that's why he need to get something like the x-fi surround 5.1 which i;ve owned in the year 2008 and i can say it really waste for a "multi" use.

i thought i'd like to use it on desktop and laptop. end up my desktop get many bsod, for old laptop it waste battery quickly and creative apps often crash. in vista (new laptop) it also slightly buggy, doesnt sound as good as early xp driver. but early xp driver got bug in volume wheel. doh.gif

he got xonar u1 and m3500. really unfortunate = totally incompatible... doh.gif
p.s. i dont know how xonar u1 handles 5.1, so i assume only in digital spdif.

anyway, i forgot, another solution is to use external decoder, otherwise, change the speaker or soundcard...

@eternity4av

Too bad to tell you, you have 3 choices so far:

1) sell your U1, and get the x-fi surround which supports 5.1.
2) sell your U1, and get a more expensive one, AUDIOTRAK MAYA EX5 CE, http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/601923.
3) use onboard, and definitely you can't feel the surround sound.

shakehead.gif shakehead.gif Why didn't you do some research about sound card and speaker before you purchased them..?

@nismo91, thanks for your advice

@zs3889, erm, i didn't expect the outcome to be like that, and most of the time i just buy stuff impulsively, i think i've learnt my mistake, anyway, thanks for your advice, it's really useful

laugh.gif to make things easy:

- Edifier M3500 supports Analog 5.1 only
- Asus Xonar U1 supports Digital 5.1 only

some things u can do to feel 5.1 experience
- sell U1, get laptop soundcard can support analog 5.1
- sell M3500, speakers that support digital 5.1
- get a external decoder if u dunwan sell anything
- or in case u upgrade laptop, get something has onboard analog 5.1
(acer aspire gemstone series have it, mine is 5930G and has onboard 5.1)

well im not sure. but not very cheap... example is creative DDTS100

if you looking for affordable way, creative x-fi surround 5.1 usb, is the cheap approach. just sell the U1 and can get x-fi 5.1 usb with little top up.

otherwise, if cost alot, might as well i recommend upgrade the M3500...

hi guys i getting edifier S550 next month due to a set back of a phenomenal car repair fee
my question is this. how this setup like for my room (3.5x3.5m)

Attached Image

red center
yellow front left
green front right
light blue rear left
dark blue rear right
purple sub - under the table (the sub placing is where my current sub is, will move for performance)

the satellite will be wall mounted at 2.3 m height.(i need to place them above the window)
since the satellite can't be tilted (or can it?) will this be a problem for me since sat will be too high?

thanks for your feedback

shakehead.gif shakehead.gif Because in pcfair, they place m3300sf with all monsters like s730 and s530, sure your ear almost get hurt when you listen to it, not only it actually, all the speakers there sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

So never have audition in pcfair, and easily get satisfied sweat.gif
