is the soundcard like Pcwork mention before...If you get a very good soundcard it may even sounds better like Hi-fi...and somehow why he use the word DAMN CLEAR? rclxub.gif If that is clear then AegoM is wat? It is the best way to go there and hear it by ur own then compare.... biggrin.gif

Hemm i myself own vs4121 lastime (3 years ago).. well, yeah, for trance music it's good, bcos of the overwhelming bass. I doubt it's good in movie too, yes u'll hear those great explosion and great sound effect, but sometimes i cant hear the conversation inside the movie, bcos the treble and mid is just too weak. For music? sweat.gif (sorry to say that, but the above is just based on my experience on vs4121). Pairing it with a soundcard (i pair up with A2ZS lastime) will kinda 'remove the clothes' from the satellite (this is the best layman description for the sound from the satellite sweat.gif ), but still it's too weak. The treble/bass ratio just isn't right.

Anyhow, still back to old saying, sound is subjective, as long as you like it and it suits your ear, then it's fine icon_rolleyes.gif enjoy it bro biggrin.gif

Haha ... don't attack him some more la. I guess having the Altec Lansing logo on the speaker itself is a huge endorsement when it comes to deciding. If the buyer is happy with the product I guess it is a win-win situation.

Ello all pros

I would like to get a 2.1..As I was wondering around MidValley yesterday..I saw Sonic Gear Armaggeddon A5..I liked it..the sound quality is nice (for me =P) and it meets my budget

I visited another shop in MV..and saw a blue colored version of the A5..and I totally fell in love with that =P

And now I just found out that the blue version is not Armaggeddon A5..instead it is the BT3 (Blue Thunder 3) and it is slight cheaper than the A5..

How are the 2 different in each other when they look exactly the same and has the exact same specs?

Specs from Sonic Gear's website

QUOTE(Armaggeddon A5)
Total Power 75 Watts

Subwoofer:
Bass and Treble Volume Control
6.5" Long Throw, Low Frequency Driver

Satellite:
Trendy Hard Metal Finishing Design
2.5"+2.5"+1" Tweeter

Feature & Charateristics:
Audio Input: 3.5mm jack
Bass, Treble and Master Volume Control
Frequency Response : 35 Hz - 20,000 KHz
S/N Ratio : >80 dB
Distortion : <1% THD (Std 300 mA peak-to-peak source)

im not living in the same area with you for sure.
but im sure these "babies" are available in some big multimedia shops.
even sometimes,, shops who sells ipod accessories also sold JBL spyro and JBL spots.

about the Creature and Encounter, these are "not-new" products, hence to find not so easy.
but apart from other two Spot and Spyro, these Creature and Encounter easily found in big computer shops instead.
my suggestion, ask people from the same area with you about local computer shops.
cause i believe, finding "basic" JBL products is not hard nowadays... even imo it's easier than sonic gear...

Good luck rclxms.gif

Guys, i wanna enquire whether are Creative speakers good? blush.gif

According to my cousin, creative speakers are cheaper in s'pore. Is that true?

If that is true, i am considering the following speakers....
I-Trigue 200 (SGD$ 49.00)
SBS Vivid 60 (SGD$ 35.00)
I-Trigue 2300 (SGD$ 79.00)
SBS A300 (SGD$ 49.00)
Inspire M2600 (SGD$ 59.00)

Which one do u guys think its worth paying for? My max budget is SGD$ 80.00. If any of u have other brand opinion, what other brand of speakers do u recommend??

Gaming/movie need boomy bass and surround effect.
Music doesnt, it only requires stereo and accurate bass.

no offence, but u certainly are the 1st one i have seen in lyn using "damn clear" to describe VS4121  laugh.gif

no doubts, i have tested too many times on VS4121, fren's unit and lowyat plaza also. my fren's unit is the 1st batch oh, heard that altec speaker always the best at 1st batch, the later batch will start cut cost on material.  i have the same feeling with walabies, don't you feel the way of VS4121 sound like taking a cloth cover the speaker? have u notice the mid-range driver are facing the table? such a design how to sound clear? u can try let the speaker satelite lie down let the mid range facing u then u will find it actually sounds better than normal... lolz  this is solely the satelite problem, the subwoofer part if u compare it with atp3 u will find that atp3 have more accurate bass, VS4121 bass is somehow overwhelming the mid and high frequency sound hence it sounds blur in general, unless u turn the bass off then it may clearer but how can we stick with speaker that no bass?  biggrin.gif
*
rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif Hard to find somebody in this forum who has same opinion as me...I totally agree with ur point...no matter how u adjust and tune the equalizer, the mid range wouldn't give u what u want...if u let the midrange facing u, u will get ready to become deaf, because the mid high(like electronic guitar) will make ur ear very paintful...

my recommended:
RM150-250: Altec Lansing ATP3....Eacan A200...
RM250-350: Eacan A-600II--look very similar to Altec Lansing MX5021,especially the subwoofer unit...50W??sound good...
RM500-600: Altec Lansing MX5021, 90W(of course, i am using currently)...low hum bass at 40hz-60hz, satellite need some equalizer tuning(don't worry, the midrange and high is still under user control)...

not recommended:
logitech Z2300...same price as MX5021, 2X powerful than MX5021, but no midrange sound at all....
altec lansing VS4121...totally unbalance sound....
Sonic gear blue thunder 3....BT2 better than BT3...

all units above are all in 2.1 configuration, if ur currently used speaker is in the "not recommended" list, please don't feel angry, because is only my tested opinion, if u feel good, thats all right, please don't shoot me.....

