OIC, didn't see the CPUz readings. Saw the core temp readings. My mistake.

But on intel stock HSF??

If Q6600 also receive new stepping, better grab Q6600. But not all mobo will oc Quad core well..
*
Errr..... not much applications make use of quad core la. Unless you do use apps that takes advantage of multi-core. If not, better go for higher speed proc.

Q6600 (2.4Ghz) = E6850 (3.0Ghz!!!) = USD 266

Personally, I'd rather go for the E6850, then upgrade to penryn later!!! thumbup.gif

Dude don't forget about Folding. That's probably one of the few applications that can fully utilize the power of a quad core processor. We need a few quad cores to get to the number 1 spot within Folding@Malaysia cool2.gif

I know, I know!!! I'm a folder too!!! tongue.gif

As I have said, UNLESS you do use apps that take advantage of multi-core. nod.gif

Ordered the E6850 already la. This is because I'm planning to upgrade to penryn later! Now, that proc is really going to chew up those WUs!!! laugh.gif

haha dun worry he will oc it to 4.5ghz and gives 100% cpu usage to his folding team tongue.gif err or folding doesnt effected by clockspeed? laugh.gif
*
4.5 Ghz?!? I hope it can go that high!!! smile.gif

Ya ya! A big boost for our folding team! thumbup.gif

Of course! Higher speed will increase folding capability! laugh.gif

Erm... the way you talk.. I mean typed... means as if E6850 is better than Q6600... is it arr??
*
Already discussed a few post up.

Quad core still underutilize unless you do use multi-core apps such as folding.

Q6600 is 2.4 Ghz only, not as overclockable as dual-core
E6850 is 3.0 Ghz! Much more overclockable and cooler than quad.

Oh, sh*t. I'm late for work!!! sweat.gif

QUOTE(mADmAN @ Jul 16 2007, 07:50 AM)
dammit...all this talk of quad 1066 vs dual 1333 is getting me confused...

i remember a thread a short while ago on the same matter.. Q6600 vs E6850. and in that thread it was the more the merrier so most replies suggested the Q6600...

now sini pulak saying E6850.. baskets la u all.. making me even more confused now laugh.gif

so...which should i get then??

usage will be gaming (setting up an 8800GTS 320MB SLI rig on P5N32-E SLI).
LOTS of video encoding.
heat of course will be an issue as even a single 8800 is heating up like mad now. cooler will be cooled by a lapped XP-120. might OC.
want it to last for around 3 years before having the need for speed again.

so cmon guys.. make up my mind for me...i cant do it coz ive been working non stop since 3 PM yesterday (Sunday) til now 745am (Monday). so brain really not functioning sweat.gif
*
Not necessarily. The question you have to ask yourself is whether you're using any applications/software that take advantage of quad core CPU. If it doesn't, then no point going quad.

If I'm not mistaken, video encoding will benefit from quad core. I always skip this part of any review as I don't do video encoding! You should check reviews on quad core doing video encoding. If the results are spectacular, which I think it will be, then quad core is for you.

If only for gaming, then a faster dual core is better. So far, discussions have concluded that multithreaded games will come out but not so fast. In the future, when multithreaded games are common place, you can always upgrade to newer native quad core processors! For me, I'm looking forward to penryn! wub.gif

QUOTE(Phoenixwunin @ Jul 16 2007, 12:36 PM)
err... getting a little headache after reading a few replies back then wacko.gif
So I assume for gaming E6750 will be enuff?? No need for Q6600 rite???
*
In terms of price, the E6750 is the sweet spot, I think.

However, I just booked a E6850 because I got a good price for it! rclxm9.gif My initial plan was to get a E6750.....

QUOTE(RokXIII @ Jul 16 2007, 07:02 PM)
Q6600 good in encoding and 3D rendering, E6850 good in gaming.... If Q6600 able OC to E6850 speed, then it must be a very good choice!! wub.gif
*
True, but the E6850 can OC higher than that! Look at irenic's CPU (i.e. E6850 wub.gif) at 4 Ghz on stock cooling!!! rclxub.gif

QUOTE(darnell @ Jul 16 2007, 07:14 PM)
but  E6850 still can OC more higher ya..  tongue.gif

But... anyone know that Q6600 have heat problem ?

Thanks.  smile.gif
*
Quad core definitely hotter. TDP for both proc is:
E6850 = 65w
Q6600 = 105w

QUOTE(Phoenixwunin @ Jul 17 2007, 06:35 PM)
erm.. my friend is using E6600... but with this sudden price cut he's thinking of changing to E6850 now. Is it worth it?? Or perhaps overclocking to 3.0GHz is better for him?? (he's on stock cooler btw... wonder if he can oc up to 3.0GHz btw laugh.gif )

And (probably discussed already before.. but I'm going to have rclxub.gif if I started to read from page one again laugh.gif ) is the difference (performance) between 1033 and 1333 fsb really that significance??
*
It's not really worth it. The E6600 is already a good proc. You can OC it higher to achieve better performance. However, if he wants the best dual-core, then it's the E6850. Not only is it runningat 3.0Ghz, it can be OC even higher!!!

So, unless he really needs that kind of CPU performance, no point getting the E6850. Better get a good HSF for OC.

k marc also sudah upgrade.............

i tot u still goin to stick to s939..........

btw any time frame suggestion for penryn to be launch, i also thinking of setting up another rig with quadcore......
*
Ya lo. My 939 was still capable of playing current games although not at full settings. Upgrading in preparation of DX10 games. Last part to get is the 8800 GC (WHEN good DX10 games comes out).

The Penryn family is supposed to be introduced at Q1 2008.....

Hmm...is new one...staff price actually...my fren working at intel so can ask him 2 buy 4 me...limited choice 4 me since all d new FSB1333 proc like E6750 is not available there... any suggestion i should get it o not??
*
RM400 is a really good price. However, you have to consider a few things unless the difference to you is not important.

E6600 - 2.4Ghz (9x266), FSB 1066Mhz, older generation proc (but so what?!)
E6750 - 2.66Ghz (8x333), FSB 1333Mhz (need newer mobo to support), newer generation, supposedly a better overclocker, can get in bulk for RM55x if you don't mind waiting
