The shots taken by your 50mm F1.8, what was the F-stop setting? Did you set it to full 1.8? I see the first picture to be a little bit blur, maybe change setting to F3.2. I faced the same problem before, after switching to F3.2, the photos were much sharper. smile.gif

Unless really necessary, do not use a full aperture during outdoor photography, especially for the EF50mm F1.8 II. For best results, use F2.2 and above.

Even with other lenses as well? For example, the standard 18-55mm kit lens? I heard recommended "sweet spot" for the 18-55mm kit lens is about F7 - F8

The pictures now are much sharper and more emphasis on the model. The ones with the trees are good. However, the last two has too much background distraction especially the metal post.

Hi, mind telling us this location you're at when you took those shots?

Are you using a tripod? Try to use a narrower aperture and a longer shutter speed. Ever tried using a black card placed in front of your lens?

I heard that the fireworks last 30 minutes. Only worry is that the smoke might get into the frame as well.

Anyway, the event is till the 2nd of Sept. Plenty of time to shoot and improve. smile.gif

Try to set shutter speed to between 4 to 6 seconds. Lower your ISO and use smaller aperture like f16 or f22. Like skarn said, be wary of the smoke from the fireworks and also the wind direction.

Lens flare on the first picture. If you have a CPL or ND filter during that time would have made the pictures even better.

They are nice nonetheless.

Yup, composition was nice but with the filters the pictures can turn out awesome. Besides just a normal ND, a graduated filter can also help heaps.

If not, get a tripod and go for a HDR image as your 400D should have the bracketing function.

How come....most pics OOF...?? hmm.gif Even a still object.....also OOF...for instance the in the wax house (Beckham)... some of the pics compo do not work at all, for me at least.....should attempt more different angles if you're not familiar....though by saying practise more is very common....but i'll like to add in more, practise correctly, use the correct method.....try and error is unavoidable but if keep on try and error and error....then there must be something wrong...