Added on August 14, 2007, 2:31 amHere i share my limited experience with reader seems like many user are look so serious about the bass response when choosing speaker....buyer always trusted the Spec listed by the speaker manufacturer, especially the bass response, many speaker in the price range from RM200-RM400 claim that the bass response as low as 30 or 35hz...but actually not...go to download sony sound forge 8 or 9 (if no money, just cxxxk it only) from www.sonymediasoftware.com and generate the sine wave from 30-100hz to test ur speaker, u will exactly know ur speaker bass response...here i give rough idea who had listen to those speaker before... Altec VS4121 and ATP3 strong bass response from 60hz-100hz, below 55hz silent dramatically...Altec MX5021 bass response strong at 40-65hz, 30hz-40hz still can hear it, exactly the spec claimed...others test urself if interested...u also can save those sine wave as MP3 or other format and put inside ur MP3 player (good quality MP3 player is needed, bcos ayam brand player almost cut off frequency lower than 60hz), so u can test the speaker bass response at the PC shop before u buy...recommended test frequency are 30Hz,35Hz,40Hz,45Hz,50Hz,60Hz,70Hz,80Hz until 100Hz...so if u find that this opinion is totally useless after u read it, just ignore it, and please don't shoot me... thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

for the sinnewave. edifier have a program called sound generator too.
no need to use mp3 from different frequency, just open the software and enter the desired frequency level. software very small hence convenient.

for the JBL encounter price, usually near the Soundsticks II price.
about 180USD - 200USD.

i don't really choose M3300 for gaming.
the ATP3 might perform better if it's used for gaming.

anyway M3400 might be preffered upon M3300 if used for gaming.
generally (incl. me) if i want a speaker for gaming, i found the speaker which produce most loosen bass like BT2/3 or Vs4121. but as im listening to music more, M3300 would be better.

but some people want to have both clarity and bass boost. so both can be achieved, but not on M3300 for sure, although its clarity really impressive on 200 tag.

I am in audio industry and listen to a lot of speaker..

Use to buy a lot of ATP3 for friend, etc...

the other day want to buy an ATP3 for my self just for my laptop when I am home.. end up with Sonic Gear BT3... I try too many Altec Lansing so just want to try some other...

another reason I bought BT3 becoz it use all standard connector..

after 2-3 week listen, tuning, fine tune EQ of it.. I come to a conclusion about BT3..

answer = it suck.. suck big time.. the satellite use 2 same driver for mid.. without any engineering reason.. 2 same driver use to place together to achieve throwing the sound far .. for a near field PC speaker, drive the 2 same driver together with same sound.. it doesn't work...

another thing suck big time for the satellite is, it produce a lot of Plastic sound.. it supprise me a lot becoz the box are made from wood and kind of heavy compare to other speaker.. like ATP3.... doh.gif doh.gif

Damn disappointed with it.. thinking to add in some thing into the box itself to reduce the plastic sound... open it up, damn it.. 3 driver in the satellite.. NO CROSSOVER.... doh.gif all loop through... except 1 little capacitor for the top Tweeter... doh.gif ah.. damn pissed..

Now I running the Sub to my TANNOY passive studio monitor... of course can't compare the Studio monitor to the BT3 Satellite.... one of the MOnitor can buy 4-5 set of BT3 set...

The Amplified signal still sound fine to my monitor.. but still some unknow weird sound from it... hay...

who want the BT3.. I sell it cheap cheap.. doh.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

two mid drivers place in one satellite actually not a weird design, Altec Lansing MX5021 and Eacan A600 also like that, but the sound quality is totally different from BT3, such design has advantage, it can produce a clear and high charity vocal if it is designed in the right way, but also can spoils the whole system if it sounds bad, even a single midrange only(like Altec Lansing VS4121)...i want to buy BT3 before because the design look attractive, the size is big and the woofer is heavy and wooden, but after i heard it, i found that it not sounds as i expect..............about the crossover u stated, i think u probably couldn't find crossover in any PC speaker satellite, because almost all PC speakers use "active crossover" instead of "passive crossover".

Passive Crossover using the resistor-capacitor-inductor (RLC circuit), it using those component characteristic to filter the sound frequencies, it only low down certain frequencies level without cutoff completely, so it usually sounds more nature in default, this kind of crossover can easily found in most 2.0 home stand speaker, but this crossover normally is heavy in weight and consume a lot of space, so PC speaker normally using active crossover instead of passive one... active crossover is using the IC to set the crossover frequency of the driver, this kind of crossover windy used in PC speaker because it can cutoff high and low frequencies completely so that the woofer unit only produce the bass sound and pass the mid and high to the satellite driver, but it leads to another problem, many PC speakers found that the existance of crossover gap, which means certain frequency is very weak due to over filtered, it probably due to its own design problem and the material characteristic of the driver, so normally PC speaker need to tune the equalizer to compensate those weak frequency band. icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Ya, i know what u are talking about... i am talking about crossover inside the satellite...because u said u feel pity when u open the satellite, "NO CROSSOVER and ALL LOOP THROUGH, except 1 little capacitor for the top tweeter".....don't so surprise, you wouldn't find crossover in any PC speaker satellite one... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

hehe....BT3/ATP3/VS4121/Evo7 + Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value Users Here ^^".....

