Hi. Although I can change to new tyres, how can I prevent it in the future? Only front tyres have the problem (both sides). 3 years old less than 10k km, never done rotation before. Some say alignment is off, some say cos tyres already old. Some say didnt put enuff air. Thanks.

QUOTE(akib_mullen @ Aug 27 2019, 12:19 PM) Maybe you can check the tyre make date. Even you drive less than 10k but if the tyre itself is old so maybe that's why it is happening Already. 2016. Bought in 2016 so 3 years. Just that there might be something I am missing. Probably under inflate tires for the front. |

QUOTE(ipohmali70 @ Aug 27 2019, 12:23 PM) Tread looks fine, but tyres appear underinflated. Yes I suspect is cos of under infiltrate too. Happened to my old tyres also (diff brand). Weird that the back tyres are still in perfect condition, just that this front ones are like that. Q is can i still use if i rotate? Or do i need to get new ones?Inflate to recommended pressure. You must rotate your tyre in a X pattern. Use also your spare tyre (if full size). This post has been edited by firefly3x: Aug 27 2019, 12:32 PM |

QUOTE(zeng @ Aug 27 2019, 02:48 PM) 3 year old tyre with 10k km usage is still very good and fit to use some more . No need change to new tyres, wasting money. Side sticker recommended 220 kpa or 31psi.What's the psi you use now ? Driver side door say how many psi? Inadequate tyre is likely in your case. Avoid 29/30 psi , go for 36 psi depending on your tyre specs on the side , that helps if you can provide pictures on date of manufacture and tyre specs. With higher pressure, do rotation first to see whether same problem crops up later, before spending money now on alignment which may not be necessary especially no accident banging hard on tyre before. Only do alignment if same thing happens after rotation was done with say, 36 psi. I used to pump at 200 due to some advise to pump lower than the recommended spec, thus my old tyres suffered the same fate like this, thus there must be my fault of doing it wrong. Lately I am pumping at 220/230 again when others commented that the car seems to have not enuff air. Asking around, many ppl advised that tyres need to change at the 2-3 years period, but I am not satisfied with the answer due to mine having low mileage (the older tires have almost 35k km in 3 years, so maybe its understandable that its worn out and i never rotate it before). Thus i posted here to ask for more advise. Having little or no knowledge on tyres is really scary, scared of tyres blown and other horror stories. I did not rotate this tyre cos usually ppl advise to only rotate above 10k km. |

QUOTE(zeng @ Aug 28 2019, 10:04 AM) That's underinflation, and very dangerous at prolonged high speed/distance traveling as tyre surely gets hot faster .... leading to tyre burst whilst in motion. Thanks for the infos, i guess i can call you sifu. Yes its a common myth to change tyres every 2-3 years. I know some even change after 2 years. Most of the time when i asked outsiders for advise, i usually got the answer that tyres are not that expensive, around RM500-RM600 for 4 tyres, and they see no reason not to change every 2-3 years and i should not be stingy. That's a common myth spreading around. Tyre manufacturer recommends tyre replacement only when tyre tread is 1.6 mm or 10 years post production in normal use. My XM2 pair was replaced at about 115,000 km usage when tread depth was 2 mm , the tyre age was around 7 years. Currently another pair of XM2 is at about 60000 km usage/tyre age about 4 over years all running at 300 kph (44 psi) where manual says Front 31 psi Rear 35 psi... ..... still in use with about 3-4 mm tread depth.Won't change them until 1.6 mm or so tread depth. I stopped rotating tyres a long long time ago, like some 10-15 years. Bitog on tyre pressure. So from the link u shared, i should pump slightly higher than recommended psi, correct? As the front tyres need to support engine, i notice that the tyres tend to sink slightly even after pumping air into it. |

QUOTE(Ciypher @ Aug 31 2019, 08:53 AM) Strongly agree with this. Its better to overinflate(reasonable) than underinflate. A lot of folks always associate tyre burst due to overinflation. My bad due to listening to an advise of an elder user to pump lower. It always bug me cos my front tyres sink abit after pumping. Its only recent months that i pump to the specification. The higher pressure also works to your advantage in case where tyre pressure can't be checked weekly. Cheers... |

QUOTE(littlegamer @ Sep 3 2019, 12:32 PM) Is it Michellen xm2? Looks like it. If yes, common issue, I ban xm2 long time ago. Some say still can use but I rather not risk. Sorry Bro. Its just a humble Silverstone Powerbliz. I believe its my problem, not the tyres because my previous one Conti CC5 also have similar problem. |

QUOTE(watabakiu @ Oct 5 2019, 11:51 AM) dun mind me bashing you, but you took advise to lower psi (btw who recommend this and what reasons?) but isn't ok with tyres within 2-3years still okay to use? Hi i just saw your msg. Well i got the advise from some old driver, the reason is to avoid over inflate the tyres, resulting in bursting. Anyway diff people have diff opinions though, this old driver might change his tyres very often, so he does not have my problem. Recently I asked another friend and he said best to change every year regardless of the mileage (which he did to his car). Like I stated earlier, I can afford to change tyres even every year (RM500-600 for 4 brand new tyres) but I am more interested to know the cause of it. It's like changing engine oil, i do know some people that still change every 6 months without giving any thoughts about whether it is needed or not; they just know that engine oil is not expensive and new oil should be good for the car.from what others have mentioned, tyres look okay. inflate as recommended and rotate Anyway from the comments here by helpful forumers, i had weighted all the opinions and i had decided to keep using for longer period before changing to a new one, not because i am stingy, but because my tyres can still be used. |

QUOTE(thxxht @ Oct 21 2019, 03:59 PM) seem like the tyre did not have enough pressure? and traffic jam on hot weather? why does the treads look like they are melted and deformed? Yeah, i suspect that it has not enough air inside it. Furthermore my car is parked 24/7 outside the main road without any shelter. The back tyres are extremely perfect though. |
