Is Nippon Weatherbond Solareflect a good product vs Dulux weathershield or Jotun exterior paint?
Its advertised with a 10yr warranty compared to Dulux 5yr.

https://www.nipponpaint.com.my/products/top...ond-Solareflect

https://www.dulux.com.my/en/products/dulux-...ior-wall-finish

https://www.jotun.com/my/en/b2c/products/ex...ield/index.aspx

Edit - The house was painted with ICI/Dulux over 20yrs ago, still holding up reasonably well. The painters were local Chinese and did a pro job which is probably why it still looks ok.

Nippon just marketing purposes only..
Don't actually last 10years . After year 5, somehow start peeling off...
So basically it's last 5 years only..

Also logically.. if really last 10year, how those manufacturer want to survive? I mean, u won't buy their products for at least 8years right since it's long lasting...

they are more or less the same, see which brand got the color you want, if you go for higher line products they will have those easy clean, anti fungus and anti fade characteristic

how you prepare the surface before you start painting is more important, i see a lot inexperienced DIYer dont want to spend time scraping off old paint and do proper patching, end up their paint will peel off in few years time if not in a month

Dulux and other good US brands now offer limited lifetime warranties on their exterior paint products.
Take a look at the Dulux Australia/UK websites. The Dulux Aus/UK paint might be a higher grade than the one sold in Malaysia because the price seems to be at least 2x pricier and they are also self priming which the Malaysian is not.

I found out that the Nippon warranty is pro-rated. Taking the solareflect product for instance, on year 6, the max warranty claim is 50%, year 7 40% and so on. I wasn't able to get the exact terms of Jota's warranty but googling gave an Indian document which also had a reducing sliding scale of warranty payouts starting from year 2 (90%), year 3 (80%).... So the Dulux warranty straight forward and roughly similar to its competitors with Nippon having the edge but not by much.

The reason for the very different product range in Australia/Canada compared to Malaysia is because the Dulux tradename in Australia/Canada is used by different company (PPG) while Dulux Malaysia/UK is under Akzo Nobel since 2009.

Edit- Dulux Indonesia which is also under Akzo has a 2 coat(no need basecoat) weathershield product - weathershield flash which is not sold in Malaysia, not sure why that is the case.