Lowest to highest Price : evo7 - > ATP3 - > BT3 -> VS4121
Highest To Lowest Bass : VS4121 -> ATP3/BT3 -> Evo 7
highest to lowest Clarity : ATP3 -> VS4121 -> BT3 -> Evo 7
Value Buy : VS4121 -> ATP3 -> BT3 -> Evo7

About the evo7 , i think this speaker aleadi can satisfied most of the users with RM140 +- Budget Users.....

And the atp3/bt3/vs4121 will be betters compare to others RM1xx 2.1 speaker.....i recommends u guys better topup few $ to buy a ATP3 if u got RM1xx budgets. Trust me , u won't be regrets after u buy ATP3. ATP3 the sound is consider as clarity and the bass is really reality and enough.

If you want highest bass rather then reality.....VS4121 is good choices. I still remember thats day when i back to house , i heard a loudly bass from the area near my house....i wondering which house so dare challanging the bass with my old ATP3. but after i arrived to house , i noticed that bass is came from my sis VS4121 thats she bought at that day. And the bass just open no above half volume also very strong aleadi.

About the BT3 .....i really no recommends...because last time my sis own a BT3 and i try to figure it out , i quite dissapointed on the performances and i rather go for ATP3 then BT3.

Between ATP3 and BT3, BT3 is better. I had tested this 2 speakers. ATP3 satellite cant produce the clear and better human voice as BT3. You better go to Lowyat test in your own coz diff ppl has diff taste and needs

yeah im another M3300 supporter for 200 pricetag.
although it doesnt sounds boomy (as for gaming and movie)
but the bass is tight and the clarity is excellent.

when watching movie. however, loose bass is important, but i rather have the clarity cause all the detail will be spoken up.

better try out yourself, diff individual diff taste... smile.gif

Hello! I am in need of new speakers... can any1 recommend me a good 2.1 speaker or 2.0  wan?... I am in UK at the moment and unfortunately I cannot go stingey with Edifier coz they do not have it here. Sonic Gear is out too... Most UK forumers are crazy with Logitech and Creative... so i decided to turn back to the sagely Msian advice instead...
I will be using them with my Dell laptop to watch videos, listen to music and play games. Hmm... breakdown of usage will be:
30% watch TV shows (dun reli need the bass),
30% watch movies
25% listen to music
14% play games
1% listen to MSN nudges

Also, i move my laptop around alot and would prefer a portable (i dun mind how heavy) setup. Lastly, I am a bass addict but the darn houses in UK have cardboard-quality walls and the neighbourhood is always dead quiet... so I cant go too crazy on the bass.

My budget is rm300... give or take.
Speakers I am eyeing (price in UK):-
1) Logitech Z-10 (rm390)
2) Creative Gigaworks T20 (rm280)
3) Klipsch GMXA2.1 (rm380 - 2nd hand) or promedia ultra 2.0 (rm250 - 2nd hand, rm300 for new)
4) Altec Lansing XT2 (rm350)
5) Bose... havent looked into them yet

The 2nd hand prices for the klipsch is juz a prediction. I found them on UK ebay. Those prices will be my highest bids... i think. Anyways, feel free to add any good valued speakers 2.1 or 2.0 to my list. If i had edifier R201 here.... it would already suffice.

Thanks for helping me out. Please reply soon as the ebay auction is closing in 2 days. Thank you again!

PS. this is all someone's fault for selling me those MylarThree IEMs... They have pampered my ears so much that I cannot tahan my laptop speakers anymore.... hoho

Anyway my application is under review... But no point if the Edifier prices in UK are inflated... Would rather get better speakers since the price-wow factor no longer exists in Edifier Uk stuff... cry.gif

I wan to change speaker. Currently using Sonic Gear...Smthing wrong with it... i cannot turn ON its bass as it will suddenly TREMBLING n goes nut.

I'll Stick to 2.1 as space is a concern for me. I listen music + play games most of the time. I listen to instrumental music, guitar, ochestra... so the Clarity of the speaker r the most important to me.. (can hear every single detail)
Bass not tat important... don really like BANG BANG music. cool.gif

Can Any1 suggest me any good 2.1 Speaker? Creative? Altec Lansing? Klipsch (hell expensive). my 10 years old pc using Creative 2.0 but still sounds much better than my 5 years old Sonic Gear 2.1

My Budget rm 300 below. Sonic Gear out of my list...

Will go lowyat later.. or tomoro to buy. biggrin.gif

AegoM is the name of the speaker, the company name is Acoustic Energy. The price is what? RM700+? I don't remember but its around that, yeah people say cheap thing no good bla bla bla but not all people have the money to buy everything expensive. If you curious look at the review here:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/multimedia/r...o-M-Speakers/p1

I don't know much speaker that good for about RM300 but I've used a Logitech X-230 (about RM190 I think) and it sounds quite good, probably there's more bang for your buck speaker out there, obviously I can't recommend something that I never heard of, but take note all the recommendation, go to shop and ask for running demo first and buy judging by your ears, not by fanboys or reviews. Different people different taste especially in something as subjective as an audio

Hehe, ask those forumer who own an Aego to let you test, or else lastime i went to hifi shop in Wisma MPL (the one that Davis mentioned). The 1st thing u'll look at the size of the satellite then you'll start thinking whether that's really the sound produced by the the tiny satellite.

really interested to listen at this Aegom u guys r toking bout..
if is really very very good n is less than rm 500 still can considering buying..

but now.. can any1 suggest others within my budget? rm 300 below...sm ppl think 300 for a 2.1 speaker is oredi hell expensive n they recommend me 5.1 instead... but i don need 5 speakers.

