Hi all sifu, would like to ask for tyre recommendations for the size 235/45R18

currently was using Continental MC5 - but thread finishing. So on a look out for tyres. Wondering any nice tyres to recommend which cost less than rm500 a piece. So PS4 and also MC6 out of the range.

As for current MC5 was pleased with its dry performance but in wet was quite poor.

So any other recommendations for this tyre size. Please help

This size is difficult la to get cheap but good ones. Probably your best bet just to try the new Toyo TR1

Actually so far i'm looking at these 3 tyres including the one you mentioned above

Toyo Proxes TR1
Hankook S1 Noble2
Bridgestone Turanza T005a

i mostly travel long distance every weekend jb - kl and back jb.

Which of the tyre above have better wet performance and less prone to aquaplanning?

i'm not so bothered about tyre noise.

S1N2 and T005A are just mid range tires, similar to that lousy MC5 that you've been using now. TR1 is UHP class, so probably better. But honestly if I were you I wouldn't get any of those, instead at least I'd get the Falken FK510 at around rm600. Btw there's this stock clearance on PS4 for just rm580 for your size which I think is a very good deal and I strongly recommend you just to get that.

Yes, latest Falken FK510 does got a lot of good review about its balance performance and value.
It is being compare directly with Michelin PS4 in term of price:performance ratio and Falken manage to beat the top.
If you got a lot of money and dont care about the price ratio, PS4 for sure got the better performance tire.

If can get at that price then no need to think anymore, just get it coz it's a good tire and very value for money. The tread wear rating is 300 so expect similar wear like most other UHP tires.

Where do you get that price btw?

A tyre shop in klang valley, Ching Tyre Auto Service. Then I'll just top up abit for that tyre then. more suitable for my car i guess. previously MC5 easily spin at low speed on my car.

not so sure about that in the future.

I saw some of the prices in singapore for fk510, seems to be increasing.

PS4 will have an edge here, because sourced from thailand, logistics costs lower and also got ASEAN preferential tariff treatment.

Comparatively, fk510 come from japan, some more yen and usd strengthening against RM, future purchase got don't seem favourable. If want fk510, better get it sooner than later before subsequent newer batches that costs more starts to come in.

I thought that Passat is supposed to use just 235/40/18 not 235/45/18, no? Or maybe opt for 245/40/18 if your rims is at least 8jj wide. 245/40/18 is more common size so many more choices and cheaper too.

Passat b8 is using the 18 inch dartford rims for the highline version. And the stock size comes in 235/45/r18 same as accord 2.4

Lol. Primacy 4 is touring tyre. Yeah, its cheaper, but not suitable for high speed cruise. Should get ps4, can feel planted at 200kmh.

Btw, depends on ur driving style also. Some passat I see is unker who drive relaxly 120 to 140kmh.

But, 2.0 so powerful, really waste if not drive above 160kmh. D segment strength is high speed stability.

No wonder so cheap. 2017 model. I never buy old stock tyre, next times can think about buying this old stock since I use tyre for 2 years only. Lol

But, only 2 available. So ts need to pair it with a good tyre also. If pair it with lousy tyre, then it will bottleneck ps4 performance.

2017 is still ok actually, so its a good deal to take. Michelin has warranty for their tires up to 6 years.

Yeah man, spirited driving depends on mood la, some just want to drive leisurely. So overtaking and stuff is really very relaxing, no stress.
Driving that car can't be speeding all the way can get tired le. Need to concentrate more on the road when driving 180kmh and above

But speed around 140-160kmh really quite comfortable and planted on the highway when driving the passat.
