The news was rather unexpectedly announced on the official Final Fantasy Twitter page along with an all-new trailer. The Twitter announcement also confirms that pre-orders are now open and links to a page with information on where to do so: the Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, and Steam. Conspicuously enough, there's no mention of the Nintendo eShop or Switch release anywhere on the page at the time of this writing, so here's hoping we can pre-order it on the Switch soon.

Final Fantasy 8 joins a growing catalog of remastered Final Fantasy games to be and to have been released on PC and consoles. After a long delay, Final Fantasy X/X-2 were released on Switch and Xbox One this past April, and of course there's the most highly-anticipated full-fledged remake of Final Fantasy 7 coming next March.

Who doesn’t love it when developers and publishers laugh at their own work? The Final Fantasy official Twitter account has done exactly that with a tweet that both assures Final Fantasy VIII fans that the upcoming remaster is a legit remaster and dredges up a classic meme that pokes fun at FFVIII’s graphics.

It’s the best of both worlds, wrapped into one tweet that consists of a video and three emoticons.


The original meme is the exact same, albeit not in a gif or video form. It mocks Rinoa telling Squall that he’s the hottest guy around by zooming into his heavily pixelated face. Even though it’s been some time, the meme is still rather giggle-worthy. (It’s as funny as it was when Final Fantasy VII released and we all screamed the graphics would never be any better than this.)

So hey, at least we can expect the graphics to be greatly improved, yes? At least for this scene, anyway.

Even with that assurance, we still do not have a definitive release date for the game. All we know is that Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in 2019. Of course, if you absolutely cannot wait, you can replay FFVIII in all its pixelated glory now as a PSOne Classic via the PSP, Vita, or PS3. Unfortunately, it is not part of the PS Classic console. (But, Final Fantasy VII is!)

Which remastered Final Fantasy game are you hoping for next? I know that Final Fantasy VI is high on most people’s lists. I would like a port, not a remaster, but a direct port of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. I know I’ll have to keep holding my breath for that one to show up.

The Remaster won't do. This game needs remake. This battle is boring with repeated long cutscene.

The Final Fantasy III got remake. Not even popular like FFVII.
This game got same features as older one on Steam, booster speed, no random encounter etc.. Only upgraded graphic only..

biggest problem with ff8 is it's gay lvling system.
For newcomers who thought that lvling in ff8 is surprisingly damn easy will find themselves hit a wall when they tries to acquire GF at lv 60 above lol.. Especially diabolos.

I bought the game actually. I bought it because i'm a FF fan. Not really hardcore but my game started with FF series at ff7 ends at ff14 excluding FF12 with the stupid mouse look kid. The remastered only emphasized on remastering the character's look . Everything else still stays pixelated. Well the CGI did some good remastering though.

i thought they focused on the background?
