I occasionally run PC games at 1440p on my old acer 1080p 60hz monitor. Honestly, I like how my games look at 1440p instead of 1080p natively on my monitor. Thinking of setting my monitor to run everything 1440p. What is the long term effects on my hardware?

How do you even run 1440p program on 1080p screen? Windowed? Probably the texture is rendered for 1440p but not the polygons.

What you experiencing is pixels compression.

custom resolution setting in nvidia app.

pixel compression eh?
SotTR looks better running 1440p than native 1080p.

still, will it hurt the hardware if used constantly?

it wwont hurt in any way.
AMD and Nvidia has this technollogy for awhile already.
it's called virtual super resolution for AMD
nvidia is Dynamic super resolution.
once enabled you can change the ingame resolution up to 4, 1440p to 2880p.
if your pc can take it of course.

it's like full screen anti aliasing on steroid.