Or should i cut down my budget on speaker..n focus on a better soundcard instead? will it make lots of difference? still sound system im hoping to get within rm 300.. if not max rm 400

Creative? Altec Lansing? which better? smtime is very hard to test speaker when go to buy that time.. d interfering of other speakers n surrounding r disturbing. cant really tell.

I just came back from Singapore, and I saw a Bose Companion 3 Series 2 being sold there for around $450. I heard the sound coming from these speakers, and it was orgasmic! I was seriously interested in it and wanted to buy it when my friend told me that it could get held by the customs if I tried to bring them over here.

I don't know whether this is the correct place to ask this or not, but I want to know where can I buy these speakers and how much will they cost in Malaysia?

Thank you.

The Companion 3 is about RM1K or so here in KL. You can get them at the BOSE outlet at One Utama or KLCC.

I just came back from One Utama and it seems that the Bose shop there is closed already. I'm gonna go to KLCC next weekend to find the speakers.

I'm kinda new to this audiophille things, can someone give me a brief introduction + info on these things? Like, whether I should get an amp, or change my soundcard to compliment the Bose Companion 3 speakers? Thanks again.

EDIT: Oh yeah, one more thing, I have a Sony STR-K840P amp together with the 5.1 speakers which my dad is willing to give me. Is this better than the Bose Companion 3 Series 2 speakers?

You cant compare 2.1 speaker with 5.1 speaker. But Bose Companion 5 integrate a virtual 5.1 surround technology, may be you can have a test of Companion 5 whistling.gif whistling.gif

laugh.gif i got try that few time before...
however what im combining is mostly 2.1 and 2.1
2.1 and 2.0 one time only..
but now im stick to single 2.1 config laugh.gif

@ 2pac.
may i know why don't consider a 2.1?
i mean, more -better- 2.1 can be found rather than 2.0
on that price range imo...

it depends.
original 4.1 is always better if compared to "mix-and-match"
2.1 and 2.0 or whatsoever. it's because single 4.1 is manufactured to be like that. which means all is balanced.

unless, you're comparing 100$4.1 and 1000$2.1 (differ case alredy)

what 2.1 are you using now if i may know?

to be honest, must say that the better is save money till about 200.
i mean, ur Bt3 is around 200 right?
if you buy something below it, there's few chance for you to satisfy to the product...

anyway it's your choice... i may not know what suits you the best...
but returning to the topic, Rm100,
Altec 121i or Edifier M1310? how about it?

None of us, me included have not listened to your dad's old Sony home theater system which your are making your selection reference.
Rather than asking us how it sounds, wouldnt it be more logical/meaningful if you could give this Bose system a listen?
You could 'googled' for the review of that Bose if its available and that is all you have, someone's word.
Music/audio listening is a personal taste/preferences, as what I like to hear may or may not suit you...

The guys are really trying to help.

I am NOT a No.1 fan of Bose system although I have listen to some of Bose products.I do own a small Bose speaker system which I select because I liked the sound.Price is NOT a bother eventhough it is 'more'.BTW, Bose fan in this forum is hard to come by wink.gif
I am sure if you were to select this Bose system, you would not regret the audio quality that you're going to get. Personally I think it would sound 'better' than that 'old' Sony System..

Good luck to your speaker system selection.

imo, logitech produce good sounds.
but the price is not proportionate to the sound that it gives.. that's all.

if the price is cheaper, perhaps it'd be a good choice.
(hard cause Logitech is a known brand today)

QUOTE(crescence @ Sep 2 2007, 08:37 PM)
I just came back from Singapore, and I saw a Bose Companion 3 Series 2 being sold there for around $450. I heard the sound coming from these speakers, and it was orgasmic! I was seriously interested in it and wanted to buy it when my friend told me that it could get held by the customs if I tried to bring them over here.

I don't know whether this is the correct place to ask this or not, but I want to know where can I buy these speakers and how much will they cost in Malaysia?

Thank you.

QUOTE(crescence @ Sep 5 2007, 06:19 PM)
Hmm.. What I'm trying to say is, in terms of sound quality, which one is better?
*
Bro, from your post, guess that you had listened to both the Bose Companion 3 Series 2, and obviosly your dad's sony + 5.1 speakers as well. Since u said it was orgasmic to listen to Bose, did u get that feeling when you are listening to your dad's sony + 5.1 speakers?

Just as jazzy939 said, almost none of us heard your dad's speaker system, so it's very hard for us to comment anything about it. Again the same saying, sound is subjective. Therefore, trust your ear (after all, the speaker will serve your ears tongue.gif) and get the one that suits your need thumbup.gif

Hi all,

I need icon_question.gif! I'm looking for a 2.1 speaker, and the numerous options are giving me a headache rclxub.gif
I want it mainly for music. I listen to all genres, from orchestral scores which require good treble, to hip hop and techno with pounding bass.
I also want it to give good sound for movies, especially those Star Wars type action flicks tongue.gif
No gaming though.

