KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 — Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park, Southeast Asia’s most anticipated theme park, will open its doors to the public on February 8, 2022.
As part of the theme park’s soft opening, Genting SkyWorlds is offering a 20 per cent discount from its published rates for bookings from February 8 to March 31, 2022.
In a statement today, Genting Malaysia Bhd head of business operations and strategies Lee Thiam Kit said the theme park, built with an investment of over US$800 million, is a game-changing themed attraction park that will put Malaysia and Pahang on the world tourism map.
“This theme park will contribute to the tourism sector and the economy with the creation of over a thousand jobs,” he said.
After purchasing tickets online, guests are encouraged to download the Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park mobile app, which is available for free on Google Play, Apple App Store and Huawei AppGallery.
Not only is the app a comprehensive guide to Genting SkyWorlds, with real-time information, it also enables guests to navigate and experience the park virtually prior to arrival, giving a head-start on what to do, where to go and how to get there.
Among other features, guests will be able to check wait times for rides, attractions and shows; receive promotional offers and discount vouchers; discover dining, shopping, games, and its advanced Photo+ service.
Meanwhile, Resorts World Genting vice president, head of theme park operations Greg Pearn said the app, a first for the Southeast Asian region, is also integrated with the park’s Virtual Queue (VQ) technology, an intelligent feature which will reduce long waits in physical lines, giving guests more freedom to do what they want and at a time they choose.
The VQ also allows guests to create boarding groups for multiple ticket holders, view recommended itineraries based on personal preferences, and receive real-time alerts for attraction reservations, availability, and must-see entertainment
“Opening a theme park during the pandemic has been a challenge, and whilst every effort has been made to ensure our full offerings are available, a small selection of attractions require a little more time to be completed, something the team is working hard to achieve,” he said.
The group said during its soft opening period, there will be complimentary VQ and Photo+ access available where their guests can download and share unlimited digital photo content with a discount rate via their website and mobile app. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 — The wait is almost over as Resorts World Genting’s (RWG) movie-inspired theme park Genting SkyWorlds, is set to welcome visitors in the second quarter of 2021.
RWG's head of business operations and strategy Lee Thiam Kit said that the group is committed to opening the park this year despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and movement control order (MCO).
Lee added that RWG has invested US$800 million (RM3.2 billion) into the park since its conception and believes it will be a valuable asset to the Malaysian economy and tourism industry.
“We’re committed to this park and we will see to it that it opens, barring unforeseen circumstances.
“Going forward, when we open, there will be jobs created and the park will add economic activity directly and indirectly as well as a boost to tourism in Malaysian and Pahang,” said Lee in a virtual press conference today.
Guests at Genting SkyWorlds will get to immerse themselves in 7 movie and adventure-inspired worlds, namely
Rio, Ice Age, Epic, Robots,
Independence Day, Night at the Museum, Planet of the Apes
The outdoor park spans a whopping 26 acres with something for everyone amongst its 26 rides and attractions, ranging from thrilling roller coasters to exciting water rides.
RWG’s head of theme parks Gregory Pearn said the park will also include rides that will be the first of its kind in the world and that details on these attractions will be unveiled closer to the opening date.
Standing in long queues is set to be a thing of the past as Genting SkyWorlds has partnered with Alibaba to utilise virtual queue technology so guests can pre-book their spot on rides and attractions.
Visitors will also be spoilt for choice with a range of unique food and beverage options that will further enhance their theme park experience.
Construction on the park is in its final stages.
Genting SkyWorlds, formerly known as 20th Century Fox World, will feature rides and attractions themed around films and franchises from 20th Century Studios.
This includes Ice Age, Night at the Museum, and Planet of the Apes.

Pearn noted that these worlds will be accompanied by original intellectual properties (IPs) from Genting as well.
“We do have some (20th Century Studios) IPs in the park such as Rio and Ice Age which are fantastic IPs to have.
“We are also complementing these with our own homegrown IPs and in the long-term, the plan is to introduce other IPs to the park as well.
“Having Genting SkyWorlds as the hero of the product gives us the chance to be more creative with the proposition and allows us more freedom with what we want to introduce at a later stage,” said Pearn.

Due to the closure of international borders, RWG executive vice president of leisure and hospitality Datuk Edward Arthur Holloway said the plan is to focus on the local market for the next 6 months to 1 year before targeting foreign visitors.
Pearn added that Genting SkyWorlds will reveal more about its star attractions and other details such as ticket prices in the coming months.
Operations at Resorts World Genting have resumed effective 16 February following a temporary closure on 22 January due to the re-imposition of the Movement Control Order (MCO). 24 days close!!!!

The acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney took place on March 20, 2019.
Among other key assets, the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney included the 20th Century Fox film and television studios, U.S. cable/satellite channels such as FX, Fox Networks Group, a 73% stake in National Geographic Partners, Indian television broadcaster Star India, and a 30% stake in Hulu.

