MBA is only useful if its from a top business school. Most employers prefer US top business schools. But getting into these top business school is very difficult, as they normally require 4-5 years of good solid experience in a big firm (e.g. Fortune 100 company), and having undertaken high profile appointments. The reason for this is that MBA programs are for candidates to share their experiences and bring about new ideas, and of cos to network and build solid business relationships.
Yup. and it's the caliber of the students as well. Let's say you are Engineering head in a Manufacturing unit and you need skills to reorganize your department operational processes and structure in preparation for cost consolidation from a planned migration out of China to Vietnam. If your fellow MBA students are all fresh degree holders, they won't be in any position to contribute to group discussions on this matter.