The brands i'm considering are Altec Lansing, Edifier and Sonic Gear. Any recommendations? I know its important to test the speakers with my own ears and choose what i like, but its difficult to do so when there are a dozen other speaker models blaring different tunes in the same shop. Edifier is the only brand i've been able to properly test, and i like the M3300. Does this model have any problems/weaknesses?

I'd also like for the subwoofer to be of a reasonable size as my room is quite small. The AL models i've seen have HUGE subwoofers.

My budget is maximum RM250 (but I might consider a more expensive model if you can prove the speaker is worth it wink.gif )

Thanks for the help folks smile.gif

Just bought myself a Logitech X-530...
Sounds good to me even when I'm using onboard sound... I think will soon upgrade to Audigy...
X-530 seems good to me when watching movie and playing games... But when it comes down to listening music(I listen to classic), I felt it's too bassy...
Hope this helps smile.gif

I do still recommend you to survey at the shop 1st before making ur final decision. If u go to lowyat, just find thundermatch 5th floor,ALL IT Hypermarket or Sri Computer to test it.About the tune all come out issue,u just turn off d volume of dall speaker and open d one u like to listen,by that u can listen 1 by 1 for d variety of speaker. And with side by side comparing, u can easily get d best sound performance that suites you need.Altec,Edifier or Sonic Gear are all well,AL is more to clarity, and Sonic Gear is more to bass.

for me, its depends on the size of your room. let says you are living in a small room, 2.1 is enough already. However, if you want 2.1, you should be looking for a good one such as logitech Z series. if you have bigger room, then buy 5.1 or home theater. hahahaha

take out my very old.. amp spoiled Cambridge Soundwork 4.1 speaker.. plug the satellite to my unsatisfied BT3 Sub.. wakakkakaa... it sound much better than the Original BT3 Satellite..

it is only wt 1 x 3" driver compare to BT3 satellite.... it have much more higher mid high and sound more nature compare to the Ori BT3 plastic sound... sweat.gif sweat.gif although the cambridge using plastic compare to the BT3.. wood... sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

anyway.. it tend to have lower high..tweeter sound.. but this is pretty normal since it only have 1 driver... laugh.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif

Added on September 15, 2007, 9:43 pmBut of course.. 1 driver are good for nearfield application like computer spaeker.. since we sit so near to the PC... compare to the BT3 3 drivers....

Is it possible the volatage of your old speaker may not suit to BT3 speaker?
I means the BT3 sub may cant provide the enough voltage to your old speaker rclxub.gif

hahahahaha....

both of the satellite are passive.. all the amp for computer speaker are in the sub.. what u worry friend??

what u have to worry the the Impedance of the speaker.. u worry.. just use an impedance meter to measure the speaker impedance will do..

most of the time.. computer speaker.. u get 4 ohms or some time lower.. slightly higher may the case sometime.. but very less chance la...

the only concern of different impedance is when u attached too low impedance speaker to the amp.. u may blow the amp provided u really blast it la... some more.. my old satellite cannot be low as 2 ohms or 1 ohms la.. if it is 1 ohms. I throw it to the dushbin now.. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Added on September 15, 2007, 10:05 pmBeside.. for ur knowladge.. if u loop speaker.. the impedance will go lower .. say.. u have 2 4ohms spaeker .. then u loop it.. .. 1 amp output.. go to 2 speaker.. it impedance will become 2ohms...

very simple parallel Resistor logic... looping 2 speaker just the same like parallel 2 resistor..

this will bring harm to ur amp becoz it drain more power from ur amp...

So my ancient Logitech Z-540 4.1 speakers just died, so I need to go and get a new set of speakers. Since no one seems to sell 4.1 anymore, I've decided to drop to 2.1's instead (PC & Xbox360 are both in my bedroom, and can't really expand into a 5.1 anyway).

So I'm looking for a really good pair of 2.1 speakers. Primary is gonna be watching video's & gaming (PC & Xbox 360 will be hooked to it, Xbox is thru my PC Monitor as well). It must also be dependable. My Z-540's lasted the better part of 4 years, so I'd like them to last.

I want to say that cost is no object (the constraint is more physical space in my room), but I don't wanna be too silly about it. Let's say I think it's ridiculous to go beyond RM700 for a 2.1 set. Though mind you, if it's really good I'll probably be able to convince myself.

Right now I'm looking at:

Altec Lansing FX 6021
I-Trigue L3800
Logitech Z-2300

One other thing that I'm looking for is easy availability. All three models above are easily available in LowYat.

So, what do you guys recommend? Is there any other 2.1's that I should listen to. I know nuts about Klipsch and the other brands, so recommendations welcome.

Ya, why MX5021 not in your list laugh.gif laugh.gif
FX6021 is not suit to play game but major in listen song
Z-2300 with THX certified, for gaming and movie.
MX5021 with THX certified, also for gaming and movie.
Klipsch GMX ProMedia 2.1, for gaming and movie too.

If Z-2300, MX5021 and GMX Promedia is suitable for gaming.
But if you're bass head, you may go for Z-2300.

