Summary I have only driven the car around tight slower corners on flat ground, but from the launch control runs I can tell this is unmistakably a Porsche. It is packaged to rival the forthcoming Merc EQS and Audi E-Tron GT, and show hot Tesla drivers that high performance is way more than a one shot deal. The Taycan appears to be an incredible package that is priced to tempt existing or would-be Tesla owners into a legacy manufacturer who is clearly taking EVs very seriously. The Taycan isn’t the start – that was the 919, the 918 and their Formula-E team – but within 18 months I believe it will help to change perceptions of what an EV is and how it can fit into the world of hardcore car enthusiasts, as well as hyper milers. I want to thank Porsche for offering myself and Fully Charged this special exclusive drive. There is a lot of arrogance in the car media world, and a few noses may have been put out of joint with this video, but Porsche are a progressive company, and I like to think that this channel that Robert Llewellyn has created is exactly that. We are small, but we are powerful. I went away from Stuttgart trying to work out if I could afford a base model single motor RWD Taycan by the time such a car comes to market. All that’s left to say is this: “I can tell you I don’t have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for certain other journalists. If you let me keep the Taycan that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you.”. … Only joking. https://fullycharged.show/blog/porsche-tayc...rged-exclusive/ babisotong liked this post

QUOTE(not timid n slow @ Mar 1 2020, 11:10 AM) Yes, Taycan can use existing Type-2 chargers, such as the ones at Sunway Pyramid, Genting Premium Outlets, ChargEV ones. As a matter of fact, the Taycan has Type-2 charging ports on both sides of the car! |

I've been informed that the Taycan has received 40 booking to date.
Which is a good show of support for the EV product. On another note too bad that the mini brand only brought in 25 mini electric car which has all taken up. Need to wait for the second batch afterwords I suppose. Anyways positive support for EV in this second wave of EV in Malaysia. |

Reports are coming out stating that although the Taycan is capable of Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, they are sending out letter to the owners requesting them to send the car to the workshop to update their software.
Details of why this is happening is not clear. But one thing is for sure. Future cars especially for EV, needs software to be the core competency for car manufacturers. The same issue happened to VW with its ID.3 where they had to manually update the cars before shipping them out to the dealership. OTA capability as in a computer ensures that the product is continuously improved to solve any issues remotely. (Attached is the Taycan owners manual which states the OTA capability at page 174) Attached File(s) 2020_Porsche_Taycan_Drivers_Owners_Manual.pdf ( 5.15mb ) Number of downloads: 291 |

Charging the EV is an integral part of owning an electric car.
Understanding how your car charges and also the different types of charges available is good to understand before owning one or before taking a trip from KL to Penang. Great to see that Porsche is publishing videos to explain it better to consumers. |

So the first delivery of Taycan in Malaysia is currently underway.
Porsche is currently prepping the car to be handed over to their loving owners. A local EVSE company will come over to install your home charging point for the car. As mentioned before Porsche will install a home energy monitor for owners to keep an eye on electricity consumption, charging, etc. Credit to the people of MyEVOC for the info. |

Its great seeing all these new Taycan owners learning about the effects of different charging speeds and state of charge, charging curves', EV power consumption and regen brakes, route planning form KL to Penang and back.
Some are already itching to have long trips once the interstate travel ban is lifted. |

there are stock ready car with limited colors or else have to wait june-august for customization apparently, they need to survey if your house can install charging point at your house first before letting you to purchase. |

There is a lot of misinformation here in Lowyat, FB, Twitter etc about charging an EV on a road trip.
For all the level headed people who wants a factual and real explanation about charging an EV this is it. The video is a bit long but the explanation is on point. With that in mind anyone can travel with an EV from JB to KL and even to Penang smoothly. |

Porsche’s Electric Taycan Sales on Course to Eclipse Iconic 911
By Christoph Rauwald 16 April 2021, 7:35 pm MYT https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/202...ipse-iconic-911 Porsche buyers are flocking in droves to the brand’s Taycan sedan, with sales of the all-electric model almost matching those of the iconic 911 sports car. Porsche delivered 9,072 Taycans during the first quarter, trailing the 911 by 61 units, the brand owned by Volkswagen AG said Friday in a statement. The manufacturer unveiled its first purely battery-powered model that’s competing for customers with Tesla Inc.’s Model S in 2019. “Established models have supported this excellent result along with the latest additions to our product range, above all the new model variants of the all-electric Taycan,” Porsche sales chief Detlev von Platen said of the brand’s 36% first-quarter surge. “We can look back on a very positive start to the year.” The Taycan, which Porsche recently flanked with a more spacious version, is a litmus test for the carmaker’s costly shift to electric vehicles. Boosting EV sales with Porsche will be key to maintaining healthy margins as the division is VW group’s biggest profit contributor by far. Porsche’s total global deliveries rose to 71,986 vehicles in the first quarter, driven mainly by demand in China, its largest market. The compact Macan SUV was the brand’s best-selling model, ahead of the larger Cayenne. Porsche will launch a battery-powered version of the Macan next year that’s underpinned by a new platform for upscale electric cars co-developed with sister brand Audi. Porsche remains optimistic about business prospects this year even as a global shortage of semiconductor parts disrupts production plans across the industry. Order books “continue to develop very well,” Von Platen said. |

