I just googled a bit and apparently there are few 5G phones that are already available albeit in other markets. One of the phones which i am targeting is the Huawei Mate 20X 5G which surprisingly is in the list but also surprisingly and unfortunately comes with a downgraded battery of 4200 mAh instead of 5000 mAh in the current 20X 4G version. https://www.techradar.com/sg/news/5g-phones...first-5g-phonesAny idea when will 5G take off here in Malaysia? End of next year possible? This post has been edited by ryder_78: Aug 25 2019, 11:05 AM

Long way I presume is about 2 years time or less because I read that Maxis has already started 5G testing earlier this year while they plan to launch by 2021. Just thought if anyone working with Maxis may provide some advance insider news or information on the latest development. https://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...egins-5g-trials https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/maxi...nds-lead-market

iinm, to use 5G, the existing 4G devices has to be completely change, and since 5G has a very narrow coverage, it also means they have to install in more quantity compare to 4G .... so I doubt 5G can come to Malaysia in 2 years time.

Although 5G equipped phones is completely new, it will still support 4G network. Just like the current 4G phones which still support 3G or 2G whenever there is weak coverage whereby the 4G network will automatically switch or downgrade to 3G/2G. It is the same with 5G. Hence, even though there may be a lot of work to install the infrastructure for 5G, it does not mean that the service provider (Maxis) will delay the implementation. It's just that the installation will be progressive as more 5G stations are set up progressively. You cannot expect Maxis to complete all the installation of the infrastructure all over Malaysia before they launch 5G right? It may take up to 5 years if not more to install 5G network everywhere around Malaysia. They will do it in phases, most likely in the KL city centre first or perhaps few batches in major cities. Initially 4G network when newly launched also has little coverage but the stations will be upgraded/increased progressively to extend the coverage. It is the same with 5G. In the event the coverage is weak, the network can always downgrade to the existing 4G since there will still be support. Maxis has already announced to implement 5G in 2021 and who knows they might launch it earlier by end of 2020 if the testing has been successfully carried out? That if they can get some of the 5G phones ready in time. It would be interesting to know how much they will charge for the 5G phones, whether they will cost a premium.