Just my 2 cent icon_rolleyes.gif

If u can wait, i will suggest u to wait for the new Edifier S530D(S 2.1D)/S730D(S .1MKII).
If u need it urgent, i will suggest u try out the S2.1M(S330). Please ask them to plug the input to the AUX-IN @ wired controller, it will give u more power cause the Input sensitivity higher than the Input at the back panel of the woofer.

gotta believe that for portable range, it's one of the best speaker in its price...
sized only 2" and weigh for about 1kg. when i compare it to JBL onTour, mp300 seems to be slightly better...

List is now:

I-Trigue L3800
Logitech Z-2300
Altec Lansing MX5021
Klipsch GMX ProMedia 2.1
Edifier S530D

The last two I' not sure of availability in LYP.

i got both M3300 and MP300...
M3300 used in hometown while MP300 carry around everywhere if i need it....

of course, M3300 sounds better in all aspect instead of MP300...
but what i like from MP300 is that it has stylish carrying case which allow me to bring it everywhere easily... the design also looks much better than M3300. hmm.gif

that time i bought it at very close price, now i know that Mp300 is designed for portability and design while M3300 is sound quality. depends on your need, i think both products are one of the best in that price and class range.... biggrin.gif

that's a normal price.
this speakers is a big NO NO for gamers. it only supports a digital optical cable. hence, it's only good for DVD-video but bad for games.

Hi evybody! I don't know if i post this into the right thread but i need to know which shop is selling this and what is the price.
Attached Image

It's Creative Gigaworks T40 2.0 speaker system. I need to test this unit and hopefully it's a bit cheaper than AeGO M. Anybody has tried this speaker before?

For gaming and movie + if you are a bass head, then yes. If more to music listening, then better get some other speakers. The satellite sucks. It is just based on my hearing experience as i owned one VS4121 lastime for 2 years. thumbup.gif

I need some recommendations please, not sure to choose a 2.1 or 5.1, can't decide on which model either

- mainly use for music listening

Since you mainly use for music listening, get a 2.1. Aego M is a very good choice for you, but it depends on what kind of music that u listen. If you are a basshead, then AegoM might fail to impress you. Then u can use the remaining money (maybe top up a bit) to get some decent soundcard. I heard from the review that Prodigy HD2 from the bulk can pair up with AegoM pretty nice. U may try that. RM685 for aego, and RM390 for the card. biggrin.gif

Aego M, no expections. I don't care what you're listening to. be it Techno, Trance, House, Jazz, Pop. it fits everything.
you can always set the bass to level 3 if you feel theres not enough bass.

usually low end speakers have that issue. How much u pay is what u get?

Maybe he test at the edifier showroom and no sound u go back u test on your your audio got also useless right. If u need a high end thing to use a low end thing means more spending $$$.

If a low end works on any low end device means the speaker have good build in technology

what i suggest you do is get a mp3 song 1 with 64kbps bit rate another 192 k bps bit rate take your CD and test on their system there.

Our taste and your taste might not be the same. Like me i use optical for my audio it sound clearer and sharper compare to traditional cable.

okay.
i read tru each and every posts and threads and i am really going crazy now.

im currently trying to look for a 2.1 system. but doesnt really know how to cuz this is the first time im getting a 2.1 system. my budget will be below rm200 (or above?)

but with a budget like that i dotn think i could get any of the recomandations models in here.

im into gaming and music. tried out m2300 yesterday and it actually peforms better than the atp3, atp3 distorts at high volume. but then again, read tru some post where someone actually doesnt recommend m2300.

i dont know. i really dont know.

really going crazy now. thanks

or should i get something around rm100? man i, am, crazy now

it's hard to get a different point of view from here. the only answer is to audition the speakers urself. most of the replies here tend to be bias. in ur case, our fellow forumers will reply "top-up some more and get aego-m " or other kind of replies which u shud probably know already since u've gone thru every post here. or worst case scenario, u won't get any reply at all.. it's not correct to judge speaker by what people recommend....
but instead judge the speaker by your own ears....

1/2 year ago i was asking people about which speaker is the best for RM200.
tons of answers come out and i take a look at the characteristic that forumers mentioned.
it's relevant to the real life....

for example people said altec VS4121 have boomy bass while edifier M3300 is having sharp sounds.
(i was comparing all RM200 speaker listed here)
fortunately, when listening to both of them, i understand what fellow forumer speaks and in the end i ended up buying M3300 that day... months later, i have an opportunity to test some speaker that i want to test previously (but no chance cause no shops did that). luckily, i was very impressed by the M3300 cause all the speakers i'm comparing to are not as good as M3300 in my ear.

so finally, u see, i do not recommend buying speaker on what people say. but instead, listen to the speaker yourself... cause it's the best to avoid unsatisfactory. smile.gif

well, you dont buy a speaker because of the spec,is it???you buy a speaker that will satisfy you most while fitting your budget...and,human's ears only capable of 20Hz-20,000Hz,whats the point?just buy which suit you most

20Hz?? I doubt anybody here can hear 20Hz in even 20db... tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

done some reinforcement to my BT3... add in some cusion to the satellite... open up the speaker.. found the top part like a Horn.. the sound traverl to the horn make the speaker generate some horn alike sound.. I put in cusion almost 80% covered the inside of the speaker...
it improve on the weird horn like sound.. but still have some plastic sound.. I think is come from the plastic face cover plate.. thinking some way to insulate the front plastic in the next step.. hmm.gif hmm.gif

i think 20db is still normal... below it than its harder...
i mean, when i test the software to "speak" 20hz, still can hear very2 low frequency...
but then if 20000hz... i think its the one which is undoubtedly most ppl cant hear... i try on different speaker and i cant hear a single pitch! mine stop somewhere at 18khz i think... cause 17500 still can hear slight... dunno bout how u ppl... or maybe my speaker sucks,, and when i check this on the internet. "they" said average ppl also sucks at17000 and above, esp. when u grow older...

dont buy speakers bcos someone recommend it. try to hear from it first then ask other ppl what they think and see whether it conform to what you think. dont do it based on other ppls opinion alone. its yours that really count.