QUOTE(McFD2R @ Apr 19 2021, 12:06 PM) Curious, what is this cost relative to? Estimated TNB consumption? Or is this at one of the Charging Stations, and that is the amount to pay after charging? This is the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect which is installed at the owner's house. This mobile charger can be used at the specified type of electrical outlet.
Porsche_Mobile_Charger_Connect___Operating_Manual_.pdf ( 5.87mb )
Number of downloads: 8The owner I think has set the price at around 57.3 sen/kWh if you divide RM49.63 with 86.6 you would get 57.3 sen/kWh TNB tariff for domestic consumer starts at 21.8 sen/kWh to 57.1 sen/kWh The actual TNB bill would depend on the owner's monthly home electricity consumption. VW Group indicated that the 4 main value drivers are
1. BEV platform 2. Software 3. Battery/Energy/Charging 4. Mobility Platform I see this as the 4 main core competency for the automotive sector as they move towards EV. Case in point for software, Porsche Taycan owners have noted several improvements after the latest software update to name a few 1. Energy consumption improved from 27kw/100km to 23kw/100km 2. Better 360 camera images 3. Apple car play more stable 4. Better electronic suspension feel 5. Smoother throttle response This shows the EV platform actually can be easily improved even after the car has been delivered to the customer. |

QUOTE(Lone Wolf X @ Jun 24 2021, 08:54 AM) https://www.porsche.com/pap/_malaysia_/mode.../taycan-models/ Oh didn't know Porsche had this range estimator functionAs per Porsche website with higher temperature you get extra range.... but I digress, this car has an excellent range period. Yeah with the range is definitely good. Still remembered few years back when the Nissan Leaf launched and my dad took it home for a couple days, 160km was already more than enough for a weekend family outing. |

Porsche is planning to recall its Taycan EV around the world over a software issue that can cause a sudden power loss, Bloomberg has reported. The action follows an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) started in May following reports of cars switching to emergency mode. There have been no reports of accidents or injuries, according to sources familiar with the situation.
The NHTSA identified nine complaints of sudden power loss, according to a filing uncovered by Automotive News in May. The problem, which affects model year 2020-2021 vehicles, reportedly stems from the auxiliary 12-volt battery and not the 800-volt main battery that powers the car. Porsche's owners at Volkswagen also received a letter requesting further information on the Audi e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT "to gather information in support of ODI’s comparative analysis of peer vehicles" of the Taycan. (Audi's electric sedan uses a similar electric powertrain to the Taycan.) According to the complaints from May, "a loss of charge in the 12V battery may deactivate the entire electrical system and prevent the vehicle from operation." Loss of power reportedly occurred with no warning or error messages, and six complaints said the vehicle could not be restarted. "We are already underway in addressing this issue and look forward to answering the NHTSA's questions and quickly resolving the underlying issue, should one be confirmed," a Porsche spokesperson told Road & Track at the time. The recall is a first for the Taycan, Porsche's debut all-electric car. Sales in the first quarter of 2021 nearly matched the company's iconic 911 and the EV is a key part of Porsche's fledgling subscription service. Porsche wouldn't be the only EV maker with recall issues — rival Tesla recently recalled nearly 300,000 Model 3 and Model Y EVs delivered in China over the Autopilot assisted driving feature. I hope Porsche can roll out an OTA update to fix this issue. |

Nice, this is much in line with most of the feedback I get on the waiting time for the Taycan.
I guess it gives enough time for you to plan for that first long road trip! QUOTE(furuku89 @ May 14 2023, 03:34 PM) Just sharing the waiting procedure… April 2022, Paid the ev charging home checked. Most likely JP spec, which comes with Chademo. Good luck finding charging point as most of CPO uses CCS2. There's still Type 2, but that will be a nightmare to deal with when doing long distance traveling. Xccess liked this post

QUOTE(Xccess @ Jan 8 2024, 08:47 PM) But if you're open to saving hundreds of thousand of Ringgit, can check out UK unit. Should be around 430-450k for 4s. (JP set selling 350k-380k) Still cheaper than official approved Porsche Malaysia unit. Xccess liked this post

My next 2 P cars when my existing 2 P cars are due for renewal will likely be an e-Macan Turbo and the new Taycan Turbo, not GT. Too hardcore for me.
