Hi my aircond was having some problem...

When turned ON its cold but after awhile it will only blow hot air. After a while it will blow cold air again.
Technician said its the compressor problem not enough pressure. Not due to not enough gas.

Anybody got similar problem and able to solve without changing aircond?


Its a Panasonic btw...about 5 years old.

when blow hot air, is the compressor running?
running = got sound, and fan running.

possibly your termostat also.. ac thought its too cold so turn off the compressor.

call another tech and what his opinion , if same then compressor bad already

compressor not running when its hot..can hear the sound of compressor stop.

Will get charged lo?

I kena compressor leak is after topping up gas, it will be cold for about a week then become hot air... Thats the symptom.

Technician suspected leakage either in compressor or the copper pipe. But luckily i told them to change the compressor first instead of hack out the pipe and replace...

Mine is Samsung inverter also about 5 years old.

You can always ask the technician if they will charge just to inspect.. some just charge transport fee only

how do u ask them to change compressor? used compressor?
how much they charge for that?

if compressor stop, potentially means
- indoor thermostat say already cold. no need compressor to start. check indoor unit.

- compressor overheat. indoor say start but outdoor not starting. there should be blinking light on indoor unit.

if your panasonic AC is less than 5 years you are still in warranty if it fails.
so better to call panasonic service to trouble shoot.

the problem could be capacitor degrade , low freon gas , faulty compressor , etc...
you need some AC trouble shoot skill s, if not just call service.


things you can check .

you need to be out observing the outdoor unit.

1, check if your compressor fan is spinning at start up. it should spin .

when u get hot air /stop cooling
2 Which one stop first .. the compressor or the compressor fan .

Looks like compressor spoiled or leaking....

To be double sure.. find another person to check...

For my case, they said I had to change both aircond unit and compressor. But of course u can ask the aircond guy if they can only replace the compressor.

Mine i changed the whole aircond, so they charged me RM280 for the installation fee and removal of the old unit

dont think its thermostat because if thermostat issue it will cold back after temp become warm.
it doesnt cold back until i restart the aircond. doesnt work if restart immediately after compressor stopped. need to wait awhile restart (or off it) only compressor start back

Sadly i believe its just slighly over 5 years do..

1. Yup spinning at start up and its cold but after awhile compressor stop and hot air only.

tell tech to test using neon to see the leakage

try the cheapest one first.. change the capacitor. rm15 ish
if cap weak, the fan can run but the compressor does not.
ya 5 years time to change capacitor.

A little update.....

I checked the receipt found still under 5 year compressor warranty so called Panasonic and they gave me their dealer contact.
Compressor parts foc but workmanship total RM380.

They came to check the indoor unit and found got leaking gas at the cooling coil.
Cost to change cooling coil RM520 and said is not compressor issue.

I called my techinician and show him the photo of indoor cooling coil leaking he agreed based on photo is true.
And he said when he came to check the compressor found not enough pressure so he didnt continue to check indoor unit and advise to change new aircond (lost 20% gas still got 80% gas still will cold if compressor no issue)

My technician also asked me whether Panasonic dealer check the compressor pressure or not, which i whatsapp them but no reply yet.

If i believe Panasonic dealer change cooling coil RM520 then they say compressor RM380 also problem means total RM900 about same price with buying new unit.

Yes, and repair wont guarantee no further issue.

If u want to take risk can repair.
Want less headache get new.

Rented house buy cheap cheap can already Sharp is not bad.

Personally, I don't think it is worth to repair air cond, refrigerator and TV. All these electrical appliances have lifespan. Buying new one with guarantee is better.