Lacus - i saw one klipsch 2.1 selling in garage sale music thread for 330 or 320 if im not mistaken. thats within ur budget and its a good speaker.

besaid - haha nice one.

has any set of 2.1 comes at the range of 300MYR yet still giving a very good performance, initially set my eye on Aego, but its a lil pricey together with logitech z2300, edifier S2.1M, Altec lansing MX5021, most of them cost at atleast 400MYR up to 700MYR, i'm looking for something value for my money, if my speaker is not so powerful, i don't think i need a better card rite? on-board sounds 7.1 good enough? pls advise, thanks.

i use my speakers mostly for movies & musics only.

Hemm, if u compare the performance / price ratio of AEGO M with other speaker, then u won't say that it's expensive, but in the other way round smile.gif

The better soundcard gives you a better source. IMO it doesn't depend much whether the speaker is powerful or not, it's in term of the sound quality when u get yourself a soundcard.. onboard soundcard usually sucks bigtime.

If for movie and musics only, u can forget about creative soundcard and get some other brand one. However, not familiar with good speaker around RM300 though..

He can let you test onboard soundcard. But even that, it's much more upgraded sound unlike the usual 'multimedia' sound which we are used to. Let you have a little taste of hi-fidelity music.

But all in all, he's quite busy recently, so he only cater customers not testers. Cos we dont sell them anymore (or safe to say 'recently')

Hi guys, currently itching to upgrade to a 5.1 system, would the creative gigaworks G500 be good enough? Let's say by comparing it to Z5500, i know the bass of Z5500 is obviously more powerful, but i am more concern bout music performance, but at the same time i need thumping bass as well whistling.gif . G500 or Z5500? Users of these speaker kindly give opinion lol

Even S4.1 is without centre speaker, it still can accept 5.1 sound and reproduce the centre channel through front left n right speaker, unlike other 4/4.1 speaker. If your space is not too large, u won't notice the different with the real 5.1 speaker, save u some space too. sound quality definitely much much more better than the r501.

Edifier is not bad, lower range creative and altec not so good these days... and i think at the end of the day its margin..

Edifier prob gives much better spread and margin to retailers / sales people..

T20 and T40 consider is mid end speaker, Creative speaker can perform well if you have tune it by sound card or equalizer. I had a Inspire 2400 2.1 I still love this speaker so much.

While, I suggest you go test the speaker 'gao gao' at until you satisfy and differentiate which speaker is suitable to you just you decide to buy speaker because different people has different needs.

sonice gear bt3 - DONT EVER BUY, it sucks after 1 year. the wire got cacated need twist and hold it at the position then only can work normally.

altec vs4121 - got it a few days back. DAMN IT bought wrong speaker d. but nvm bought d so wat to do, the sound quality is NICE and GENG. actually,I wanted to add a double bass and 2 extra speaker. but realise tht cannot put, cuz they use different wiring. Buy at PC Fair or shop both also has its advantage and disadvantage. Lets say, you buy Altec Lansing speaker at PC Fair with cheapest price. After that you found that your speaker has problem need to RMA, where you should take to RMA?! Normally the seller at PC Fair they suggest you take to any shop that sell Altec speaker and the shop may charge you shipping fees. If you buy a shop, you can direct send your speaker to them without paying any shipping fee but the price may expensive than PC Fair price.

Your budget hard to get a nice 5.1 speaker that meet your requirement, but your budget can get a very good 2.1 speaker with THX certified that can meet you want.
Klipsch ProMedia GMX-A , Altec Lansing MX5021 or Logitech Z2300.

What speaker wil u guys recommend.. for a 2.1.... .. i don need 5.1 as i don hav much room space.

Budget round 200-300

and i listening to classical music, movie soundtrack etc.. so ..clarity is more important than bass..

Sonic gear out of my option.. it sucks.. (my current dying speaker) .... favourite speaker is Creative.. but looks like below my budget.

Ya, before I wish to test Z2300 before I bought MX5021! Unfortunately, the speaker available to test is only MX5021. So that time I just buy MX5021. Well, MX5021 and Z2300 both are THX certified speaker, but the Z2300 bass is 3 times powerful than MX5021. If you're bass head, you will love this speaker so much. But MX5021 also not bad. Of course, you need a sound card to tune your speaker!

If u are able to get your hands on Altec Lansing's ADA Series. They have enormous bass and value for money(i believe it's altec's best series). Unfortunately one thing is that it kind of a troublesome speaker because of the Spdif output. But normally its powerful enough to run as a 2.1 speaker without 4.1.

yea i'm using ADA880 currently. Been using it for like 8 yrs and still no problem. Till these days i still dont dare to switch the bass to max because its far too high. Even running at 3 i find it already too annoying. Well as mention if anyone who seeks budget value speakers , try to look for a 2nd hand on ADA series(applies to 880 and aboves). The only thing is you need a tv decoder card to have a spdif output to get the surrounds working.

