Went to a VW dealer to source for new car, salesperson suggest me to take Vento/Polo due to loan approval rate higher (age and income concern).
Thinking about getting Vento 1.2 TSI since it comes with a turbo engine and DSG, much more fun car to drive than Polo, which only offers 1.6 NA engine and conventional 6spd automatic

any vento 1.2tsi owner here can give your thoughts?

My concerns:

1)The DSG gearbox. For the past few years a lot people having issues with the DSG, is it resolved now?

2)Service/Maintenance. So far any owner encounter any problem that requires the car to go in workshop other than regular oil change and servicing?

3)Fuel consumption. How much km can u achieve on full tank ron97? Im civilized driver when mild/heavy traffic but if road kosong i sometime will heavy foot whistling.gif

Salesperson also giving out discount 10k+, OTR price around 70-80k same vios and city. very tempting rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Are you buying the car because it’s cheaper than Vios/City and easy to get loan, or are you getting it because you like it?

VW is a good car but as per other Contis it needs more TLC and caring. But since it’s new you shouldn’t be too worried

Servicing cost wise, it’s not too bad at about 500-1000 every 15,000 kms (or yearly)

Only the major service at 60,000 kms is 2.5k so you’d better be saving up for that

Have you test driven it?
What do you like about it that sets it apart from Vios/City? If only the badge, then better not

As a Vento 1.2 owner for a year +, no issues so far on the mechanical side. I am same as you, heavy traffic + heavy footed haha tongue.gif

Pros,
1. Handling
2. Performance (equivalent to Japanese 1.8/even 2.0)
3. Get to join cars enthusiast/driving group
4. Hands on DIY experience if you're a mod guy
5. Service charges are actually similar or cheaper than Japanese.
6. Entry to Conti's car category

Cons,
1. Not as up-to-date equipped.
2. Space is smaller than Vios/City (but good enough)
3. Not as comfy as Japanese as the suspension is stiffer (for the handling)

Overall, it's a good car with its own charm, you'll get to smoke a lot of cars on the road, but not as comfy.
It's really depending on what you wants biggrin.gif

agreed, DSG is only 1 of it.
Try searching on those older Polo 1.2 TSI, what timing-chain tensioner broken lar, water pump early failure lar, coil pack failure lar, aircond compressor failure lar etc.
IMO Vento 1.2 TSI still relatively new "2 years" max on Malaysia road so need to look for those older Polo 1.2 TSI issues for comparison purpose.

I'm driving 1.6NA variant, the 4th service which is major 60,000km would costs around RM2.6k. Minor service is only change engine oil and oil filter already costs RM450. 1.2TSI Vento on the other hand have much cheaper maintenance due to dry-clutch DSG without needs of replacing ATF, I think SC no change DSG oil unless you request or change outside.

Buying the car because of both actually, test drive already the ride and handling vios and city really cannot compare, especially when high speed, and the door closing sound really gets me since it’s my first time in conti car driver seat hehe

maintenance cost if follow ur numbers my wallet will be fine, more expensive than japan car but for the fun I will get I think worth it la.

But conti car change oil at 15,000km one ah? Because I used to local car change at 5-7k ohmy.gif

i can get by the cons lah, entertainment wise the new vento got apple carplay so will be sufficient already, speaker also nice, space is quite good for me even for rear passenger, Japanese car have softer suspension, feel not stable and not connected to the road.

Consider this week booking if mechanical no major problem like u said biggrin.gif

Past issue with DSG I thought solved already? Want to know any new VW owner experience with revised dsg

As for driving experience, same segment car like city vios memang kalah in my opinion, but persona and Mazda 2 can compare

Mazda2 is more fun to chuck around corners than Polo and even though it is NA with less power, the throttle response is better than 1.2TSI. Try it for yourself, Jalan -> brake to slow down -> then quickly get on the throttle again. You'll see the difference in engine response there.

The 1.6 has a conventional 6 speed auto with tiptronic controls (+ and -) on the shifter. Generally in D it feels very sluggish, you need to shift in S or use the tiptronic mode to make the most out of the engine.

Never driven the vento 1.2 TSI before but we have a 1.4TSI jetta at home and it's quite a fun car to be driven. Dated interior it is but the power and snappy DSG is quite fun. 0-100km/h in 8.1 seconds (timed myself) was sufficient for daily drive although not quick.

Never had any mechatronic issue for the past 4 + years, although it has very low mileage clocked, 30+k..

Had the ABS speed sensor replaced once about 2 years ago, dealing with SC in Glenmarie was alright. Maintenance wise I'd say comparable to Japanese because it needs only one servicing a year compared to two for Japanese so it works out to be about the same price.

But just hope it doesn't break down after the 5 year warranty.

All in all, the brand is a bit underrated in Malaysia, because in most parts of the world you'd see this car everywhere. Folks wagen.

Tbh 8.1 secs 0-100 sprint is pretty fast, considering most cars in Malaysia struggle to even break 10 seconds

It's Aisin 09G 6 speed automatic with + - tiptronic.

The feels is actually underpowered, coz of sluggish/lazy gearbox. I always uses S sports mode + fully throttled when prepare to overtakes. Throttle delay is very obvious, when step on pedal feels the delay to engage engine rev is worse than my gen2.

Why not mazda2 sedan? its more comfortable with adequate power plus fun. I can say their fuel efficiency is quite good as well.

1.4TSI is a different beast, even better if it's the older twincharged. I test drive both the twincharged Jetta and the Vento TSI back-to-back, the driving experience on the Jetta is a whole other league.

I later test drove the turbocharged Jetta too, it is not linear or responsive as the twincharged, but still better then the 1.2 TSI by miles.

IKR, I thought my Campro throttle lag is bad, the lag in the 1.6 Polo is just as bad if not worse lol

1.2tsi need to rev up to 2k+ rpm for the boost kick in. and redline all the long only you can feel the power.
below than that is just normal 1.2car..
if you want performance then go higher cc car, thats how it works.
no doubt VW really build their car very very comfort.
NVH is the tiptop compare to japanese and bmw (the 3 series)

Even new myvi has better functions than this car. You’re talking about a car that DOESNT EVEN HAVE auto fold mirror, reverse camera, sharkfin antenna, touchscreen, side signal on mirror