However, strict SOPs are still in place with shorter operating hours, limited availability or closure of certain facilities/attractions. Meanwhile, operations in the UK remain shut.
As the MCO 2.0 has partly affected businesses during the peak period (i.e. Lunar New Year holiday), we have earlier reduced our FY21F earnings forecast by 14%. Under the expectation that the travel and tourism industry is on the road to recovery following news of vaccine rollouts, we believe the worst is over for GENM.
Earnings are only expected to recover slowly as we reckon the impact of economic fallout on consumer sentiment will continue to affect spending on non essential and discretionary activities in Malaysia.
Although the outdoor theme park is targeted to open by mid-year, it is only expected to accommodate some 20,000 tourists, which is still far from its initial target of 3m visitors a year.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 22): Genting Malaysia Bhd (GENM) is targeting to open its outdoor theme park — which will be named "Genting SkyWorlds" — in the second quarter of 2021 (2Q21).
While "20th Century Fox" has been dropped from the name from its multibillion-ringgit outdoor theme park, the new outdoor theme park will still feature movies from 20th Century Fox as well as other unnamed "international class" movie-themed attractions, GENM chief financial officer Koh Poy Yong told shareholders at the group's 40th annual general meeting that was conducted virtually in compliance with Covid-19-related social-distancing measures.
In reply to questions sent by the Minority Shareholder Watchdog Group (MSWG) on why the outdoor theme park's opening was being delayed by one year, Koh said the movement control order that began on March 18 resulted in a temporary halt in construction works.
There were also travel restrictions on foreign consultants and specialists entering Malaysia to complete the outdoor theme park, she explained, but added that construction works had since been allowed to resume.
The 2Q21 targeted opening date for the outdoor theme park is slightly earlier than the 3Q21 the group has recently guided analysts.
In July 2019, GENM told Bursa Malaysia that it had resolved its dispute with 20th Century Fox Film Corp, Fox Entertainment Group LLC, Twenty-First Century Fox Inc and Walt Disney Company over the development of its outdoor theme park.
The settlement reached grants GENM a licence to use certain intellectual properties of Fox.
At the time, GENM said its outdoor theme park would utilise both Fox and non-Fox intellectual properties, without providing specifics.
GENM also said the outdoor theme park would be renamed.

KUALA LUMPUR: After a major fall-out last year, Genting Malaysia Bhd’s much-delayed outdoor theme park is back on track and potentially even improved as not only will it feature some of the popular characters from 21st Century Fox, but possibly even a number ofMarvel’s[/SIZE=14] — another Disney-owned brand.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday Genting Malaysia said it had arrived at a settlement with
Fox Entertainment Group LLC, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp, FoxNext LLC, Twentieth Century Fox Inc (20th Century Fox) and [SIZE=14]Walt Disney Co (Disney)
over the outdoor theme park.
“Genting Malaysia is currently updating its development and construction plans to complete the outdoor theme park utilising both Fox and non-Fox intellectual properties. The outdoor theme park shall also be renamed” said the group in the filing.
Recently, it is understood that three parties, including Marvel and US-based theme park brand Six Flags, approached Genting Malaysia to take over the spot vacated by 21st Century Fox — prompting market speculation of Marvel’s involvement in the theme park.
Moreover, Marvel had shuttered its theme park in Thailand on Jan 29 some seven months after its opening on June 29, last year because of liquidity problems and as operations were not going according to plan.
Marvel’s local partner Demeter Corp PCL, which owned 37.5% of the Marvel Experience Thailand, said in a filing with the Stock Exchange of Thailand that a majority of its shareholders had voted to shut the park.
As at the time of writing, Marvel and Six Flags had yet to reply to queries by The Edge Financial Daily sent on July 14, 2019.
As part of the settlement announced by Genting, all parties in the dispute have agreed to fully resolve their disputes and dismiss all claims between one another, pending legal action in the US District Court for the California Central District.
Genting Malaysia, Fox and Disney signed a restated memorandum of agreement yesterday.
Genting Malaysia said the group is not expecting the settlement to have any material effect on its earnings, net assets and gearing for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2019.
The settlement comes some 9 months after Genting Malaysia launched its suit against Fox and Disney.
On Wednesday, both Genting Malaysia and parent company Genting Bhd saw active trade following reports that the outdoor theme park would be opened sooner than its initial target of first quarter 2021.
In a client note, Maybank IB observed that Resorts World Genting had placed full-page job advertisements for its theme park in local newspapers for the last two weeks.[/SIZE=14]
At the same time, the bank upgraded Genting Malaysia to a “buy” with a higher target price of RM3.80 from RM3.40 previously.
Shares in Genting Malaysia closed 0.81% or three sen lower yesterday to RM3.67 valuing the company at RM21.79 billion, while its parent Genting closed 0.44% or three sen higher to RM6.90 for a market capitalisation of RM26.75 billion.
Genting Malaysia had sought more than US$1 billion in damages in its suit against Fox as the latter had terminated its participation in the theme park because Disney did not want to be associated with the gaming business.
The initial agreement to build the theme park in 2013, had come with the promise of intellectual property such as[SIZE=7]
However, this deal was done before Disney bought Fox on March 20, 2019.