Bro, we won't bully you der. laugh.gif
I am MX5021 user, so if you're bass head or require more bass, you can go for z2300. Other wise, MX5021. Someone in this forum said z2300 bass are 3 times powerful than MX5021... drool.gif
For me, MX5021 was balance a bit. Listen music, game or movie i can satisfy.

Both also perform well in game, movie...While music MX5021 will take place, z2300 take place in playing disco and techno song. If you're bass head or you really want shake your room maximum. z2300 is your choice. In the other hand, you will feel z2300 sub-woofer was too boomy till you cannot tahan. But MX5021 has balance treble and bass. The RMS power shown the different between z2300 and MX5021. Go test it before you purchase.
Just my 80 cents.

Between Edifier DA5000, Edifier R501 MK2, and Edifier MediaPro/AudioPro S5.1, which one is superior in gaming sessions, in terms of delivering enough oomph during explosions while still mantaining clarity. My usage would be split into 70% gaming, 20% music, and 10% movies.

I dont have a fixed budget yet, but i'd like to keep it under RM600 if possible. If you are using/used any of the speakers before, can you give me a simple rundown of the speaker?

Thanks for replying, mate. biggrin.gif

One more question, the review posted on Inter-Asia's website on the DA5000 claims that it has "muddy midrange response, and needed a little boost in the treble range". Does this affect gaming, or is it more of an audiophile problem? Anyways, is there an Edifier showroom of sorts where i can try out the speakers?

EDIT: Found the showroom location. tongue.gif

WOW! 15k for speaker drool.gif
I only know BOSE PC speaker, never do research about BOSE 5.1 system. For game, I will consider z5500 with the price around 1.3k. This speaker perform very well in game and movie.

Click here => What is THX or THX certified?
Well, FX6021 built in a concert function that can perform very well when playing music.
MX5021 has THX certified that can perform very well in movie and gaming.

hi all, i got 1 thing to ask...THX certified is for...?
like example will FX6021 sound better than MX5021 which is THX certified ?
*
i like listening music rather than watching movie,
so i listened to both.
FX6021 is very clear (maybe cause it got lots of tweeter unit) and sharp.
superb for listening songs.
but., 5021 is better when it comes to movie i must admit, because the bass made have different feelings from 6021,
that make the boom suit the movie's needs...

THX certified is another certificate to boost speaker's sale...
cause ppl will thought got thx, will sound good.... hmm.gif

SpikeTwo,

You could try to find the Logitech Z5300e. It's the smaller brother of the Z5500. Should cost about the same with G51 but it's THX certified. I think it has 250-300 watts of power which should be sufficient.

THX certified usually means the speakers have been tested and able to accurately reproduce the sounds/music in George Lucas's films.

Cheers,

@faint: ok...please please do test it and let me know how's the claimed "muddy" bass is like. LOL...see if it is good or not.

oh.kianweic thanks for the suggestion. i will try to hunt the retailers see if they have this old stock at hand. hehe...sound needs testing. very troublesome.

Spike Two,

I think you could try to find the old Logitech Z680. The quality of the sound is just as good as Logitech Z5500 but the bass is slightly les solid for my taste.

Last I heard they were selling it less than Au$300 per say, that is almost less than the amount to be paid for the Logitech G51.

Cheers,
Ken

i would recommend Edifier M3400 . if u want more bass then u should get arma or bluethunder 3, actually both are the same. but i've used bluethunder for a year and have got a few problems. like hizzing sound if open too long

Bro, I just came back....hehe
In PC Fair; the 5.1 speaker that only shows are x540 and big bro z-5500... damn disappointed.
After that, i went to Lowyat Plaza and I found this speaker in ThunderMatch. After tested and compare with other speaker... My opinion is overall performance is ok, the design of sub woofer same with s750 's sub woofer, direct to floor, can on the sport switch the audio mode.
Between x-230 and G51, I think x-230 is better than G51 in music.
This is just my personal opinion, hope this won't offend any guys.
bro faint. yeah, expected it would suck in music. lol..since most reviews said so. but just wanted to know in wat aspect ah? not clear enough? not loud? bass like shit? hahah...
how much thundermatch selling btw? how did u test it? game? hehe...no no...ur opinion is gold. need someone to really test it mah. online reviews can be crap sometimes. thumbup.gif

I felt that voice not so clear enough, I love the bass because its woofer designed direct to the floor; this will improve the effect of bass. The bass overall is satisfy, something good thing i don't know how to wrote in eng..... pai sei tongue.gif
If the woofer can heavy a bit that will be very nice rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
The price is around RM630, i can't remember the actual price. sry...hehe
Ai yo brother, in computer shop we can test speaker by playing game ? normally just test by listen the music only...haha
Actually is it your getting a new speaker ? what is your budget ?

Thanks dudes for the input.

I'm currently using 45.1, guess the 3 speakers should be the right ones. I love hard bass. biggrin.gif

ATP3 is pretty old, 4121 I have no idea. And the 151i kinda cool but I doubt it will perform as good as ATP3.
