Hi sifus, need help with my internet connection.

I just realized my wifi connection on my mobile devices/laptop are never on their full potential speed which is 500mbps, which i can achieve by plugging in ethernet cable.

Is this normal? is there a way to achieve higher speed?

Connect to 5ghz band and you must very2 close to the router to get full speed assume your laptop/hp wifi is supported the speed..

Broadcast you wifi with 5Ghz band, and your clients too must support to connect to 5Ghz wireless.

1. Your device must be using only 5GHz
2. Your 5GHz band must be running on 80MHz
3. Some old devices can't support 80MHz
4. Don't expect good things from cheap routers

not really, that only happens if you dont properly set the wireless setting and rely on 'auto' in the router.

Let say you configure the 2.4Ghz, set to 40Mhz on a less crowded band on the router. It should be running at 300Mbps, you can get 100Mbps no issue.

even my TIME provided TPlink ac1200 can give me ~100Mbps with my notebook wireless card only capable of doing wireless-N 150Mbps at 40Mhz band.

So the DIR 850L and the silver modem from TM will not support 300MBps WiFi?

Will I have to replace both modem and router to enjoy the full potential of the 500MBps plan.

I have another issue which is my wifi keep disconnecting itself and reconnecting after I installed the new firmware for the DIR850L.

Result from Ookla Speedtest

Wired connection on PC
493M download
107M upload

Wi-Fi 2.4Ghz on phone
72M download
60M upload

Wi-Fi 5Ghz turned off because I don't know if it is causing my phone to keep getting disconnected and reconnecting by itself.

just go to the advanced wireless setting and tweak it abit. enable that 5Ghz but for it only AC mode only. the channel width you test it yourself which give you best speed without losing signal strength. channel width as long as not the auto..
same goes to 2.4Ghz, set to 40Mhz and N only. channel pick other than 6..

I just assume you dont have the need the backward compatibility with wireless G laugh.gif
if at 2.4Ghz 40 you having disconnection issue due to signal strength, you have to use 20Mhz, but your max speed would be low.
In a perfect world with line of sight with the router, you can get 200~250Mbps on 2.4Ghz

btw, do you need that much speed on wifi? you have any buffering issue or something?

Wifi speed of 72M on 2.4Ghz is ok/normal.

Frequent disconnecting on 5Ghz could be due to your phone also. try your phone in your friend's router 5Ghz and see.

By the way, what is your 5Ghz SSID ?

Your 2.4Ghz speeds are ok as mentioned already

Note that to get good bandwidth out of 5GHz will require both a faster Wifi AP and also the correct 5GHz antenna configuration on the device as well. Many low end devices don't have the 2x2 antenna required for real world speeds higher than 100MBps at 5GHz. You might need a new phone biggrin.gif

hi,

You need to change the wireless router in order to support 500Mbps. Since the service provider (ISP) upgrade the current bandwidth to 500Mbps they failed to upgrade the wireless router. You have 2 option available :

1. Renew the contract to get new modem/router
2. Buy the wireless router/modem. (RM235-300)

Choices are yours smile.gif

That's the maximum speed you get on 2.4GHz
You want to get full 500Mb/s, you need to be on 5GHz that's running on 80MHz bandwidth
